Great tips for the budget-conscious! I live in a small town, and the thrift-store I frequent for yarn usually has a very small selection, and the prices are all over the place. Sometimes I can snag a good deal, but oftentimes the thrift-store prices are even MORE than what I'd pay for new, d'oh! So I'd caution against going to a thrift-store to buy yarn until you're at least somewhat familiar with the going prices for new yarns.
With that said, my local thrift-store also has an aisle of sweaters for $2-$3 each. That's an AMAZING deal if you're looking for used yarn, because in many cases you can unravel the sweater and walk away with a TON of yarn from each sweater. The downside, of course, is the hassle of unraveling and winding the yarn, but meh. If you come away with 4-6 cakes of super nice yarn from one sweater (including sometimes mohair or even cashmere!) then it's totally worth the extra time involved. But before running to check on thrifted sweater deals, be sure to watch youtube videos on how to unravel them, because not all sweaters are suitable for unraveling, just a heads-up!

Another way to save money 💰 on yarn is find sweaters at thrift stores made from high end fiber (mohair, alpaca, wool, etc.) upcycle the yarn for other projects.

Just found your channel. I get really really good deals at Joann's when they have yarn sales...when you order online for pickup, they usually have an additional amount you can claim with a code that's right where you are told the prices of your items to the right of the screen. Enjoyed your video.

I like to find crocheted blankets at thrift stores and take the blankets apart. I do feel somewhat mad for taking apart the blanket; It’s sad someone’s hard work got put in the thrift store, but I got 4 regular size skeins (like red heart super saver) worth of yarn for only 3 dollars because I got it from that blanket! It’s super easy to take it apart too

The aforementioned Savers is great; in AZ, the Mission associated with a charity is great; St. Vincent de Paul's thrift is great in Oregon and AZ; and any city with rich people is a hidden gem, like Sedona, AZ with a GoodWill. My observations.

Make sure to wash our yarn from thrift stores. I tie them up in nylons, thrkw them in the washer and dryer. I have to do this to all my yarn no matter where I get them. I have an allergic reaction to yarn. That is to lanolin. After the washing of said yarn, I'm fine.
