    One tip I use to use to limit aggression besides these recommended tips is to place a mirror in front of the bully or aggressor. Easy was to let the aggressive fish focus is anger on a fish that's not really there. When I noticed my red devil being bully this worked and he eventually became a tank boss.

    raising from fry would help to , clownfish will only work if grown up together if u want more than 2or3. i have also noticed the same with my convict cichlids ones intraduced to a 40 gall as a single clutch of grown out fry prob 3/4 inch are less kill happy then my random assortment tank. especially with bottom dwellers like Pecos and catfish for some reason they never pick at them; but the old wild tank nips fins.

    I am in the process right now of planning out 3 really large tanks, 2 -5'X4'X4' and 1 8X4x4 tanks one of the smaller cube shaped ones I was going to dedicate to cichlid's I am not 100% certain what to go for as I am more of a Goldfish keeper (Orandas and Veiltails), the big tank was going to be Oscar's->4 and Arro's->2(if that). So this video is definitely helpful. Still not sure what cichlids I want to go for, I guess I should start with my centerpiece fish and work back from there.

    Hey I have a divider in my 150 gallon (6ftlong) I have my red devil and jack Dempsey on one side and 3 Oscars on the other. My red devil almost killed my tiger Oscar and keeps bullying my jack Dempsey. Gonna put my red devil in his own tank until Oscars get big enough. should I reintroduce the red devil or leave it be

    • @dwsdarius
      @dwsdarius  3 года назад

      If the red devil is kept alone it will only make him less sociable and lower your chances of a peaceful reunion. Sadly when fish make feuds, they don't put it down easily. My oscar and red devil can never be together, every time I try they fight and the oscar comes close to death...and yet when I try to put them together months later the oscars initiates the fight again. Its best to try to get them coexisting while they are young...as adults it'll be almost impossible...unless you have a female red devil...than the oscars will out grow her and they should balance out aggression.

    Great video man, tank looks absolutely beautiful.
    I've been wanting to take the leap of faith and try setting up a tank for African cichlids, but not having sufficient space at home and the economic aspect of it all, I am forced to try the dwarf kind for this type of fish. With this said, I have to go with a 55 gallon or smaller for these particular fish I want to start. Just literally finished all my research, so I'm just a few weeks away to start the project. Hope it all goes well.

    What if a smaller fish picks on the bigger fish what can I do about that

    • @dwsdarius
      @dwsdarius  5 лет назад

      That's a common possibility, usually if smaller fish get more dominance than a larger fish they are going to try extra hard to keep the bigger fish in check. At first I would give it time, once the smaller fish is sure of its dominance it should calm down after a few weeks, if not I would give it time away alone...and if that doesn't work just remove it from the tank

      Local streams, lakes...shore. I hike often and if I see a piece that looks useable, I grab it!

      @@dwsdarius I use that same sand as well. Looks natural and great against a black background. I take a window screen, pit it on top of a 5 gallon bucket and sift the larger pieces out. Your tank looks great. I'm in the market for another 125 and will make it a South American tank. I've been researching! I do have a Red Oscar alone in a 75 gallon but I think he may be too old to out in with others. He's probably 10 inches. Again, great natural setup. I will plan on something similar!

    Yes growing them together works wonders. Sometimes odd tankmates can get along fine. Your mileage may vary. Check this out - Oscars getting along with fish that would normally be food. They all grew up together:
