Two of my favorite failed Cartoons were Macron 1, a Giant Robot Anime, and Dragon Warrior, with art by Akira Toriyama. Both were produced by Saban entertainment who was so cheap, that cassettes of said Anime with only 2 episodes were in EP 6 hour mode quality, with the cassettes having very little tape. Macron one was the only giant robot anime I really liked, aside from G Gundam, and Dragon Warrior was canceled because Akira Toryiama sued Saban due to leaving him out of the credits.

I remember the whole lot in this video, also, The New Adventures of Zorro, first aired in 1981, and not a single one of the iterations of the series from '81 into the '90s took place in Spain, They all took place in California when it was still a colony of Spain, In fact even the live action t.v show and the movies all took place in Spanish colonial California.

They would either ruin it with politics, or most people would expect it to be ruined and not watch it causing it to be cancelled again anyway.
For example look at Transformers One. Everyone says it's good. Not enough people watched it because Hasbro sucks! And I myself will never watch it for that same reason. I don't care how good it is.
If they made a Pirates of Dark Water remake/reboot/or straight up continuation from where it left off, I'd avoid it like the plague simply because Warner Brothers owns it and they can all go to Hell!

The Jungle Cubs was fine for what it was. The 90s was a notorious time for cartoon studios to kiddify already popular cartoon characters. Warner Bros. with Tiny Toons, Hanna-Barbara with A Pup Named Scooby Doo, Flintstone Kids (this was actually 86), and Yogi Bear and Friends. The Jungle Cub characters maintained the personalities from 1967 movie, with the exception of Kaa who was more indicative of his book character in that he was an ally of Mowgli, and very supportive in the book, and not a minor deceptive antagonist as portrayed in the movie . While everyone was friends and the stories were light and simple, I do remember that one of the episodes was based on a story from the book in which Mowgli and the group go looking for "man treasure" as they called it.

    • @Regfife
      @Regfife Месяц назад

The episode with the red dogs was also from the original book. While I did enjoy it as a kid, looking back it bugs me that they were all buddies, including Shere Khan. In the Disnay movie, (which the show clearly played off more than the books), most of the animals didn't seem to like each other that much, (except for Bagheera and the wolves), and they were all terrified of Khan. So having them be friends all watching each other's backs seemed increasingly weird to me, though I know it was the easiest way to write plots for them all.

I consider Sonic Underground a failed cartoon because it only had 1 season. One more video and it'll probably be featured: Failed cartoons of 1999

I was in my late teens and early 20s when these were aired, so I only know the names of most of these through my nieces and nephews, except I am old enough to have watched The Pirates of Dark Water. The others I have zero memory of at all.

Off beats was one of my favorites, but so was kablam and sheep in the big city. Those shows played a keyrole in my humor and personality. Dark waters so, sad it didn't last long. I knew something was up when Kmart had the toys on clearance back in the day😂.
Silver surfer, though, really taught me to think and see life differently. I'm sure the failure of the show could lead back to the lack of action at times and constant introspection from the surfer. That wasn't extreme enough in the 90's. Fun fact I own a silver surfer shirt from 98 to commemorate the show.

Never sat channel umptee3, But I can recognize the genius Rob Paulsen when I hear him
Never saw Silver surfer when it aired, but caught it much later. It was great.
Only one of these I watched while airing was Pirates of Dark water, It was an amazing gem, And truly sad it never got a proper ending.,

Pirates of Dark Water is one of the most popular short lived cartoons! Too bad they never revived the cartoon, it deserves a reboot. I also remember Jungle Cubs on ABC’s One Saturday Morning. I only remember All Dogs go to heaven TV series in a Kids WB promo that aired before the block, The Lionhearts would’ve been good if it came years earlier, since the WB homage cartoons like Animaniacs ended at the point.

I do remember a scant few of them, like I know Don Bluth had his work scattered all over for years since Dragon's Lair and Space Ace were on Saturday Supercade. I know during the 90s, Marvel and HB were jockeying for position with what they had. I feel for HB, what they had before that with Sky Commanders and the 80s Jonny Quest revival hit them hard. Jonny Quest could've stayed but Sky Commanders was better made as a oneshot. You also have to consider that video game adaptations added to Pirates having an advantage on those two. For the Marvel side of things, they were trying to revive their superhero block they once had in the 60s. I see what they were doing with what they had, it was a gambit since X-Men and Spider-Man were doing so well during that time. F4, Iron Man, Silver Surfer just didn't have that same spark that those two series had. Disney was simply copying what was out there already since their Disney Afternoon block was ruling the weekday schedule. Sadly, you can only do the 'Kid' thing for so long that it wore itself out. HB showed that off through Yo! Yogi, A Pup Named Scooby Doo and the Flintstone Kids. MWS had some interesting shows after TMNT took off but they fizzled out afterwards, they tried their best though. Nickelodeon was in a class of its own with what they had going on.
I'd say a lot on this list here weren't considered failures, they fizzled out mostly cause they made Saturday (and even Sunday) mornings into its own Royal Rumble. If there weren't so many revivals going on, they possibly would've lasted longer.

The only one of these TV shows that I actually watched was Disney's Jungle Cubs.
The others, I've either just seen clips of, or have heard of\seen listed in a TV guide listing.
Another TV show that premiered in 1998 & ran for 2 seasons with 52 episodes was Histeria!
I didn't actually get to see Histeria! until earlier this year when MeTV Toons started showing it for an hour on Saturday mornings.

Im still convinced that Pirates of Dark Water is what killed Cartoon Network's Cartoon Friday Nights. I remember they said they were going to air the never-before seen ending to PoDW one Friday, but it turned out to just be a huge fakeout. That was also the last new Cartoon Friday i remember seeing, which to me meant that the backlash over this was big enough to can the whole program.
