The 'Medal of Honor' is the highest award that be achieved in the US armed forces. It doesn't matter what rank you are, even generals must salute the recipient.

All these men are 'the best of the best'. They fight to protect us from very real threats. At an individual level, I think they are so incredibly brave in combat largely due to looking out for their friends, certainly not for money, but I believe the U.S. government should make it so all of them and their families never have to worry about money ever again.

A Marine by the name of John Lejune(I think that is how you spell it lol)won 3 Medals of Honer, the only person to ever do that I'm pretty sure. They named the biggest Marine Corp base Camp Lejune after him. I'm pretty sure he survived all of the actions that he won them for. Alot of soldiers and warriors don't survive threw what they get the Medal of Honer for, I've heard alot of people call them "death medals" but either if they live or die they are true heros, a real life superman in my opinion.

These people fight for your freedom and for your life. I just hope these poor soldiers werent put in thid situation because of bad command and intelligence.. Just seems so stupid.

Are you serious? They deserve more than that for doing what they did for their comrades and for protecting the American people through this horrible war. Just one question: Is the government going to assist the veterans in everything they need and deserve when they come home? They cannot live and provide for their family off the medal of honor, even though they have earned it to the fullest, and beyond. We cannot forget that their rations and pay were reduced due to government decisions, among other things. Lets not desert them in their time of need once they come home. NOTE*** Lets not forget that these veterans have seen horrors and have been through horrors first hand. Something that we will never have to experience because of their bravery. And, unwillingly, will have to live with the horrors embedded in their memories for the rest of their lives. GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!!!

    • @Troublesome2008

They get more than "just" the Medal. All Medal of Honor recipients get a $1,194 monthly pension. Plus there is a 10 percent increase in their retirement pay. They also get to fly on military aircraft at no cost, if there is space available, and they and their families can use military recreation facilities like pools, bowling allies and golf courses. And each Medal of Honor recipient's child, if they qualify, can go to a military academy without having to worry about the quota for his or her state.

I know this is kind of late, but a soldier with the Medal of Honor is given respect among all other soldiers, including the president.
They also get an income for life, as well as a favor from the president, as long as it’s legal.
Is for ptsd and mental issues, a soldier has to deal with it in their own.

i think the main thing is that the act isnt self preservation, so like a guy can kill 100 enemies, but if hes doing it to save himself he cant get the medal, the fact that the guy pulled out the soldiers from a vehicle shows that he was willing to lay down his life, because most people would have ran out of the vehicle as it was being bombarded with sniper fire

I would say most soldiers never wish one day to receive this reward in their lives, not because it isn't honorable but the price is too high. If he is rewarded then either his own live or a few of his friends' lives have to give away.... I used to know a man (in South Vietnam) received similar medal but he lost both arms, both eyes, both legs .... and of course with a few of his men. He just said "thank you for rewarding me this highest medal of honor but sorry i can not stand and have no hand to hold it, i could feel it but no longer seeing it". That was the shortest and saddest speech I have ever seen. By the way, whoever directed this camping should be fired, he did not follow basic things that Chinese warriors have used for thousand of years: good defensive location.

As a graduate of the Army''s Field Artillery Basic and Advanced courses, I continue to be unable to understand how the Army was unable to provide adequate fire support to soldiers in Afghanistan.

That's not my only choice im joining because thats what i want to do. Unless a huge war breaks out in the next 6 years the likely hood of me dying in the Military are very slim.

Who the hell thought it was a good idea to set up an outpost at the bottom of a narrow valley like that? That's waiting for an attack to happen.

  • @tommyhome5216

no one believed that the Taliban will attack the outpost in a mass scale even after the afghan translator tried to warned them repeatedly. hence left the post more indefensible.

Let me clarify this for you since your intellect does not go further then this.
I support the soldiers in coming home, i support them in doing there jobs well, i support them when it comes to uphold order, be fair and just and things of that nature.
I do not support the part where some soldiers kill innocent people, steal natural resources and do something that is not within there legal job description.
P.S. I only respond to 500 character messages at a time.

I am enlisting into the Marine Corps. How can you say soldiers are stooges? There's very smart people in the military and not so smart. Just like there are in anything you do. You do have to take a test to get in they wont take anyone, the ASVAB is not hard but i do know people who've got under a 31 on it. As me i am not joining to fight in any way, im joining to get something worthwhile out of my life.

COP Keating was designed to work as a waypoint between 3 vally access points. That being said, It was too exposed and officers responsible for supplying the COP with much needed fire support, which was not given, were found guilty of failing to provide adequate support: By means of intercepting Taliban/ Al Qaeda patrols, or by coordinating airstrikes during the battle., and were promptly relieved of duty. 8 men KIA, 27 Injured, with another 4 ANA soldiers KIA.
The Taliban penetrated the base and caused havoc, looking ammunition stockpiles placed at that COP before airstrikes closed the COP after the Coalition evac'd. It was a shitshow.
