Hi Everyone...Thank you for your comments! I actually did intend to play "straight" on the D.B. and swing the upbeats...I forgot to explain that as an option for phrasing.
Sherrie, your passion and enthusiasm are incredibly moving and inspirational. THANK YOU for what you do and who you are. I mean it. Another great and very useful lecture.
Sherrie, when I started drumming only five months ago I skipped quarter notes and when straight to sixteenths (and eighths). I didn’t realise the importance of quarters. Now I do so thank you a whole lot‼️✌️🌻
This is literally amazing this lesson is sooooo helpfull. I always threw thousants of notes in my solos but after this video I realized how to practise a solid solo wich just sound nice!!! Thanks to this chanel:;-)
There's some sort of like delay or something on the drums where each individual single hit sounds like a flam... also some reverb as well. Strange. Skip to 2:04 for the concept 4:35 for an actual playng example
Why is it that Sherrie is playing swung 8th notes when the figure starts on an upbeat, but straight when the figure starts on a downbeat? Is that intentional?
I love this! Please check your levels volume wise. I have everything CRANKED and its still low I am some what deaf from playing but NOT that deaf. The user can always turn down but NOT up.
I'm not so sure she was doing that. There was kind of an inherit "slap" in the room that gave it that flamming sound. In fact I found it a little distracting. If she were playing in a deader or dryer room I don't think it would have been so pronounced.
Maybe it's my computer, but I am having a hard time hearing the bass. (I know this is a drum tutorial, but I still think the bass needs to be a little bit louder in the mix.)
Tim Churchill I believe it’s just a stage custom set. Nothing crazy. Great players will sound great regardless of gear. This shell kit is probably only $650 or so. The snare is not expensive either. Her playing however is priceless.

You have a talent for speaking! It's as if you could see us when you spoke to the camera, very impressive
OMG... Sherrie is actually here on RUclips commenting? This is unreal. There is a God.
Thanks for the info Sherie!
I appreciate you mentioning me, I'm proud of you....Thank you. xo, Adam
This lady makes me smile
LOVE this, from one lady drummer to another...THANKS!
Favourite teacher of all time. So fun, concise and clear and no ego splashing all around the toms LOL!
These two ladies are absolutely killing it! Love this video!

I have a new favorite teacher! Very informative, talented, inspirational and LIKABLE!! Thank you!
Great stuff Sherrie! The filosophie behind the drum is just as important as the technique.
Philosophy?
Everything's flamming!
Sound issue from the room I think.
I really, really love this lady. Absolutely cool drummer and teacher.
Wonderful bassist
Great concept! Excellent lesson - thank you Sherrie!
This is great, Ive been on it all day.. Thankyou Sherrie..

Nice style. Got a great for jazz. I love that ride cymbal. What is it? I can see it is Sabian with 3 rivits but it has a nice pitch.
Excellent lesson. Drum sounds great too!

Someone left the lav on and the drum mic on at the same time....
Never mind that's the room reflections messing with the sound for some reason.
jazz drumming is my favorite drumming
Kameron Waddell i dont listen to jazz but i love playing it because of the laidback feel with solos and fills
Holy cow she studied with Nusbaum? That's awesome! And I love her lessons on here. So we'll explained and demonstrated
And again, someone making me wish I played like a girl! Well with work, perhaps I will!
What a performance! Love you gentlewomen!
Cool, love your work!!
PLEASE COULD YOU TELL ME WHAT KIT THAT IS SOUNDS LOVELY
Tks....many many tks - u are a great teacher....!!
So good

Crazy flamming with one hand. :)

Echo from the lav being faded out and the drum mic coming out, not fast enough though.
Great lesson!
Love this
very good. thanks
wow! THANK YOU
I prefer minimalist solos, and I've always looked up to drummers who perform that way. Much more musical!
Is there any way you could spare the details on recording this kit? it sounds amazing, im not sure if it's just due to jazz style or microphones used.
thats the way she plays the drums
That was beautiful. how would that look on a chart?
ear bro please. ear
+StompL7 I think it'd be in parentheses saying something like "dynamics?" But I well could be completely absurd as well. Likely the latter.
Mike Derderian exactly how she described it.
She swing pretty nice .......I like the bass player
Nice touch
great job.....
Maybe it's my computer, but I am having a hard time hearing the bass. (I know this is a drum tutorial, but I still think the bass needs to be a little bit louder in the mix.)
hello Sherrie what yamaha is that sounds lovely Tim

Great rhythm section! Are you available for hire? :D
I like Norico )
...every one of these I'm thinking OK I get it yeah... then I'm like holy sh*t it swings so hard... wtf is that!
Terrific!
when she says 'trading 8s' is that doing 8 bars soloing each?
Yes
you're pretty dope sherrie! ;)
What Yamaha kit is that? Yamaha Bop Kit?
Yamaha Stage Custom Bebop
Adam Nussbaum must have had a profound influence on her because her way of moving while playing time is very similar to Adams
After you posted, I watched and you're right she plays with the same movements. Good student and good teacher.....
And then again Adam was obviously very strongly influenced by Elvin!
How dyou do that flam with 1 hand??
The BoSS let the stroke bounce then choke up
@@samteague2342 Nope that's the lavalier mic being faded out not quick enough so there is a slight delay from it compared to the drum mic.
Genious!
I thought she was being rude @ 5:05 ?
Gretsch Drummer you thought that was her middle finger ? xD
Brianna Backman in the UK showing the back of the hand with those two fingers open is just like showing the middle finger
Gretsch Drummer I
How quickly they forgot once across the ocean :)
Gretsch Drummer
🥰😘Very good!
Sweet Jesus that snare drum
Jazz, it ain't Square, no music from Louisiana is...
A little rudimentary for what I'm doing, but very thorough, understandable, and wonderfully melodic.
That’s a lot of Elvin
Can’t hear the bass unfortunately... as a bass player myself (electric), I shed a tear... ;)
use earphones or headphones, i can hear the bass quite good and nice, the bass player is amazing
Dw !!
