Or make it a lot faster on the downstroke than on the upstroke. Since aero forces scale as v^2, that'd make the downstroke generate a larger impulse than the upstroke.
@@zuthalsoraniz6764 ok so for you it either my solution to generate force on both stroke or your solution of generating force on one stroke then somewhat canceling part of that stroke on the second one, not to mention that as the vehicle speed increases the force cancellation will increase too and the overall efficiency will decrease with reduced atmosphere

But what happens if you make multiple pistons push against eachother, or make them "stretch" a joint or strut. What can you make if you deploy struts on them after launch?

It's also how you summon Cthulhu, without a spaghetti sacrifice.
