    This is very short sigthed. When it is realise renewables (wind, solar) cannot supply the electricity we need, they will be rebuilding these cooling towers

    • @pauldurdin6163
      @pauldurdin6163 8 месяцев назад

      There is zero chance of a developed European country returning to burning coal to create electricity. Zero. Gas maybe, coal, no. Nobody would be prepared to mine it in this country, it’s a barbaric job which led to early and painful death. And the cost of importing massive ship fulls of rocks - fiscal and environmental - is simply mental
      You probably think steam engines are making a comeback

      Or you could just build hybrid adiabatic condensers, which are 10% the size of these towers and more effective at cooling, commonly used at CCGT stations.

    Great work on the demolition but a disgusting waste of engineering and architectural history. It should have been preserved and kept for if we need it in an emergency. A shameful waste lack of respect for history and lack of foresight. The sky line won’t be the same again and no reminder of the once great coal areas of Lancashire which has been a significant part of the areas history and existence.
    Now I suppose someone can make a profit and knock up and other poorly build housing estate with another Tesco express and another Kebab shop. What a waste.

    Utter disgrace. Just like the foolish demolition of nearly all the beautiful brick chimneys loved by Lowrey, that used to cover the landscape. These cooling towers were iconic monuments - industrial art. We are living through very foolish and naive times.

    Wow. We live in NE Cheshire and if we walk up the hill behind our house we can see FF on the horizon if the weather is clear. We knew it was coming down today but sadly the weather was too misty to see it. I'm not sure blowing down these old coal-powered plants is a good idea. Without them on standby we could find ourselves in trouble.
