I suspect Tommy being either lazy or not good enough to play power metal. Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed the guy's work for a very long time, but lately it seems he looks for ways to evade double bass sections. He makes them easier to play. And before anyone pulls the age card... Jörg Michael was playing super fast tracks in their original speed at age 50 and post-cancer treatment. So I don't know how to feel about Tommy.
Parvu Vlad But I really like Tommy despite everything :( He's always smiling. I'm just puzzled sometimes as in how he plays some songs somtimes. On the other hand it may be just a conscious artistic decision. Maybe he gets bored of double bass all the time so he mixes it up on purpose.
TS Prism Hehe, yes Tommy is the happiest drumer ever indeed ^^ . As for the playing style, maybe it's to adapt to Tony's new singing technique which seems to be a little bit softer than before - but after many years of Power Metal and screaming and stuff like that I don't blame, Kakko is still in an excellent voice shape. I respect Tony for being smart enough not to shout in every and each song like he used to...he clearly felt his voice is gonna damage soon if he keeps singing like that....on the other hand Kotipelto - apart from that throat disease he had a long time ago, kept damaging his voice...honestly since the 2003 elements tour he forced it too much ( I know that's how the songs are), also because of Tolki maybe who created them that high in the first place. But I also think Kotipelto damaged his voice further by singing while he was still sick from that disease...and you can clearly hear his voice is still dry even nowadays and lost some of its resonance...but hey I still love TK, my favorite singer and he is still in great shape even tho his voice changed a lot...as for Kakko - his voice is almost the same, just softer and less powerful. Sorry for the long comment :D
Trim Prism he doesn't "get bored", he simply cannot play the fast parts. Then again, san sebastian is a cruel song for the drummer, 175bpm non-stop doublebass for almost 5minutes. If they were to open with that song, it would tire the drummer for the rest of the set!
@@miikapiika1 It's only about half the song - The verses aren't straight 16ths. It's still rough, and it's definitely a downgrade from the 2006 DVD, where he plays it as it was recorded.
If you look closely at 2:32, the entire solo was actually played by Tony.

I saw them live in 2003 or something. Had trouble with the double bass even back then. Irritated me as a drummer, lol.

Jorg is a beast! But Rolf is not bad at all, Stratovarius knows how to pick a new band member for sure :)
