  • If your rear suspension is down or leaning on a BMW X5 2007-2013, this video may help you fix your car. It is common for BMW X5 from 2007 to 2013 to have leaky rear suspension airbags. A leaky air suspension causes the compressor to work much harder, creating a higher draw. The higher draw from the compressor wears it out and may blow the fuse, as seen in this video. Therefore, it is essential to watch the entire video; in addition to changing the air suspension compressor, you need to remove the fuse for the suspension computer and put it back in so that the car resets the ride height. Removing the fuse and putting it back in is a trick to reset the air compressor computer to raise your BMW X5 E70.
    Please feel free to ask me questions if you have this issue or any other car issue.

    I could really use your help , (2012 X5 E70) car was sagging in the rear which was causing the the compressor to short cycle (but never got an error message) , so I replaced both rear bags myself (Arnott Airbags) problem SOLVED , I had no issues for months. So today I got in the car and got a “level control system failure” on my iDrive after the compressor ran for about 3 min. The car currently sits SLIGHTLY lower in the rear than in the front but nothing like it was before I replaced the bags months prior . When I start the car the compressor does Run, but sounds more noisy than Usually. It’s very hard to tell if it’s pumping or not because the car is barley sagging. so I followed your video and and opened the fuse box in the trunk (10A fuse wasn’t broken) so I opened the the fuse box on the passenger side (40A fuse wasn’t broken) I haven’t checked the the relay yet , but if the relay was bad the compressor wouldn’t run at all right ? Also there is no hissing sounds coming from the car when its off. Could weather have a effect on the compressor? It’s currently been 30 degrees Fahrenheit in Maryland (for weeks) , when I’m home in Florida it’s almost never below 50 degrees.

      Hey Ty JuukzTv thanks for watching my video. Are you able to scan the system with a full system scan diagnostic tool to read the error code? If so please share updated diagnostics. If your fuse was broken the pump would not work intermittently, it would just cease to work.

      Funny cos I just commented about this on another video. When the car is started and the compressor pumps for a few minutes and fails with a warning message, it is the compressor. Generally it is the O-ring in the compressor is worn down and causing blow-by in the chamber. The system stops itself if it not building pressure properly. Rebuild kits are very cheap and easy to do yourself :)

    Hey great video ...i wanted to know where is the panaromic sunroof fuse located ... my panaromic sunroof got stuck out of no where and i think it might be the fuse..i have a bmw x5 2008 4.8i

    • @WheelsTips
      @WheelsTips  6 лет назад +4

      Hey Haris S thanks for watching my video. If you have a stuck panoramic sunroof and you think it is the fuses it is fuse F114 (5A0 and F117 20A in the rear distribution box on the right side of rear compartment and you have a 10 amp fuse F5 under the right side of dash fuse holder. I would keep in mind that often the sunroof needs adaptation so you may need to reset the top or your sun roof rails need adjustment, lubrication or replacement. Check to make sure you do not have anything lodged in the sunroof's path such as a twig. Please let me know what you found. Thanks for watching my video and for the great question. If you have a mechanic that you work with and trust, you should work with your mechanic. Personally I have seen most cars with leaking rear air suspension have some sort of sagging. Often times when replacing the air suspension both sides should be done in tandem. As I said in the beginning if you have a working relationship with your mechanic, work with them. Looking forward to an update, thanks a bunch.

    Hello Sir
    I have a 2016 bmw x5. I noticed right rear sagging. When I switched on it came to normal position. Then after 1 week same thing happened. I went to 3 few mechanics. They all are saying different things.. one said air suspension leak, other said some valve issue, another person said compressor issue.
    Can you please advise 🙏

    • @WheelsTips
      @WheelsTips  2 года назад +1

      Thanks a bunch for watching my video and taking the time to comment. Given you have been a couple places it maybe hard to pinpoint your issue, given it seems to effect only one side the airbag leaking is not a far shot, but this again depends on the physical diagnostics. You would physically have to check for leaks and would need a diagnostic tool to assist. Please share an update, thanks.

    Hi, I have the level control system failure light come on sometimes ever since I bought the car last year. I’ve never seen any sagging and have never felt any weirdness while driving. The light comes on after I hear a loud buzzing noise (I’m assuming it’s a compressor) stops working. However no signs of sagging. Help?

      @WheelsTips  Месяц назад

      Thanks a bunch for watching my video and taking the time to comment. Without scanning the car and seeing the fault it’s hard to make a determination on the fault. Based on the symptoms it could be a failing air compressor. If you choose to you can save money by getting the compressor rebuilt rather than replaced. Google search, suspension compressor rebuild kit BMW X5 E70. This will give you cheaper options than replacing, make sure to get a new relay when rebuilding. Please share an update, thanks.

    Thanks for the tip. Had similar prob where rear suspension will lower overnight. Once engine is on it will rise. Had both bags replaced however the problem still there. Obviously my compressor is working because it does pump it up. Could it be that it is not pumping enough air? Only one side will fall much lower than the other side.

      @@WheelsTips Thank you for the reply. It's all fixed now. I took it back to the garage and told them to have a good check on any potential leaks inc the new bags they put on as I doubted my compressor was bad since it did pump air. After a day without the car they called me to say that they took off the airlines from valve block side and replaced the 0 rings. This seemed to have done the trick. There must have been an air leak from the valve block which was ever so small. I am happy that it's sorted thanks to a lot advise from all you folks👍👍👍

    • @WheelsTips
      @WheelsTips  6 лет назад

      Hey Erick Kevin, thanks for watching my video. The situation is complicated because many things are at play in this system. I would need to know the code you get and or the symptoms if there are any, such as; does your suspension sag to one side, front, rear when the car is left over night or can you adjust your ride height? ALSO, did your mechanic try to clear the code and did code come right back ( which is possible)? Please help me narrow the details down, if you have them.

    • @WheelsTips
      @WheelsTips  6 лет назад

      Hey Erick Kevin, if you replaced the fuse and the pump did not activate than yes you have a bad pump along with other things. The pump went bad because you have a leak in the system, you would have to check the valve body for leaks and or your air struts for leaks. So in short yes you may need a pump AND you have a leak in the system.

      Hey Karlu Cariaga thanks for watching my video. It definitely sounds like you have an air suspension issue, I think you need a bit more than a visual inspection to start replacing parts, it is safest and best practices that you do proper diagnostics such as a full system scan, factory approved pressure and leak tests before replacing parts. Please do share how you end up repairing the issue, good luck, thanks.

    Hey, I replaced my air bags as they were on their way out and the compressor was often running. The compressor is still running but not as much, I scanned for codes using carly and the error code is 5fb5. According to carly it states; 'Compressor temperture does not fall when the compressor is not drive/ Misalignment active'

      Hey Dee Patel thanks for watching my video. In my opinion it is common for the compressor to malfunction after it overworking itself to compensate for the leaking airbag. In my experience I tested the compressor for output functions and when I replaced the compressor I always replaced the relay. You may also want to test the relay.
