So far this is the best advice anyone has offered on the golf swing because it's been a mystery to me how those easy and effortless swings a pro golfer has which allows them to hit the ball so far with an 8 or a 7 iron, etc. Now I know ... Outstanding lesson! I just subscribed to your channel.
Do not throw the club. Slow your hands down half way down your downswing... that releases speed and energy to the clubhead.
Just watched a RUclips video yesterday about Jake Knapp and how he’s able to smash the ball miles seemingly without effort….it’s all about fast hands throwing the club head through the impact zone! This is gold mate, thanks!
Jake Knapp is such a great example! He smashes the ball 👍🏼👍🏼
Do you have a link to that video?
Knapp has a great looking swing as well as a 127 clubhead speed. Especially with irons, he looks like his arms are almost slowing into impact. Obviously not, but definitely a great swing to watch.
Kevin you have some of the best content on RUclips. One of the hardest parts about golf learning is the phrases. Things like quiet hands and soft arms are really non-specific. Any advice with this?
Thanks ,I've been wondering why I just about drive the ball 180 yards and hit a 7 iron 135 yards. I know I'm 70 but I've always been flexible and strong . But no matter how fast I swung I couldn't get any further . And now I know , I've never been able to get over on to my left side . I tried your move in the garden with a launch monitor and managed a 99 mph swing speed. I'm off to the range tomorrow . You never know you might see me on the senior tour next year.😂
Hope to hear good results.
Good tips
There's something about driver that slows down my swing, I think u really need to focus to relax and let the club do the work! My muscle memory is ruined from swinging slow and being to stiff
@@Hacktheplanet_HACK THE PLANET! 🌎
Great explanation on where to apply speed.
I was working at home on my swing, was making one arm swings a while back and I noticed some speed and distance gained, but I was missing this key thought. This makes it easier to harness and to control the club head. When I tried this I immediately thought back to my left arm dominant swing. This is nice and I am hopeful again. If I can improve my iron play to a reasonable point, I could play even par.
seems straight forward enough I'm going to try this. P.S. thanks for making this a short video don't need to spend 15 mins every time I want a quick tip
Fantastic lesson, you earned a new sub! Three questions…1. How do you keep the lead arm straight without becoming tense / rigid? 2. What is the key to accuracy swinging like this? 3. What is required to time this swing? Thanks very much for starting your channel! I will definitely share it.
Exactly, I keep hearing "lead arm straight" in other videos, but fail to achieve this without becoming tense.
I'll try that tomorrow!
Thanks 🇺🇸👍
Makes perfect sense. Thank you!
Best video on RUclips, thank you!
Brilliant, many thanks.
Great explanation
one of the greatest smash factors i've ever heard! thank you!
Thank you 🙏🏼
This is like what every single golf coach must inform their students but all seem to fail. I realized this myself last summer and wondered why none of the golf coaches had told me this. This is so fundamental and so important and so many amateurs do this mistake. I'm so annoyed there are so many bad golf coaches.
They need you to keep coming back for lessons!
I think you are referring to timing? It helps me to count: ‘one-and-two’. Good item and I love you remind of making the swing more smooth!
Kevin, great points we all need to work on. Thank you explaining. Will try it out this morning!
This is a wonderful video, Kevin!! The average golfer should have as much tension in his body and swing as a wet sponge. Not an iron beam!! I love the analogy of creating that feel by letting go of the club like a baseball swing. That clearly is why many pros actually hit better shots when the grip comes loose. There is nothing holding back. I can't wait to try this drill and watch the speed Amp up on demand. With practice, of course. GREAT STUFF!!
This is just a feeling of a proper follow through (just let the club go and release the power generated), which means a beautiful divot flying up after ball striking (you cannot see it if with a chicken wing). And the truth is most of the ameteurs are not able to do that. Once I asked a golfer about hitting the ground properly, and he said, I don't hit the ground. That's why he cannot have solid ball strike. I've been playing nearly 3 years, I fixed my early extension, head moving, outsidein, and many other problems, now, it's the final part of the jigsaws: a beautiful follow through.
Thanks for the informative video.
Thank you Kevin. I have never heard this explained this way. I have tried the no tension swing before and had the same distance problems. I just went outside to my net and I was surprised how this works. I'm golfing Monday and will try this on the range before my round. Will let you know how it turns out.
Please let me know how it goes!
How did the round go?
Hi Kevin, when I started the round, as expected, I was like a new golfer, shanking and miss hitting everything. Then I settled into it by hole 9 and was flushing hits. One of my swing thoughts that helped was using side bend in the down swing. I never realized how that was also key until I was watching a Tommy Fleetwood swing on Hack Motion and noticed how his right elbow brushed his right pocket in the downswing. Perhaps you could cover this as well.@@Leepfall
it's been 12 days. probably turned out so good that he's still out there playing..
So how did it turn out?
Good content, thank you!
Great lesson !!!!! I love how easy you make your lessons to understand. I just subscribed to your channel.
Absolute gold this will save a lot of back injuries
👍🏼👍🏼 absolutely
Years ago I saw a short clip of Ernie Els hitting a short iron on a practice tee. I noticed he was doing exactly what this guy's talking about in this video. It showed through well with Ernie because he has such great tempo.
Thanks for this lesson on 'throwing' the club. I have noticed that if I make an easy swing with no tension that I get better contact and a proper ball flight/loft. However, I have such a hard time keeping my lead arm straight without tension.
I would recommend not to extend your lead arm too much! It might even feel a little bent at first because swinging without tension is more important than a straight lead arm!
True, but how do you maintain shaft lean? Throwing could lead to the head passing the hands. Thanks for the video.
Thank you Kevin great lesson. I'm going to the range to practice this!
Amazing, you make that look incredibly easy! Am I right in assuming that the monitor showed 155 mph ballspeed on that last shot?. That is crazy high with a 7 iron and in the same territory as Cameron Champ who is pretty much the highest on tour. I am 64 years old but probably outweigh you by a lot and was just hitting a 6 iron about 195 yesterday but you make it look much easier. Your hips weren't even that open at impact (maybe 30 degrees or so?) so you are leveraging those arms and hands really well and I think that you have an exceptional ability to do that. One can see that you are very good at getting the trail elbow into external rotation at a high rate of speed which is necessary for that explosive release. The advice is great but I'm not sure that a lot of people can do that at the same level as you do. One thing that is very instructive is that you are not straining for extra arc but are letting the arc that you can comfortably achieve contribute to a relaxed slinging acceleration of the clubhead. We can all learn from that. Cheers.
No. I'm guessing you're looking at the number in the lower right corner? That's the average distance in yds for this set where he hits a mix of short and long "7-irons" (be careful what you assume a 7-iron is-I don't mean to take anything away from his long shots, they're great). You don't see the clubhead speed or the ball speed on screen.
@@AndreeMarkefors Yeah, I saw other videos where he's got the clubhead speed on the video which is in the 88-89 range (around the same as me) which puts ball speed at < 130. And I also realize that it could be a jacked club in some sense. Cheers.
Brilliant video you do really make it look so simple 👏
That was an outstanding tip sir. Many thanks
Ok, that was really good... have subscribed and will try that tomorrow at the range - cheers!
Thank you for the advice. This makes sense.
Please make another video to clarify this what u mean by throw the club towards the target? We all do same way but still I am not getting the distance. Please help.thanks.
I have been following Kevin’s lessons and protocols and this works. I was around 160 yds with a 7i now I’m 180 carry. Tip- set that right wrist and don’t release it
I’m confused by what you mean about setting the right wrist. Do you not need to release it in order to release the club and throw it forwards?
Or is it not meant to feel like you’re pushing the club forward with the right wrist through impact?
please elaborate more on "don't release it".. with a video perhaps?
@@delphiniumoVery few players use this technique, there are only a few elite players that do, I think it's more likely to injure your wrist if you fat the ball into hard ground as it's in a weak position.
Stick with the tried and tested throwing release at its more natural, like throwing a ball.
@fb206415 you say this works then your “tip” is to do the exact opposite 🤦♂️
Good tip thumbs up good luck on the channel
Great tip,Hwang to go
Yes, great drill and a great swing. Left hand has to press against the left side of the shaft when it is to the left side of the shaft. But, the real secret to holding off at the top is to just simply hold off. Index finger part of the left hand has to press towards the thumb pad of the right hand in the transition
???
I love this drill. Thank you for sharing.
What's the loft on your 7 iron though? Each set is different.
Excellent lesson!!!!
This seems to make my swing faster but when I try to throw the club at the bottom my trail arm tends to push hard take over and cause a hook. Any tips for dealing with that?
Any examples of how to check if the throwing action is correct? Throw forward at what angle for the force vector?
Straight at the screen, parallel to the ground. Directly at your target
I'll have to give this a try at the range today.
Like your video because you did hit the ball and show, unlike some only talk all the way
I will definitely try this, thanks!
No problem!
Good stuff.....thanks for posting
This is great! I need to figure this out. Do you have good drills?
Ty short concise no selling ,just incorporating basic physics into swing,Epic
This makes perfect sense, because if you hold the club tightly/strongly, it will move with the speeds of hands, and hands don't move that quickly as the club itself if you let it go...
Nice tip. Thanks
great lesson thanks. Q. when you throw, do you throw the right hand or left hand and do you use a stronger left hand grip.
Thank you for the lesson!
Nice have sport for golf
The move at the top, just as he is starting down, is what Freddy C does. Move the elbow down and in and that brings the right hand into a really strong throwing action coming down palm up. I do it and it generates a lot of clubhead speed with less effort!
I like the way you hinge at the top
Thanks for the lesson, is this the same for driver ?
Very useful tip, indeed. Does this also apply same way for the driver? Greetings from Poland! 😊
Love that slingshot idea. Very helpful.
Do you work on your early extension at all? Or does that not bother you or nor hinder your swing?
Thanks 😊
I can relate to this having only recently been able to feel a sling feeling at impact. I get the release part but I sometimes get the feeling that I'm releasing at impact in a similar feel to an athlete in hammer throwing, where there's a slight "pull" at the end. Is this ok or am I actually pulling the club head thru too aggressively?
Great information
Thank you hope the video helped 👍🏼
My thumb is up.
Nice video. How do you ensure low point control and mid-face contact while applying this release?
Stand as if tryna drown a beach ball in the ocean with your hands. In other words, initiate backswing with downward pressure and maintain pressure away from your chest with your hands throughout. I absolutely murder golf balls with some pretty old clubs
Good job
Awesome tip bro! 😎
I normally hit my 7 @ 155 yds, Im going to try this.
Do a video with this technique using your driver
Love this video 🎉❤
What does the +/- 77 yds on the screen measure?
So much truth in what he says BUT you still need to have the proper sequencing. A 200 yd 7 iron doesn’t do much good if you can’t hit it straight. Don’t expect one range session to get this right. If you don’t believe what he’ talking about, look how far the gals on the LPGA hit it. It works but like anything else in golf, it takes some time. Great Video!
Brilliant
Hey Kevin could you do a video on ground force to create speed
Great stuff
Thank you 🙏🏼
Just curious, what are the numbers at the bottom of your screen? The one on the left shows 155 yards and the right says +-76
Hand speed. Pros hand speed is around 20 to 24 mph, give or take. Most amatures are about 17 to 19 mph. Focus on hand speed, club speed will come
I'm a left that shoots right and left arm dominant. I shake hands with the target or at least parrallel to it with my right hand and my speed increased. I pulled too many shots using left hand as the dominant hand
Amazing
I started learning this only last year after practicing my swing in my living room lol
This works for the driver as well right
When you show the example of the 1 armed swing, the arm isn't extending on the front side but rather bending to 90○. Could that not cause a chicken wing?
I agree with your method but I think your 7 iron is strong lofted, I bet it’s around 30° and were those Carry distance or total distance? I’m more concern how far I carry my irons than total distance.
He doesnt mention that you move back, anchor your right leg and move your right rear back on back swing and then go forward on down swing. Watch the pros and you will see that. Watch him closely and you will see that move. Thats where the power is.
i've watched about 30 seconds of this, and i can already tell he knows what he's talking about
What is the loft angle on that 7 Iron. I caddied on tour once and found out that players delofted their clubs so they seem as if they hit it further.
Don’t know if that’s true even if loft is lower it’s not going to create more ball speed. It may help lower the ball flight but you can do that with ur swing as well.
4 min video and explains some of the best info that all the other 30 mins videos don't even tell you. Or they do tell you but make it so complicated that you can't even understand.
What degree is your 7 iron?
I can and have hit over 100yds using a putter.
🎯
God I'd love to hit my 7 200yds!
I get 205 7 iron not throwing the club at the target. I go for an opposite feel which is to hold the face through impact and turn my body. I’ve had really hooky or slicey iron shots when I turn the club over through impact because it’s not very repeatable.
If you don’t have the physical frame to hit the ball far I think play your game and keep the clubface square and work the short game. If you were 5’5” and trying to play pickup basketball no one would say you should set a trampoline out in front of the hoop and start dunking, that’s not your game.
Maybe I’m wrong and if you do it enough you can time it but if you have an off day timing it you are going to have a bad day.
Body size really isn't a thing
If you turn the club using your wrists you will shut the face and hook the ball, when you throw a ball you do not rotate your wrists left or right.
You must have good face control to use this release, otherwise the face will be open at impact, practicing punch shots will help you feel how to keep the face square through impact without manipulating the face by rolling.
You hit your 7 iron 200 yards. Was that a total distance or a carry??
Having a 7 iron with 29 degrees helps too
Wrist flipping release. To be precise..
Be careful with "throwing" the club! If your hips aren't rotating and your path isn't "in to out", throwing your hands toward the target will cause a massive hook...
Yeah good point. I think this throwing idea is too vague, what's really happening is he getting massive club head speed from the club head rotating around his hands , that's where all speed comes from, this whipping sensation
They slow down the hands at parallel... they don't throw the club. Slowing the hands releases speed to the clubhead.
Also tour average carry for 7 iron is 172 yards not 200. Your 7 iron must be delofted at least 5 degrees.
Wish you would have gone into more detail and close-ups of what you’re trying to do when you are throwing the club near the trail leg. It looks like you roll your wrists but hard to tell what we should be trying to do based on just you talking about it alone
It looks like to me you speeded that swing up from the start That’s what it looked like to me but maybe it’s the thought of doing that Feel is not real 😂 I will for sure give it a try the drill is swing easy add the release of the trail hand and throw then try it with both I think I got it thanks
They dont pull down from the top? Thats news to me. Thanks
How is it "effortless" to throw the club towards the target?
