      The EU response was: we will take a small bit of a hit, the integrity of the EU is more important than some short term economic damage.
      And brexiteers failed to understand (on top of everything else they fail to understand) that a large part of the UK exporting less goods than it imported from the EU was necessity as the UK didn't have the manufacturing capacity to make those products in the volume required or didn't produce them in the first place. The UK effectively can't produce enough food to sustain its population, and not everyone in the UK wants to drive a Honda Civic, Nissan Qashqai or any car produced by Ford, Land Rover, Jaguar or Vauxhall, some people prefer affordable, reliable, well-equipped vehicles.

    I live in Swindon. I live next door to a Honda worker, ex-Honda worker now, who voted for Brexit. I voted against leaving the EU and we'd had some energetic discussions about the subject in the last few years. We spoke a few days ago and he was complaining about the difficulties in finding a new job and the various other brexit issues that were now affecting him. The other reason that Nissan is still hanging about in Sunderland, apart from those government cheques, is the fact over 60% of Qashqai sold across Europe are bought here, in the UK. So, it only makes sense for them to keep production in the UK, for as long it makes financial sense to them.

    Japanese automotive businesses are in my experience, exceptional in that they RESPECT their workers and see them as their major strategic resource. As an industry insider, it was painful to see them stab their bosses in the back by voting leave. I do not think they knew any better because they live in the poisoned British media bubble. Massive numbers of people are easy to manipulate into voting against their own interest by pushing buttons on themes that make people scared or angry.

    • @MauriceBiermans
      @MauriceBiermans 3 года назад

      You are right about Nissan. Gov support is necessary to offset the post-brexit higher operating cost in the highly cost-competitive automotive industry. Also, consumer prices will rise by some 5% due to loss of frictionfree trade with the neighboring nations. This in turn will provoke wage strikes at Nissan in the coming years. Post-brexit, wages will be under pressure to be kept low and workers rights will be stripped further in order to keep the cost of work lower in order to maintain the competitiveness of exports. There is no way exporting firms can stay competitive if they give in to wage demands that are legitimate and needed to support the higher cost of living. This is a major reason why Brexit economist Patrick Minford said "You have to run down manufacturing and agriculture, like you have done with the coalmines." Capice?

    • @MauriceBiermans
      @MauriceBiermans 3 года назад

      Oh, I forgot to mention exchange rate risk. It hurts every exporting company. Increases cost of operation by 2% or more. And it makes profits unpredictable. Exchange rates are for a few of my former customers in international manufacturing the ONLY reason to set up manufacturing INSIDE the zone where they sell most of their product. So if you sell most in the USA you want to pay suppliers in USD and be paid by customers in USD. Same for EUros. Nobody mentions Xchange rates yet but they knaw away at the majority of manufacturing exporters. I expect exchange rates of the GPB to become more volatile (bad thing, constant is good for business) and even be used politically (short boost for economy to win election, long term harm industries).

    Cornwall is a deprived area because so many of the housing are people second homes so they do not bring income into the local communities in small shops supermarkets and other retail stores because they only visit a few weeks every year. 51.89% of Cornwall voted for Brexit. Cutting your nose off to spite your face rings a big bell for this one. Cornwall gets more funding than anywhere else in Britain: the county has received more than £1bn of aid from the EU over the past 15 years, and was due a further £400m more by 2020. This works out as more than €1000 per person. West Wales was also set to receive more than €1000 per person in EU funding by 2020. The Government has said they will not be honouring what they were given from the EU.

    No. 1
    INEOS is producing a nice off-roader car the „Grenadier“ in true spirit of the old Land Rover Defender, in France 🇫🇷
    No. 2
    The UK 🇬🇧 government was sending letters to German drivers, who got their license before ˋ99 , because then you where allowed to drive a truck up to 7,5 tons (sorry don’t know how many stones that is) 🤪… sending letters to German drivers and asking the, to come over and work as truck drivers in the UK 🇬🇧

    In conclusion… you know it’s bad, when our British Cousins asking Germans for help 😜

    It can be said louder but it cannot be said clearer... Brexit has been a disgrace! Your comments are spot on. Some Tories (not all followed the brexit crap) should paid by not being elected. Keep going and thanks for your vids.

    Funny thing is that many conservatives claim that they are Christians and they keep voting for Tories. What Bible writes? Mathew 7:17-20:
    "... Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them."
    It is clearly written that you judge by results. Decades of Tory government lead to austerity, raised inequality, real estate prices growth, health care system got worse, etc. etc.
    But people keep voting Tories. This is beyond me.
    BTW, I am atheist but still, one of the management principles is: "past performance is a good predictor of the future performance". :)

    Saying it's because of racism is lazy,and in fact people saying that is the reason the vote went the way it did

    • @0cypher0
      @0cypher0 3 года назад +1

      Once you've asked the vast majority of leave voters five or so questions about their reasons why they voted the way they did and debunk the nonsense they come up with, the last remaining thing they tend to cling onto tends to be "too many foreigners". Though this is more xenophobia, nationalism or jingoism than racism in its utterance, what they mostly try to avoid saying but really mean is "too many black and brown faces and languages I don't understand".

      Ofc you can provide evidence for your claim from ... say ... before 2016. Like more than 5 years ago.
      If a company decided to close down a plant, they don't wait more than 5 years to do so. That would be a waste of money, so you need to back your claim about LONGGGGG before Brexit vote up with evidence. Even more so, as your LONGGGGG claim sounds like years before. So 10 years ago? 15? Provide a proof or stop pretending you know what you talk about; because what you say is not how the _real_ world works.

      Long before?? Ah so that why they invested £200m in 2015 and decided to build the at that time new 5 doors civic not only for UK and Europe but for Japan as well?? Where is the logic in that? It was the Honda that got the fist in their stomach with the referendum.

    • @narinderchander
      @narinderchander 3 года назад +3

      Why would they? Honda is an international company and it's in their interests to be present of all the trading blocks of the world. If you're not in one then tough titty - you have to pay for them to remain in your third country status.

    And u have to pay Nissan, all their brexit related costs. U could directly pay the workers, it’s not a real benefit for the country. And what most don’t know about the Japan trade deal, first,u don’t export a lot anyway, and u r only get the leftovers from the EU, if the EU uses their whole export quoters they agreed on, u get nothing left to export. The 20k drivers already found other jobs, the EU is big and no borders or 🚢. Germany alone could use 20k more drivers. And they have to do nothing to get there or live there

    I miss my home town but not what its become. Between SBC and our missing MPs the place has gone to shit. The same people who trashed the town also said leaving the EU was a good idea. Buckland and Tomlinson met with the Honda response group twice in the space of five years. I get why people voted leave, they were promised that it would be the answer to all their imagined fears. What I cannot understand is why those people are still following the people who lied to them? Is it really just to enable racists? Love and respect Swindon.
