I actually REALLY like this version of Shockwave, armor and all. Remember, he IS a scientist, so maybe he developed the armor and uses it in the "Seige" story, telling of the days in the war on Cybertron. Also, at least to me, the robot armor mode kinda makes him look like the Transformers: Prime version of Shockwave, while being being a GREAT representation of the classic G1 Shockwave. The fact that I can see two of my favorite versions of one of my favorite Decepticons in one toy is just awesome to me. Sure he's $50... but for a Shockwave toy with THAT MUCH detail, that NAILS the look of the Classic G1 character and updates it for a whole new story... I say he's worth it, but that's just my opinion.

Okay I understand that's no where near a leader class but it's a cool toy in my opinion, but costs to much plus how did it get even to a leader class? All I'm saying is that if Hasbro put it in a leader class for a reason is probably because the extra parts was too much for the voyager box

Damn, I didn't realize how badly Shockwave was downsized, especially as a Leader class. Thanks for shedding some light on this, this is exactly what I watch reviews for. Keep it up!
Yes it is extremely overpriced but it’s Shockwave and the base figure minus all the crap is brilliant. I’ve been after a Voyager Shockwave since forever.
Not trying to defend Hasbro here, I'm just wondering. Has anyone done a weight comparison between the "fully armored" Siege Leaders and something like the Combiner Wars Leaders? I know the older ones had that tendency of being mostly hollow while these feel denser.
I definitely agree with you on his size being disappointing. And beyond that, I understand that these figures are getting smaller and smaller- my issue with this guy is that there is no reason for the extra parts. Why waste a leader class spot on a character that could be a voyager? There are plenty of larger and more involved characters that missed out on this slot.
It's a cool concept. Shockwave is a tactician and not a fighter so it'd make sense that he'd choose to have a little extra armor in fights. I even think the execution of the figure is good, but $50 is steep. He has a voyager class body, but the accessories of a weaponizer. He should have been an exception to the class rules and be $40 max, or just sold as a voyager without all the extra fluff.
First of all, "size classes" aren't based on robot's height, the only factor is the mass of the plastic in the box. My guess is that they came out with a an idea for a gimmick for Leader toys: voyagers sized robot with armor just like in the titan's return base modes. They probably just needed to make one decepticon for this to be a counterpart for Ultra Magnus. Still that armor looks bad.
You. Ring up a great point with the size. Is our deluxe sizes going to be our legends sizes. The sizing on figures lately make me feel like I’m being had by hasbro.
If you can manage it the hovercraft mode. Which I figured out by looking at the picture. Makes a really good base for him to stand on. Also try to get him for less than 50 I managed for 80 for both him and ultra magnus
Man, thank you for this review. As a Shockwave fan this hurts because I've been a fan of the character ever since owning his G1 toy as a kid. I was really turned off by the price point especially after seeing all the uneccessary crap on him. I went and purchased ER: Astrotrain instead and definitely don't regret. I feel like the Walgreens-exclusive Shockwave is more in line with what I'm looking for than this one. Here's hoping that I can find just the figure itself on the online markets.
I need to ask. Since Revenge of the Fallen turns 10 years this year, will you be bringing back the ''Optibotimus Looks Back'' reviews on the ROTF figures?
Optibotimus is "keeping it real". You're the first person to call out Hasbro on the size/price disparity. This is probably one of the few times in my life where Hasbro severely dropped the ball. The only possible reason I can think of for giving him the extra "pieces" was to bypass calling it a "gun". If it was referred to a gun , maybe they would be forced to give it an orange barrel and give him a gaudy color scheme like 2006 Classics "Nerf" Megatron? Thankfully, the base figure is great and can form the gun without the armor pieces. I got a $25 Target gift card that I'm going to use on him bc $50 is too much. Great work on the review nonetheless!
Worst part: in the classic comics and show, Shockwave was TALLER than Megatron. He even took on Megatron in a 1 on 1 in the comics and WON, then usurped megatron's leader status and took over as leader of the decepticons for a while, and he nearly succeeded in defeating the autobots. So not only was shockwave bigger, he was stronger and smarter than Megatron. It wasn't until Optimus and Megatron teamed up that Shockwave was defeated and gave Megatron his leadership back. He's my favorite decepticon because of that story arc, it really shows how much a powerhouse Shockwave is
I feel like Hasbro tried to pull a studio series and have the figures at a specific scale between each other instead of having an abnormally tall shockwave looming over megatron. and because of this they had to sacrifice a character for the leader class scale (and I assume it had to be a G1 character because then it would be an easy fix) without also ruining the new scaling thing they have. ultra Magnus works well because of him being normally taller than optimus prime, plus the gimmick of having "two figures" in one will help fill the pricing range, but off the top of my head I cannot think of a taller character from G1 (excluding combiners and character from combiner teams) that are taller than megatron, so the one that they sacrificed was sadly shockwave even though he is a smaller character than megatron (I think). can anyone think of a G1 decepticon that would work well in this new scaling thing they have as a leader class figure?
Also you guys fail to see that the older leaderclass figures are hollow as hell and these new guys aren’t. Also are t these the same fans that pay well over 50 dollars for a 3rd party voyager?
I think the reason for all the useless junk included, if you think back to the pick the next prime poll for Power of the Primes, Shockwave was a choice. same with Hound and Ultra Magnus. They may have developed a figure for Shockwave (and Magnus) hoping he (or Magnus) would win the poll, but Primal won the poll. So they back pedalled and released him in Siege along with Hound and Magnus.
I think that extra junk was more so they could actually give you his g1 alt mode. But they are probably not allowed make a non-masterpiece figure Deluxe or Voyager or bigger into a gun of some sort. So they added the extra junk to make it less obvious, while still giving us a more G1 non-masterpiece accurate Shockwave. I honestly feel like the quality of the plastic of these toys makes the price point worth it. They don't feel cheap like a lot of recent figures do.
I haven't gotten mine in hand yet, but I've watched a lot of the reviews, so take this as you will. I spent a few years as a model builder (gunpla in particular) before I got into action figure collecting. That got me deep into the mindset of "you're paying for the plastic." From what I can tell for this figure, we're getting well more plastic than we would get from, say, one voyager figure and two micromaster sets. And, Megatron and two micromasters would retail for 50 bucks themselves. Further disclaimer that Shockwave and Ultra Magnus are my favorite two transformers, so that makes me happier with this line so far than most people probably are. But, I think both figures look great. I like all the options and extra parts for Shockwave. I'm more bothered by the smaller scale for Ultra Magnus than I am here. I guess a solution could be to sell them as Voyager class figures with optional part addon sets? But that doesn't seem great either. I think people would feel like they were getting an incomplete product.
Not sure why people get excited to spend $50 on 3rd party upgrade kits to "fix" figures or combiners they're not happy with, but complain about something like this. I just purchased Shockwave today; WORTH IT. He is my fifth figure in the siege line along with Optimus, Meggs, UltraMagnus, and Sideswipe. There was SO MUCH WRONG with not a few of my POTP figures (I'm looking at you Abominus!). The level of quality and detail this line has is amazing. Shockwave is no exception. To me he had a greater level of molded detail when I compared him to my Optimus and Meggs. He also has a better feel in the hand than the other two with or without the armor. I know they raised the price a bit more for this line...BUT THEY FEEL SO MUCH BETTER. I would rather pay a bit more and get a much better quality toy than save $20 on a combiner that is riddled with QC issues (seriously, my copy of Abominus is a QC ABOMINation). I also happen to like that Shockwave can be both a laser gun or a starship that somewhat resembles the Revenge. My Shockwave is well made and free of defects just like the other figures that I have form this line. I also didn't have to buy and return him multiple times until I got a copy that had a fewer amount of defects that I could settle for or try to fix my self; that to me right there alone is worth $50. I get that he is voyager sized; but I also get that he is worth fifty bucks. /rant
This is by far the most honest - and thus the best - review of Shockwave I've seen so far. I've got Siege Hound for me and Siege Optimus for my 4y old. (Yes, recommended age is 8+ I know, but after about 3 days he can transform him by himself, #prouddad) Shockwave though? yeah it's a big NOPE for me. I mean what a mess of a figure. Why all the bling?? I've never seen a transformer with this many loose parts. I hope this isn't going to be a thing with the Siege line. Yes, the actual figure(without the loose parts) looks amazing but I just can't justify the purchase considering the price and lazy design('cept the details, those where nice). Thank you for a great review!
Well, I agree with your review. I bought it anyway because all I have is the Cyber Battalion and 2 legends class. Yes, I feel screwed but I'm happy that Shockwave is doing the screwing.
Excellent review. I was looking forward to finally getting a decent Shockwave but this really makes me look at Hasbro in a different light. So I'll just stick with the Deluxe's and Voyagers in this line if I like them.
I was taking these into consideration I was about to buy these but then I looked at the price and thought I just bought mp bee and mp wheel jack I don’t need it it’s overpriced
Will have to wait and see how you compare this to the Ultra Magnus figure for size - I won’t be paying full price for this, better to wait for a sale on it
If my target puts these on sale and I hope to god Shockwave is there when they do, I’ll buy it. Not worth 50$ if they just put the figure and ONLY the figure for like 20$ or 25$ I would’ve been happy and bought it
Damn $50!? Idk why but in my country theres a online store wich is selling leader class for a crazy cheap price like you can get this shockwave for around $28.05 thats crazy right!? And the deluxe class for around $10.49-$22.49
I agree, he looks like a good representation of Shockwave and is a good figure but not at a $50 price point. MAYBE, and this is a big MAYBE, the extra parts also formed one of those little drones like you see in the Cyberverse cartoon as well as arming him up and forming the glider would he be worth the $50. But, he is a Voyager figure with some extra parts, and $30 should have been his price point.
Finally pulled the trigger on this guy... he is sized perfectly in my collection. Towers over my deluxe RTS Optimus and is shorter than voyager Optimus. $55 was a hard pill to swallow but it’s shockwave so ow well. I’m confused about soundwave having his toy/marvel yellow eyes and starscream has red eyes???
While I do like the idea of Shockwave being a "load-bearer" like Ultra Magnus, they should've released the "glider" as a separate kit. I think they included those parts to further disguise the gun mode, which is kinda sad.
after many year, not only hasbro give us an brand new G1 style Shockwave but with a illogical prize for a voyager figure and not leader-class figure...
I enjoy your reviews Paul, and I am glad your doing well. While I can understand the hate going on for the current crop of figures, there are a few things. (I know Hasbro aint paying any one to defend them). A.) The plastic quality feels good and while hollow, for the most part they seem to have panels covering things(Not like having to 3d print parts for that Jetfire you showed off or the power master prime). B.)The joints are mostly pin, hinge and ratchet, prior lines used ball joints a plenty. Now while were at it those leader classes you picked up were from three years ago, so yes inflation hasn't caused the price to jump up that much, but the new factories Hasbro has built has caused some things (and as others have posted being Canadian, our figs for leaders start at 65.99 and bolt on 15% taxes depending on your province.) C.) With the amount of details they have added to the siege line , I have to say Hasbro is pulling their boot straps up and starting ( I said starting) to give third party companies a run for their money. In this case in particular I am glad to see something new done with shockwave. As a final thought about the cost, look at the last power of the primes line up, how many Overlords and Sky shadows have you seen lingering on clearance? I know up here there has been a lot, perhaps Hasbro has seen that too and also jacked up the price and lowered production runs to do things as well. (see not a total kool-aid drinker ^^ ) Anyhow that's all for now, again keep up the great reviews, and thankyou for all the effort and love you put into your work.
This reminds me of the new youtube friendly version of my favorite optibotimus video of legion class transformers animated starscream its like the best video ever XD still lots of great videos tho love ya videos paul
The first Transformers Angry Review of 2019! I agree, great figure, but not worth the Leader Class price point. Ultra Magnus too, especially since we already have a Leader Class Ultra Magnus. I'll still get this one for the new version and the "evolution" gimmick and I like what I see, but the price is ridiculous! At least those dreaded stickers are gone, though.
I actually dig the look for Shockwave, but I do not like it enough to pay 54.99 for him. Best case scenario is that I score on some random promotion. Looking forward to the Ultra Magnus review!

You. Ring up a great point with the size. Is our deluxe sizes going to be our legends sizes. The sizing on figures lately make me feel like I’m being had by hasbro.
Not long ago Deluxe class $12, voyager class $25, leader class $42
This being a leader class is
Dare I say
ILLOGICAL
Is he available for retail like target and Wal-Mart?
(edit spelled available incorrectly).
Yes
@@optibotimus Good. I don't really use online shopping at all. Glad it's at the strores.
I need to ask. Since Revenge of the Fallen turns 10 years this year, will you be bringing back the ''Optibotimus Looks Back'' reviews on the ROTF figures?
Not sure really
@@optibotimus Ah okay. Just wanted to know
Optibotimus is "keeping it real".
Man, if he just was the same size as previous Voyagers that would be icing on the cake. Smh
If done right, I think the "armored mode" could have been cool considering the bulkier Shockwaves of recent years.
I took your advice, and waited and found one in my local Walmart for $15 yesterday.
I remember when a deluxe transformer was only 10 and now its like 12 for a scout size figure.
/rant
Oh wow the "dedicated to jon baily" thing made me think he passed away for a moment.. i love that guy on honest trailers! Lol whew!
The Leader class for wfc are all smaller than leader class figures for other lines
This is by far the most honest - and thus the best - review of Shockwave I've seen so far.
I've got Siege Hound for me and Siege Optimus for my 4y old. (Yes, recommended age is 8+ I know, but after about 3 days he can transform him by himself, #prouddad)
Shockwave though? yeah it's a big NOPE for me.
How does he scale with the Prime and Energon versions of Shockwave/blast?
Well, I agree with your review. I bought it anyway because all I have is the Cyber Battalion and 2 legends class. Yes, I feel screwed but I'm happy that Shockwave is doing the screwing.
Shockwave is one of my favorite transformees and do you know if the seige toys are at retail stores
In the US both leaders have been popping up at Targets and Wal-marts. Only thing is they're both coming together in 1 box at a time.
Could you please review the galaxy upgrade optimus prime.
Excellent review. I was looking forward to finally getting a decent Shockwave but this really makes me look at Hasbro in a different light. So I'll just stick with the Deluxe's and Voyagers in this line if I like them.
I might get this instead of the masterpiece
No! Get the masterpiece, it’s more worth it at its price point compared to this which is a voyager priced as a leader (about $30 more)
Buy a KO Masterpiece on ebay for the same price. It's a great figure.
I was taking these into consideration I was about to buy these but then I looked at the price and thought
I just bought mp bee and mp wheel jack I don’t need it it’s overpriced
“General Kenobi“ nuf said
Will have to wait and see how you compare this to the Ultra Magnus figure for size - I won’t be paying full price for this, better to wait for a sale on it
Ultra Magnus is coming next week! Stay tuned and make sure you have bell notifications turned on to get the email when it goes live
I agree, this should have been released as a Voyager. No one will display him with that silly, clumsy looking armor on.
Out where I live, Shockwave and Ultramagnus are being put into security stripping.
Why doesn’t anyone flip up the fins on the sides of the bridge?!
I'd still pay the normal price for shockwave.
I think they included those parts to further disguise the gun mode, which is kinda sad.
did u have to do the finger
after many year, not only hasbro give us an brand new G1 style Shockwave but with a illogical prize for a voyager figure and not leader-class figure...
I think cause it's shockwave and hasbro don't make to many of shockwave figure's they charged more for him.. BWK.but not worth $50.
Now while were at it those leader classes you picked up were from three years ago, so yes inflation hasn't caused the price to jump up that much, but the new factories Hasbro has built has caused some things (and as others have posted being Canadian, our figs for leaders start at 65.99 and bolt on 15% taxes depending on your province.)
C.) With the amount of details they have added to the siege line , I have to say Hasbro is pulling their boot straps up and starting ( I said starting) to give third party companies a run for their
money.
(see not a total kool-aid drinker ^^ )
Anyhow that's all for now, again keep up the great reviews, and thankyou for all the effort and love you put into your work.
This reminds me of the new youtube friendly version of my favorite optibotimus video of legion class transformers animated starscream its like the best video ever XD still lots of great videos tho love ya videos paul
he should have been a janitor class as that his job most of the time.
Watch Peaugh's review of Shockwave for the hover board.
No
What if they made a joke about how Shockwave being really expensive for someone a little short in the WFC show they’re planning on making
Hey Paul, serious question, if you had to take a guess how much money in toys do you think you own?
The first Transformers Angry Review of 2019! I agree, great figure, but not worth the Leader Class price point. Ultra Magnus too, especially since we already have a Leader Class Ultra Magnus. I'll still get this one for the new version and the "evolution" gimmick and I like what I see, but the price is ridiculous! At least those dreaded stickers are gone, though.
I actually dig the look for Shockwave, but I do not like it enough to pay 54.99 for him. Best case scenario is that I score on some random promotion. Looking forward to the Ultra Magnus review!
I'll wait until he's on sale.... 😔
