A cheat sheet to defend Christianity, here's four questions for you... if you have faith, why do you need evidence to reaffirm your beliefs? Why is it that Christianity has adapted to function alongside science and not vice versa? Why did God create humanity, if in genesis he said he wished he never had? And, how did Moses write about his own death?
@MarkSeiler as a Christian I don't need evidence, The Bible is all the evidence I need. And what you said about science is the exact opposite science has to keep up with the revelations that the Bible told us about thousands of years ago but you probably didn't know that if you don't study the Bible.

Taoism doesn't say "never resist" taoism is in essence finding the most successful way around an obstacle by adjusting yourself to the circumstance. Emulating the qualities of water. "You put water into a bottle it becomes the bottle, you put water into a teapot it becomes the teapot. Be water my friend" - Bruce Lee
How do determine what an obsticle is without knowing what you destination or goal is? What is the ultimate goal of Taoism? Person happiness? Selflessness? Immortality? Survival?
@@johnsmith2797 The point of the tao is nothing. There's no beginning or end, there's no set goal. Like nature has no goals, no final destination. It is just is... living in it natural form, whatever that might be. Goals assume destination, but daoist believe in something that would be similar to an interpretive dance: you're not going any where, there's no accomplishment after it, you dont exactly know where youd be during it. You dont care, the point of the dance is just dancing. "Obstacle" is what you want it to be innately that you want to overcome, if it something that you feel like it's not in your innate being, then dont bother with it
@@johnsmith2797 It seems like the most fascinating paradox of taoism, but the beautiful thing is that it isn't. We come into this universe as human animals and leave as defined egos. Every individual ego is different, molded from their upbringing, country, parents, culture. I could have been born to different parent and have a completely different ego and not be writing this comment, but here we are. So, to address question in the video: There is NO moral code in taoism. NONE. Every individual ego decides their own code which is molded from their ego as I described. The strength of our code is a testament to the strength of our spiritual self. Our dominance of our spiritual self over our animal duality. An animal would not light themselves on fire, and yet Thích Quảng Đức, a Buddhist monk, lit himself on fire in a town square in Vietnam to protest the governments oppression of his people. His code was like iron. Taoism is unique in that it refers to all of humanity regardless of their religious orientation. A Buddhist, priest, rabbi, or your local gas station clerk could be spiritually awakened. The Tao or the universe, is also unfair, chaotic, and random. It might take the life of an innocent child by a freak accident, murderers and rapists exist too. Bad people exist in the Tao, the point is that you must follow your own divine destiny in spite of the others whatever that may be. Peace to you John.
The Dao means not to resist natural responsibility, except your circumstances and make the best decisions based on your circumstances. Nazis are not natural by any degree. He didn't exit the Dao because he didn't support Nazis. Alot people didn't pay attention.
This speaker is ridiculous. If a burglar breaks into a Christian’s home and threatens his family, according to this speaker’s logic if he killed the burglar he would be breaking a major Christian rule and could no longer consider himself a Christian. Of course though, he wouldn’t apply his oversimplified logic to Christianity.
@@obscuremusictabs5927It wouldnt be a sin because youre protecting yourself and others. Thats why Jesus’ disciples carried a sword and were allowed to use it. Thats how a christian would defend it. @@lol-ot4pn But I’m going by the speakers oversimplified logic. If he were to oversimplify Christianity the way he did Taoism he would point to Thou Shall Not Kill and would just say “yup there it is. If you break this rule you aren’t a Christian”. @@obscuremusictabs5927 Correct me if im wrong but didnt the other person had every chance to say “no, its not as simple as that”?. He AGREED to the speaker. In those types of arguments you are supposed to consider that the other side literally doesnt know anything about what you believe, hence the questions. As far as the speaker knows, thats what taoism actually is. He didnt oversimplify. Hes just going by the information in the conversation.
The dude failed because he didn't understand the deep meaning of Lao Tzu. Let's understand this with a simple example. If you get hungry, you won't just sit and wait for the death saying im going according to the universe. No, you will eat something. If you have no shelter, you will do something that can get you shelter. So, the meaning of "being one with the universe" means whatever situation the universe is giving to you, act accordingly but don't demand anything other than that. In that demanding, there is struggle, stress, anger etc etc & once you achieve that thing, you will demand for more & more. Which will create the habit of demanding and taking stress. It will also make you forget what satisfaction is, what happiness is. Becuase in stress / struggle, there is no satisfaction and happiness.

I hope the ignorance of this old man didn’t throw him off to much. Because I think one of the biggest points of Taoism is throwing away the concept of ideas. The term “resist” is used differently in this scenario. The true daoist would not waist time and energy on complaining about the unfortunate situation they find themsleves in. Instead they would accept their circumstances fully, and look to put their energy in helping themselves and the people around them.

Actually, he's a child, and uninformed, and simply didn't know how to defend the position. Taoism absolutely does not call for inaction in all instances. It is about maintaining a homeostasis. When there is a threat, you act, and you never seek to cause undue harm. That is why a taosit would resist something like the Nazi movement.

@@Swectorious He creates an extreme and prideful scenario that puts the kid on in a tight corner within the argument. Now in hindsight when taking into account the Word, it would be better for us to resist the Nazi's. But in the reality of it occurring, there are many factors that would be involved, which in this case it would actually be better to just go with the flow. There are no sides but the law.
@@SwectoriousI don't know if the kid fully understands taoism, or if he was just nervous and put on the spot. But defending yourself is also a part of nature, and taoism acknowledges that weapons are useful tools, but that war is a terrible thing and they should be used as last resorts.
The man should learn from that kid, nothing but humility and honesty. Hate that kind of people, that want to go over others because they have a different idea of life. Such an arrogant and ignorant tone. He should learn to speak.
Really? Cause it seemed like a young kid who has been playful with what is a new idea to him (Taoism) was seeking clarification with someone who thinks differently and he realized he had never thought of the glaring counter example. Or perhaps the "Tao" is for him to listen to his elder and become a Christian? Would that not be out of the realm of possibility here?

Daoism doesn't drop morals. Going with the flow of the universe does not mean going with the flow of the nazis. lol. If you are going with the flow, and the universe presents you with nazis, the flow may present you with other people resisting nazis or all the right information for you to be able to act upon to resist, to which is the path of least resistance for you to flow with. The flow of the universe doesn't disregard you, your life, your likes and dislikes, needs, beliefs, thoughts, and feelings. I've encountered this myself, actually. Sometimes the path of least resistance has been the path of most resistance for governments (ego and collective ego), attorneys, and boots in your face. If the government is trying to take away your humanity and very presence, the only choice left is to be so dang human and daoist, there is no other option left for them. The would rather weaponize their codes and statutes against my presence, so be it. I accept they may commit violence and even try to murder me for insisting on flowing with them as myself. The old man didn’t really care about what Daoism actually means or is about. He just wants to win an argument and “destroy” his opponent. That’s not a very intellectual attitude, but very American.

The man of war prefers the right. Weapons are instruments of fear; they are not a wise man's tools. He uses them only when he has no choice. Peace and quiet are dear to his heart, And victory no cause for rejoicing. If you rejoice in victory, then you delight in killing; If you delight in killing, you cannot fulfill yourself.”
Exactly, as I understand it a Daoist approach to the Nazis would essentially be one of resistance in the sense that the error in thier ways is recognized but also non-violent and leading by example of how we should live. Much like Ghandi or MLK. The speaker at the event (don't know who he is) is right for discussing how various philosophies would approach the Nazis, but I think his mistake is he seems the type to say "without objective morality then people are just gonna do whatever they want and kill each other". People look for certainty and order and in trying to make sense of things we create these catagories and rules that aren't really there. Best book I've read on this particular issue is Simone de Beauvoir's "The Ethics of Ambiguity"
You butchered it to say the man of war prefers the right. This is a misleading translation. I will post the original. Fine weapons are implements of ill omen: people may despise them, so those with the Way do not dwell with them. Therefore the place of honor for the cultured is on the left, while the honored place for the martialist is on the right.
One of my favorite chapters. It acknowledges that "violence never solves anything" is BS in the absolute sense, but at the same time criticizes anyone that has a bloodlust or perverse joy in combat or war. It's a grave shame to fight because it leads to negative consequences for at least some parties no matter what. In general, it's always more fruitful to cooperate and live and let live, instead of trying to rule over others.
Tao Te Ching Verse 32: Even the finest warrior is defeated when he goes against natural law. By his own hand he is doomed and all creatures are likely to despise him One who knows the tao never turns from life's calling. When at home he honors the side of rest. When at war he honors the side of action. Peace and tranquility are what he holds most dear so he does not obtain weapons, But when their use is unavoidable he employs them with fortitude and zeal. Do not flaunt your excellence. Do not rejoice over victory. With the loss of others, weep with sorrow and grief. After winning a battle do not celebrate, observe the rites of a funeral. One who is bound to action, proud of victory, and delights in the misfortune of others will never gain a thing from this world below heaven

To argue about wether He was taken from the grave or rose from it, is an argument a skeptic can make. Because well if you disregard the eye witness testimony of the disciples and there willingness to die for Christ, and humans won’t die for something they know is a lie, when Peter is pinned upside down to that cross, he could have said that it was a fake, but He didn’t because it wasn’t, what care would he have about death in this world if he knew for a fact he had assurance of a life in another, Jesus Christ did rise from the tomb and is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Now the evidence for the Lord Jesus Christ’s existence really isn’t hard to find a multitude of non-Christian scholars and historians mention Him within 150 years after the time of His life. One such is Tacitus a Roman historian who reported on emperor nero’s decision to blame the Christians for the fire that had destroyed rome in 64 AD. Tacitus wrote: “Nero fastened the guilt ... on a class hated for their abominations, called Christians by the populace. Christus, from whom the name had its origin, suffered the extreme penalty during the reign of Tiberius at the hands of ... Pontius Pilatus, and a most mischievous superstition, thus checked for the moment, again broke out not only in Judaea, the first source of the evil, but even in Rome…” In this Tacitus makes reference to not only Christians, but Christ calling Him Christus and confirming the Gospels going on to say that He suffered the extreme penalty (crucifixion) under the reign of Tiberius and by the sentence of Pontius Pilate, which like I said confirms the Gospels narrative. Another important source of evidence about Jesus and early Christianity can be found in the letters of Pliny the Younger to Emperor Trajan. Pliny was the Roman governor of Bithynia in Asia Minor. In one of his letters, dated around A.D. 112, he asks Trajan's advice about the appropriate way to conduct legal proceedings against those accused of being Christians. Pliny says that he needed to consult the emperor about this issue because a great multitude of every age, class, and sex stood accused of Christianity. At one point in his letter, Pliny relates some of the information he has learned about these Christians: “They were in the habit of meeting on a certain fixed day before it was light, when they sang in alternate verses a hymn to Christ, as to a god, and bound themselves by a solemn oath, not to any wicked deeds, but never to commit any fraud, theft or adultery, never to falsify their word, nor deny a trust when they should be called upon to deliver it up; after which it was their custom to separate, and then reassemble to partake of food - but food of an ordinary and innocent kind.” This passage provides a number of interesting insights into the beliefs and practices of early Christians. First, we see that Christians regularly met on a certain fixed day for worship. Second, their worship was directed to Christ, demonstrating that they firmly believed in His divinity. Furthermore, one scholar interprets Pliny's statement that hymns were sung to Christ, "as to a god", as a reference to the rather distinctive fact that, "unlike other gods who were worshipped, Christ was a person who had lived on earth." If this interpretation is correct, Pliny understood that Christians were worshipping an actual historical person as God! Of course, this agrees perfectly with the New Testament doctrine that Jesus was both God and man. You may have heard of the scholar Flavius Josephus who mentioned James as being the brother of the Lord Jesus Christ, which matches what Paul said calling James “The Lord’s brother” and there is another document that Josephus may have written which goes: “About this time there lived Jesus, a wise man, if indeed one ought to call him a man. For he ... wrought surprising feats.... He was the Christ. When Pilate ...condemned him to be crucified, those who had . . . come to love him did not give up their affection for him. On the third day he appeared ... restored to life.... And the tribe of Christians ... has ... not disappeared.” Now it’s up to debate wether this is the entirely original document of what Josephus wrote, or if a Christian had edited it. But regardless he wrote about the Lord Jesus Christ. Wether it was negative or positive like the possible document is. Anyways there are many other statements, documents, letters, and writings of all sorts from the ancient world talking about the Lord Jesus Christ and there is not one question if He was a real person or if He was crucified and went missing from the grave. That is clear as day, He is a real person, was crucified, and went missing from the grave. And He did rise from the grave. And for more evidence of the Lord Jesus Christ, there’s the Bible and you see there is no evidence the Bible is corrupted, a lie, created by the Roman government, folktale. It is the recount of the Disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, now wether you want to believe it is up to you. And what profit was there in spreading Christianity, All the early Christian suffered persecution, beatings, and were killed. Another Scholar reported that James the Lord’s Brother was thrown off a building and then stoned to death for spreading the Gospel in Jerusalem. These people went to great lengths even giving their own lives for the Adon Jesus the Christ.

The old dude proved nothing. Daoism is a way that seeks harmony and peaceful existence within the natural order of the universe. Nazism is a human engineered way that leads to conflict, strife, and war. A Daoist sees war as a disruption in the natural patterns of the world. A Daoist believes that perserving life is morally right and killing is morally wrong. A Daoist believes that employing war for political gain is wrong because it will inflict pain and suffering on the people and on the rulers. When faced with something like the rise of Nazism, I would think that a Daoist would try to assist others and help them escape deep into nature or flee the country in an effort to avoid all conflict, strife, war, suffering and oppression. The kid's answer was just wrong. A Daoist would neither go along with the conflict ridden philosophy of Nazism nor would they physically battle or fight against it because they are pacifists. They would choose a path that they believe aligns with the natural order of peaceful existence in the universe. They would either stay and try to help others in their community avoid greater pain, suffering, and death, or they would attempt to lead others to safety and avoid the conflict completely You can still go with the flow in a river without becoming a part of the river or crashing against the rocks or totally ignoring others who are drowning in the river. Even in a raging, powerful river, there's more than just one way to go. There are many smaller currents, eddies and calm places. Daoism accentuates the idea of compassionate living and taking responsibility toward the well-being of others seriously. Daoists feel that they have a duty to help others who are in need. Under a Nazi regime, a Daoist would most likely become a fugitive, and take on a service roll as a guide, teacher, caregiver or medical aide, assisting other people along the way, or the Daoist would be imprisoned or killed for staying in the Nazi occupied area and aiding and helping others who are in need. They would neither join nor fight the Nazis. They might also join the resistance, but only as an aid to those who are suffering. They wouldn't want to become soldier in the resistance.
@MaureenJonesSmithArts I'm not sure what I did, but you're very welcome. 🙂 BTW, I re-read my post and found some errors and few better ways to word my argument. It's still a bit repetitive, but I'm just a Dudeist. I'm not some expert on Daoism. I dabble.
I don't know that daoism necessarily is intrinsically pacifistic. "Wu Wei", a core principle of daoism which is often translated as "non action", is more of a path of least resistance concept that relates to inner struggle rather than actual physical tasks and choices in the real world, from my understanding. So aphorisms like "The sage acts by not acting" may mean something like, for instance, "don't over think it till you get anxious and make dumb decitions" rather than something more literal like "be one with nature, don't do anything at all, meditate until you die of starvation" So Daoism speaks to the notion of an inner intuition that, if followed, will have you do no more or less than what are the right things for you to do. If that involves fighting nazis, that's fine as long as that's what makes sense for you to do. However, it does imply that through meditation, you may truly learn to know yourself, and in so doing you will become deeply compassionate and hence, violence will rarely make sense.
People join and quit beliefs all the time. Wikipedia: "In Taoism, the Tao is the source of everything and the ultimate principle underlying reality.Taoism teaches about the various disciplines for achieving perfection through self-cultivation. This can be done through the use of Taoist techniques and by becoming one with the unplanned rhythms of the all, called "the way" or "Tao". Taoist ethics vary depending on the particular school, but in general tend to emphasize wu wei (action without intention), naturalness, simplicity, spontaneity and the Three Treasures: 慈, compassion, 儉, frugality and 不敢爲天下先, humility." What's wrong with that?
I get what you're saying, but he literally said No, he would not go with the flow and then agreed he likely isnt a daoist or w.e because his daoist stance did not stand up to pressure
"So, what I understood is that, being a TAO, you try to handle the situation the best you could based on the knowledge that you have acquired. But you do not resist the outcome, as results are not in your control. Sometimes the outcome will be as per your expectations, but sometimes they will not be as per your expectations. However, you just accept it wholeheartedly and hence remain calm and peaceful, keeping your heart at ease."
I wonder if the man trying to impose his will on the younger man has ever read the Tao te Ching. Based on his actions I’m inclined to think he has not. Anyone saying the younger man was ‘wrong’ who hasn’t studied the Tao is not offering any valuable contribution here.
The speaker is the Christian Frank Turek and he's known for lying. Both here don't understand Taoism, which had a huge impact on Chinese military history -- even Sun Tzu stated that the ideal general is an enlightened Taoism master. The young guy was naive in thinking that a Christian, which is impelled by his scripture to convert others, would have his best interests in mind. Nevermind that the Bible condones perpetual slavery, even of children, and the killing of unbelievers -- nor that the Cath Church were the biggest supporters of Nazi Germany. The Christian spotted a gullible young man and grabbed him. Interestingly enough, the ancient Greek Celsus spoke about this when observing the earliest Christians preaching: they would only go for the ignorant and disabled and throughly avoided the bright and learned because those were anathema to their BS.
These fellows have an inherent bias to prove christianity as great. Tao is he greatest standpoint. There have even been warriors who were disciples of Lao Tzu. It is a receptive approach to life. If some want to oppress another, they are unnatural, mentally pathological, anti-life. Tao is not supporting any anti-life pathological behavior. Humans have to rise higher in their humanity More humane. Gentle, fearless, serene, spontaneous and responsive. Capable of fighting and protecting ur dignity and freedom when required. Tao is not even against science. Christianity was never a friend to science. The renaissance was a rebellion against christianity. All the tech, scientific knowledge, and social equality and rights are works of those who ventured to explore truth and creativity. Not by some religion telling them 'this is how it is' Busshism could merge with Tao to give birth to Zen. Zen is a freedom to explore, to quest, to rebel, to be creative, natural, serene, gentle and loving. Just live as alert, mindful in each moment, committed to ur act. Self aware. And vibe with those who also create a life as such. Relax. Accept ur body. Observe life. Respect the life thriving in this vst universe. Live simple. Light hearted. Contribute to the world with ur intelligence, abilities, ur humane qualities. Religions as such, especially the politically charged ones today, have no such contribution, no such standpoint.
Im a Christian and I actually think I'm more on the side of the kid, rather than the Christian. But clearly the young man didn't make a good argument and either doesn't quite understand or he felt pressured to not be labelled a nazi sympathiser. War/conflict is an inevitable part of life. To be part of it and embrace it is going with the flow.
The dàojiā way would be to not end up in war. If that's not possible, then to win without fighting. If that's not possible, then to win with as little harm to people as plausible. Though not strictly Taoist, Sūnzǐ's Art of War would be the closest thing to a dàojiā manual on warfare.
A Taoist would not follow Hitler because Hitler was not leading his followers in accordance with nature. Hitler listened and followed his ego, not nature. A Taoist would not follow or reject Hitler, nor would they love or hate Hitler. They would accept his existence while realizing it may be immoral, but is ultimately temporary, just like any other man made idea or product. A Taoist would wake, eat, exercise, and meditate. A Taoist looks for peace within, not by following any person, or anything, other than the Tao itself.
Sun Tzu was a Taoist. The philosophy isn't "what should I do in every (im)practical situation", but how to view the flow of the universe and its inhabitants.
Taoism is about the path of *least* resistance. So it means you evaluate a situation and adapt to the path that takes the least amount of struggling and torment. If the nazis were invading the US, and you chose *not* to fight, the rest of your life under Nazi facist rule would be a lot more troublesome than defending your homeland, therefore ultimately the path of least resistance would be to defend yourself, when put between a rock and a hard place.
The thing is Taoism is only practiced truthfully by people and monks who have exited themselves out of this world completely. So they would not face such experiences such as Resisting Nazis. Only the modern everyday man would.
The term “resist” is used differently in this scenario. The true Daoist would not waste time and energy on complaining about the unfortunate situation they find themselves in. Instead they would accept their circumstances fully, and look to put their energy in helping themselves and the people around them. In fact they would even go to war to protect their land Daoism is like cutting wood according to the grain. Even in war there is a particular "grain" When hungry eat. When thirsty drink. When tired sleep. When in war..........
Does this mean that Taoism is never arguing or even explaining your views very well? Cause it sounds like like not even bothering to show up would have been more "Tao".
I take the best from each culture and each religion WITHOUT adhearing to any. I like the Tao principle of living in harmony with nature. Not fighting against things out of my control, unless I'm endangered, and going with the flow of life. It's brought a wonderful peace in my old age.
i am part philosophical daoist and philosophically christian. i dont see them as incompatible. daoism just teaches you, that if life is a hallway full of doors, push the doors that require to be pushed open, and pull open the doors that required to be pulled.
@sebastiangreyallendorff4724 yes which will always be acceptable to you because YOU made it! You make a God in your image rather than the original divine plan. Blind paganism in it's purest form!
Wu Wei is the principle of effortless action. "non-doing" , doesn't mean not doing anything. It just means effortless action, going with the flow of nature, and not forcing things. It does not talk about inaction, as this guy is implying... effortless action
miyamoto musashi, was pretty much a taoist, yet, he was the best samurai and killed several people. Taoism is about accepting what is before you, whether you want it or not. You dont want to cause harm, but you understand that existence has its own plan.
Uhhhh that counter argument didnt even align with what the kid said. "To be one with nature, go with the flow of the universe".... who said the nazis were doaists? This is literally the strawman argument. Whats actually sad is how many people in the comments also didnt catch this. I dont blame the kid he was the one on the spot but you all had all the time in the world to think about how you wanted to comment. Smh
You’re the one arguing a straw man no one said the Nazis were Daoists. When asked about Daoism’s moral standard, the kid said “don’t resist anything”. Turek then mentioned the Nazis because there’s no way someone in their right mind would not resist an enemy invasion.
@@jeremyjean-pierre4977 so you're saying there no such thing as an actual Taoist? That's makes it kinda weird the thing even exists in the first place huh? The best part about this is the nazis aren't a force of a nature are they. What was the whole thing again or right to be one with nature not anti semitism
Taoism preaches acceptance and non-resistance, but it does not mean blind obedience or complicity in injustice. Taoism encourages us to accept the things we cannot change, but it also urges us to stand up against injustice and inequality. The Taoist path is one of accepting what we cannot change, but also fighting to improve things that are within our power to change. Taoism would encourage people to take action in a non-violent way and fight for justice. Taoism is about finding balance and harmony in life, but that doesn't mean you should be a pushover or accept unjust treatments.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@MarkSeiler as a Christian I don't need evidence, The Bible is all the evidence I need.
Exactly, the answer he gave is correct according to the teachings because one would naturally defend his home
Thank you. With an understanding of Taoism it’s difficult for me to understand how people genuinely think this is a “gotcha”.
He didn't _leave_ Daoism, he just...went with it.

This speaker is ridiculous. If a burglar breaks into a Christian’s home and threatens his family, according to this speaker’s logic if he killed the burglar he would be breaking a major Christian rule and could no longer consider himself a Christian.

There can be no other way.
This young man went with the flow responding to the question naturally. By saying he would leave taoism, he just embraced paradoxical unity.

Yeah, not a better argument because it was a Straw Man. People do this all the time though, not just myself.
The old man didn’t really care about what Daoism actually means or is about. He just wants to win an argument and “destroy” his opponent. That’s not a very intellectual attitude, but very American.
Agreed, ideally we should discuss these subjects to come to a better understanding of truth but it seems most are just interested in "winning"
Well, the daoism presented by the young man was not actually daoism, it was the usual hippy-dippy "one with nature" spiritualism given a Chinese flavoring to feel exotic. Of which the old man has probably debated many times and is familiar with. He was right to poke holes in the young man's logic, else he'd continue to misrepresent daoist philosophy and do both social and academic damage to the practice as a whole.

He was conned. By a Con Man. The ART of War is Taoism!!
For anyone who hasn't studied Tao, it discusses war and violence, it makes it clear that war is only the absolute last resort, being in defence and should only be committed with great sorrow and regret, with mourning for both sides, if war occurs, one side has not followed the Tao and you, like water forced into an ever tighter space, are still water. His question on whether he would resist a cruel war of aggression, there is nothing to resist if he did not commit and if he were to take up arms against it, he moves like water, the rock so hard may part water, but the water, in the end always finds its way.

Tao te Ching Chapter 1 part 31
“Good weapons are instruments of fear; all creatures hate them.
Therefore followers of Tao never use them.
The wise man prefers the left.
The man of war prefers the right.
Weapons are instruments of fear; they are not a wise man's tools.
He uses them only when he has no choice.
Peace and quiet are dear to his heart,
And victory no cause for rejoicing.
If you rejoice in victory, then you delight in killing;
If you delight in killing, you cannot fulfill yourself.”
Fine weapons are implements of ill omen:
people may despise them,
so those with the Way do not dwell with them.
Therefore the place of honor for the cultured is on the left,
while the honored place for the martialist is on the right.

That's what almost all religious leaders do.
@salvas7376 Then I ask you, why are religions forced upon people? I’ll tell you why, because they aren’t meant to be. It’s a trick question. As Christians, we want another person to understand our beliefs because we want to save them from hell, realize what Jesus has done for them, and also because it’s part of the Great Commission. However, I would also say a lot of Christians are too forceful, for example the old kings and queens of England who either influenced Catholic or Protestant beliefs. Evidence for Jesus Christ’s existence, crucifixion, and disappearance from the tomb (He rose from it):
The Lord Jesus Christ did exist, gathered disciples, and was crucified and went missing from the tomb. Tacitus wrote:
“Nero fastened the guilt ... on a class hated for their abominations, called Christians by the populace. Christus, from whom the name had its origin, suffered the extreme penalty during the reign of Tiberius at the hands of ... Pontius Pilatus, and a most mischievous superstition, thus checked for the moment, again broke out not only in Judaea, the first source of the evil, but even in Rome…”
In this Tacitus makes reference to not only Christians, but Christ calling Him Christus and confirming the Gospels going on to say that He suffered the extreme penalty (crucifixion) under the reign of Tiberius and by the sentence of Pontius Pilate, which like I said confirms the Gospels narrative.
At one point in his letter, Pliny relates some of the information he has learned about these Christians:
“They were in the habit of meeting on a certain fixed day before it was light, when they sang in alternate verses a hymn to Christ, as to a god, and bound themselves by a solemn oath, not to any wicked deeds, but never to commit any fraud, theft or adultery, never to falsify their word, nor deny a trust when they should be called upon to deliver it up; after which it was their custom to separate, and then reassemble to partake of food - but food of an ordinary and innocent kind.”
This passage provides a number of interesting insights into the beliefs and practices of early Christians.
You may have heard of the scholar Flavius Josephus who mentioned James as being the brother of the Lord Jesus Christ, which matches what Paul said calling James “The Lord’s brother” and there is another document that Josephus may have written which goes:
“About this time there lived Jesus, a wise man, if indeed one ought to call him a man. For he ... wrought surprising feats.... He was the Christ. When Pilate ...condemned him to be crucified, those who had . . . come to love him did not give up their affection for him. On the third day he appeared ... restored to life.... And the tribe of Christians ... has ... not disappeared.”
Now it’s up to debate wether this is the entirely original document of what Josephus wrote, or if a Christian had edited it.

If this interpretation is correct, Pliny understood that Christians were worshipping an actual historical person as God! Of course, this agrees perfectly with the New Testament doctrine that Jesus was both God and man.

He just didn't really know what he was talking about, before even going there.
Presenting a non-dualistic understanding to a dualistic minded person is like handing a toddler a rubix cube. They're just going to suck.

True
So you're saying if the Nazis came up you'd come up with a non-dualistic (neither for or against) approach?
Your response is arrogant af. "Everyone who I don't agree with is a toddler." Excellent breakdown lol
@@BecomeUncancellable nah, you missed the point completely.
They would either stay and try to help others in their community avoid greater pain, suffering, and death, or they would attempt to lead others to safety and avoid the conflict completely
You can still go with the flow in a river without becoming a part of the river or crashing against the rocks or totally ignoring others who are drowning in the river.
Thank you so much
@MaureenJonesSmithArts I'm not sure what I did, but you're very welcome. 🙂
BTW, I re-read my post and found some errors and few better ways to word my argument.
So aphorisms like "The sage acts by not acting" may mean something like, for instance, "don't over think it till you get anxious and make dumb decitions" rather than something more literal like "be one with nature, don't do anything at all, meditate until you die of starvation"
So Daoism speaks to the notion of an inner intuition that, if followed, will have you do no more or less than what are the right things for you to do. If that involves fighting nazis, that's fine as long as that's what makes sense for you to do.
However, it does imply that through meditation, you may truly learn to know yourself, and in so doing you will become deeply compassionate and hence, violence will rarely make sense.
People join and quit beliefs all the time.
Wikipedia:
"In Taoism, the Tao is the source of everything and the ultimate principle underlying reality.Taoism teaches about the various disciplines for achieving perfection through self-cultivation. This can be done through the use of Taoist techniques and by becoming one with the unplanned rhythms of the all, called "the way" or "Tao". Taoist ethics vary depending on the particular school, but in general tend to emphasize wu wei (action without intention), naturalness, simplicity, spontaneity and the Three Treasures: 慈, compassion, 儉, frugality and 不敢爲天下先, humility."

He was not wrong. He doesn't have understanding of Daoism.
He still a Daosist because he pretty much went in with the flow in that interview 😂
🔥💯👍😎✌️
These fellows have an inherent bias to prove christianity as great. Tao is he greatest standpoint. There have even been warriors who were disciples of Lao Tzu. It is a receptive approach to life. If some want to oppress another, they are unnatural, mentally pathological, anti-life. Tao is not supporting any anti-life pathological behavior. Humans have to rise higher in their humanity
More humane.
Not by some religion telling them 'this is how it is'
Busshism could merge with Tao to give birth to Zen.

Sun Tzu is not a Taoist although was insipred by Taoism
Art of War is the closest thing to a dàojiā manual on warfare, but Sūnzǐ wasn't strictly Daoist.
"The man did his research" 😁 only his his entire adult life
Taoism is about the path of *least* resistance.
But if you were living in Nazi Germany, the path of least resistance would be to go along with the Nazis.
Fellow Taoist here and this young man is what we strive for .. he didn't leave, he is an inspiration.
I apreciate the young man, he is openminded, willing to learn, admit his flaws and change his opinion when presented with facts / new information
This person just created a vibe,,, he himself got happy and also made another person happy❤thats it.
and yet by admitting he would resist he went with the flow
The thing is Taoism is only practiced truthfully by people and monks who have exited themselves out of this world completely. So they would not face such experiences such as Resisting Nazis. Only the modern everyday man would.
This kid really just went with the flow of this conversation
He practice what he preach😂
"Water can flow and water can crash. Be water my friend."

The Tao says to defend yourself and your people tho. Essentially just says do not take up arms until necessary.
The term “resist” is used differently in this scenario.
The true Daoist would not waste time and energy on complaining about the unfortunate situation they find themselves in. Instead they would accept their circumstances fully, and look to put their energy in helping themselves and the people around them. In fact they would even go to war to protect their land
Daoism is like cutting wood according to the grain. Even in war there is a particular "grain"
When hungry eat. When thirsty drink. When tired sleep. When in war..........
He's a true Daoism practitioner
He didn't resist the man at all
Does this mean that Taoism is never arguing or even explaining your views very well? Cause it sounds like like not even bothering to show up would have been more "Tao".

I take the best from each culture and each religion WITHOUT adhearing to any. I like the Tao principle of living in harmony with nature. Not fighting against things out of my control, unless I'm endangered, and going with the flow of life. It's brought a wonderful peace in my old age.
i am part philosophical daoist and philosophically christian. i dont see them as incompatible.
daoism just teaches you, that if life is a hallway full of doors, push the doors that require to be pushed open, and pull open the doors that required to be pulled.

I dont blame the kid he was the one on the spot but you all had all the time in the world to think about how you wanted to comment. Smh
Aren't nazis part of the universe?
Are nazis not part of the universe then?
You’re the one arguing a straw man no one said the Nazis were Daoists.
When asked about Daoism’s moral standard, the kid said “don’t resist anything”. Turek then mentioned the Nazis because there’s no way someone in their right mind would not resist an enemy invasion.
@@jeremyjean-pierre4977 so you're saying there no such thing as an actual Taoist? That's makes it kinda weird the thing even exists in the first place huh? @@jeremyjean-pierre4977 Jesus doesn't strike me as the type to resist an enemy invasion....jus saying.
