As a developer of some 12 years before leaving the industry, i am awe-struck by and endlessly proud of Larian's work on this game. It is literally everything that i was told by the higher ups in my last few years was "impossible," "impractical," "under-monetized," and "a pipe dream." All reasons, among many, that i just lost the desire to stay in the industry. There's so much heart and soul in this game, and the big studios cannot stand that somebody actually made it happen.
You hit the nail on the head for me. I was in high school when Skyrim came out and it completely took a hold over me and steered me towards a career in software development. No game, no matter how much I had liked it, has taken a hold over me the same way Skyrim did. That is until I played BG3. I spend my day at work thinking about choices I made and how I would go about them in my next playthrough. Big big kudos to Larian for putting out this gem.
game devs are one of the laziest groups of workers ever. They are mad because a small studio worked for five years on a finished game at launch and it's selling well while the rest of the industry is trying to sell your game demos for $70 only to abandon the broken game the profits for the next game.
Dude it's not the devs, it's the people they work for, who are trying to screw as much money out of gamers as they can, while wringing all the soulless work they can get out of the devs. Same story as everywhere, it's not the workers, it's the people making the profit.
@@firstnamelastname7003 game programming is so mainstream these days most game devs aren't fans of video games they are simply programmers. So much of the corporate bullshit has trickled down and become ingrained within the people at these studios. Hardly anybody ever speaks out about it so the workers clearly dont care about the shit they shovel. all they ever complain about is not getting paid and being worked too hard. You think studios like Bungie in 2000 still exist in the mainstream but its not really true. Bungie made Halo because they were dissatisfied with the games on the market and wanted to make something that was fun for them it just also happened to be fun for millions of other people. I can't think of a single game studio that has that mentality.
Those other developers can get f'ed man, until Baldurs Gate 3 came out the only rpg I liked playing was a free multiplayer one called Akanbar, which is niche and all in text but creatively an absolute work of art.
So, I'm super curious, do you have editing experience prior to your six videos that you've uploaded? You get straight to the fuckin point in your videos, and I appreciate that. I hope you get big, definitely dropping a sub because this is just shy of rivaling content produced by Bricky or Nakey Jakey.
Just play it and share your experience. I am a game dev, and I want you to enjoy this aweseome game. It doesn't matter, that I did not make it, or how hard it is to make, it remains simply awesome. Play it and share your experience.
Games of this style and with these mechanics have been around for like 30 years. The thing is, this is the first one that's been heavily accepted by mainstream gaming likely due to DnD's recent surge of mainstream popularity. When this style of rpg was at its peak 20 years ago, gaming was still "for nerds" and games like this were for the super ultra mega nerds. I hope BG3 entices people go check out the older RPGs like this, cuz there's some serious bangers
I bet if this game was made by EA it would have loot boxes and they would kill the franchise if it was half way decent. EA has the worst industry practices of any triple A game maker.

I actually dislike turn based combat but this one gripped me on a level that is astonishing.

I'm so glad insomniac games aren't those people who spat nonsense at those beautiful devs who created BG3.
