The fault lies with the faculty of the dept, this harrassment must be going on in th dept from a long time by other senior batches, that's where your present seniors learnt it from. Strict rules should have been laid down that no jr1 must be doing work or rounds before a specific time period. What about the consultant on call, where was that person. Seniors get guts to do all this because they know that faculty will support them. Shame on such a Institute, it's one among the top 10 in India, and such filth is going on in the department. You did the right thing, by sharing your experience, this must go viral so that the senior batches and Faculty behave properly and not abuse new jr's just because they are overburdened.

I could gather the courage to post this just because I left the institute..I had option and before it was too late,I resigned but it's not the case with everyone..sometimes residents go through this kinda toxicity and having no option left they take steps which become headlines and many go unreported too

As a student here at IMS, I would totally say that the faculties are the sweetest here, they are cooperative... the only thing is that bullying or ragging whatever you call it used to be core culture of IMS till 2016-2017 batch something, and the JRs rn are 2016-17 mbbs joining batch. After a couple months of harsh treatment(which is not really justifiable, but it what it is), these people become the best people you can get.

You had the courage to quit and stand on your own . But many cannot do it, and that’s why there is so much suicide recently. your one complaint can make a huge difference.

This may not be true for every institute but during my internship at my institute the OBGYN R1 were the most miserable people I've seen... Their seniors would humiliate them in the middle of the ward in front of the patients, the attendees, us interns and students... Not to mention inhumane working hours... It's high time we speak up about this nonsensical toxic behaviours otherwise it'll go on forever... We cannot do anything about the workload but we can be kinder and sensible towards our colleagues and juniors.

Sadly this kind of work environment is why we have actually normalised this kind of behaviour in the PG. No point in having the tag of Central institutes when it comes at the cost of the mental health to such extent.
They say that yes you will feel that that you did a mistake by being in that branch , but eventually it becomes better by couple of months or so , but thats only about workload and all , but this kind of senior authoritarianship is what actual toxicity is , like mindlessly senselessly just wanted to assert authority over someone new is just why people don't prefer Hard Core Surgical branches these days , because it might be easier to learn the actual surgery part but getting used to this kind of shitty work environment is not easy and should not be normalised

Best and courageous step should be to fight against the wrongs in order to bring about the positive change in the system. You could have posted this video about inhumane conditions without resigning, to make pressure upon the system.
However, even after resigning, you must take this issue with the authorities or for the intervention from GoI.

Just show them their place once everyone else gets the message once and for all. Don't be cowed down even once otherwise you would be cowed for life.
