    It's finally here! I watched Ranma around ten years ago, whatever episodes were available on RUclips. This was the arc that I remember the most vividly, so I was looking forward to seeing it in the remake, and it didn't disappoint.
    Poor Ranma, I felt so bad for him. The following scene made me so smile so much that my cheeks hurt. Watching that scene now that I'm older, I can see it a new light. Ranma explicitly asking for Akane's consent. Because he's aware of how traumatic it is to be kissed without consent and by someone he doesn't even like, and he doesn't want Akane to experience that trauma either. Which is really sweet, but he's so awkward about it that he struggles to get his point across.
    On a funnier note, how is Ryoga alive? Because in his human form, surely that collar would be cutting off his oxygen. Since there is a pretty big difference in the size of a piglets neck in comparison to a human's. Then again, I should just take a page out of everyone else's book and suspend common sense.
    As for Azusa, she just likes to name anything she finds "cute" with French names like Charlotte, François etc.
    Anyways, great reaction, and I'm glad you're enjoying this series. I hope you have a nice day or night whenever you read this ^o^

      Ranma is very much the awkward, blushy-crushy type, who’ll happily bicker with Akane all day long but get all flustered at the idea of maybe… holding hands??? with her??? Very much unlike Ataru Moroboshi, who would hit on anything in a skirt, save the one very possessive girl who was actually after him. (Of course, circumstances occasionally conspire to make Ranma _look_ like a creeper… and in fanfic, Akane tends to get stereotyped as never getting over her bad first impression of him in her bath.)
      And the funny thing is, Ryoga is pretty much the same despite the whole “sleeping in her bed and being snuggled into her chest without her knowing it’s him” bit. Both boys, of course, would deeply resent the notion that they’re at all alike. Or friends.
      Of course, the other thing is, Ranma has experience with Mikado’s type - he met one on his first day at Furinkan. Mikado and Kuno are cut from the same cloth as Shutaro Mendo, convinced they’re God’s gifts to women. And Ranma’s prideful, but not vain in the same way, and he doesn’t want to “score with chicks” the way Mikado so clearly does. He’s _always_ been conscious of Akane’s emotions, even when he doesn’t know how to interpret or react to them, unlike the blockheads who basically ignore them - because honestly, I think what he’s really wanted from day 1 is just… for Akane to smile at him the way she did when they first met and she introduced herself. The way she smiled later on, after he said her new haircut looked nice. Kuno is convinced Akane adores him, despite all evidence - Ranma _wants_ Akane to love him, even though he can’t admit it to himself.
      Which I guess comes back to what you were saying - not only is he himself uncomfortable with kissing (a late bloomer, as Kasumi said), he doesn’t want to kiss her unless he’s sure she wants it. He may not know everything about how to treat a girl, but he’s at least been able to learn from a bad example.

    in the old anime episode, Ranma is in the bathroom in the skate ring, changing into girl and he also throws water on Ryoga, that's why he transforms into P-chan again. Some boys witness that and think the water in the bath is magic and they get wet, hoping to transform, too :D So funny. Also, the animation in the old anime ep, especially this one, is top notch. This is definitely one of the funniest parts in this anime ever :D

  • @tomdouge6618
    @tomdouge6618 5 дней назад +1

    It becomes an established part of Ranma ½ that the Schools of Anything-Goes are expected to accept ANY challenge (and the wager that goes with them). And Genma has had ten years to train the attitude into Ranma. This allows them to keep their battle skills sharp as well as giving them the chance to learn new techniques
    In the first (1989) anime version, filler detail established the blatant klepto preferred to rename (now) 'her' things with French names. Charlotte is more French than Wilbur. Azusa is a totally rich and spoiled 'princess' brat who is used to getting whatever she wants. And because of that, she has no impulse control!
    It's never established, but to me the only reason Mikado would put up with her abuse is because her very rich family pays him to be his partner
    The handsome Mikado was used to being attractive to girls. Abused by Azusa, he needed to 'win' a girl everyday to reassert his masculinity. This didn't make him popular with, say, those in the hockey gear and with marking pens. In the 1989 version, he even counted the number of girls he took a kiss from. The pigtailed girl was his 999th
    Aha! I finally figured it out! (Maybe) The reason Akane doesn't put two-and-two together about Ryoga and P-chan is the magic of the Jusenkyo Curse. It also explains why her family doesn't tell her
    That identity magic also explains people's lack of reaction to the pandda

  • @LegnaiaUnderground
    @LegnaiaUnderground 6 дней назад +2

    A few fun facts:
    - In the old anime only, maleRanma is shown having trouble skating, so he leaves the skating rink. Ryoga immediatly understands his plan to change into a girl and yells at him something like "You coward, stay here and take your share of humiliation like me!"
    - In the manga and in the old anime, when Mikado is puzzled about femRanma crying, Akane thinks "You would be crying too, if a boy kissed you!". It looks like the new anime is altering a few lines to avoid risks of sounding homophobic, like they removed a remark by Nabiki about the kiss "not counting" because they were both boys. It looks like the English dub (and the subs based on it) bring this a little too far at times, even altering Ranma's personality a bit.
    - In the old anime only, when femRanma returns maleRama, a man in the bath asks "Is this a candid camera show? Where's the camera?"
    PS: I find funny how we are the same people following various Ranma reactors, we are posting more or less the same comments on different channels... 🙂

      @gamergod9182 9 дней назад

      well, I hope they don't get paid too much because they are doing a lousy job. for some weird reason, official subbers have this tendency of making up their own dialog half the time thinking they can do better than the original writers or something. I think being a bit loose and changing "unsexy woman" to plain jane is okay, but there are plenty of times where they just completely mistranslate stuff where even I as someone who only knows a few dozen japanese words and phrases can tell it's wrong.

    Ranma may have toxic masculinity behavior (all thanks to his even more toxic father), but good thing he does not forget the importance of consent. I guess that is natural considering the incident which happened without his consent and the humiliation as part of the consequence.

      Kissing was unusual in Japanese culture of Ranma's childhood. But I still cannot see some grandmotherly type kissing the abused boy in order to help comfort him
      Anyway, a true kiss has some loving, romantic or sexual undertone
