I've been designing homes for awhile and adding dormers and never knew about the "Attach Wall (Base)". I've always used attach "Top" but never used "Base" to attach the bottom of the walls to roof. Great Tip!
This was an AMAZING video that really solved a headache for me today. The selection of the opening was a bit funkier than the demo showed. - BUT S solved it and found that NOT deleting the back wall so soon was what I needed to do for solving that.Thank you.
Attaching the roof dialog box is not opening for me. I may have checked "don't show this message again" by a big mistake but now i am repenting it. @Balkan Architect please help me with this issue.
Great tutorial. Currently evaluating using Revit. Just wondering how the lead valley gutter between the two roofs is added ... and also ridge tile that stands slightly higher than main roof plane.
Typically I use the fascia tool with a fixed angle V or inverted V profile for valley/ridge/capping. It wont match the roof angle automatically unfortunately, so usually I'd build a few angles types, or just build them to work for the corners of 22.5 degree angles rooves.
@@AussieBIMGuru Thanks. Part of me does wonder why Revit does not cater for things like this that alter the outline shape of the mass as standard without work arounds, but will have to try.
Hi, This is really helpful. Thanks. Do you have a video on how to set the roof so it is cantilevering over the external wall frame so the eaves are the same as ceiling height level ?
The dormer roof you're extending has to be 'contained' within the boundary of the main roof joining to. Easiest to view in an elevation facing the dormer you're working on to ensure it works. Otherwise it's just another roof if it's higher than the roof you're joining to. Does that answer your question?
This isn’t helpful. when I do wireframe I see my entire building going back. I cannot cut a small hole in the roof for my dormer. I have been trying for hours.
Each viewport has 'Graphic Display Options' along the bottom left. It's the little menu with hidden line, shaded, realistic, etc. Just go to the top of that menu for additional options, find the 'Shadows' area and you can play with casting shadows based on the time of day or just ambient shadows to give a general sense of depth. The 'Sun Settings' is where you set the time of day to make shorter shadows close to 12p or longer shadows earlier/later in the day. Hope that helps!
haha I know, but it helps with viewer retention. There are parts of the video where I'm just speaking and it gets boring really fast, when there is a moving face there, it helps to keep people focused and not click on a different video.
You are the happiest teacher I have ever seen. Learning with you is such a pleasure. Thanks for any free materials.
You make it look so simple. It wasn't as simple when I tried, but I didn't even notice there was a dormer tool. Thank you!!

nice explanation, informative, u can make it bit quicker
great
This was helpful… but my walls wouldn’t attach to the roof after cutting in the dormer.
Nicely explained..thank you. Do you have any tutorials on working with point cloud data in Revit ?
It is a good video 👍👍👍
Yes... easy peasy.
When he points at the link in the bio, it seems like he is flexing
Hi Sir I'm following your video, do you have any channel regarding 3D Max? If yes please mention
It shows can't create boundary
When trying to join the roof I got the following error: "Part of the roof to be joined misses the target face". What should I do?

thank you just wondering how your shadows show like that?
