This case back had CLEARLY been prepared for the purpose of this video. I'd like to see him try using a ball with a very tight case back and see how far he gets.
Took inspiration from the first part of the video to open the back of the watch. Instead of the stress ball, used one of the 3M picture hanging tapes (the adhesive end). Worked like a charm, and no scratches.
Thank you. I've finally been able to to remove the back. I wore thick leather gloves and finally had to resort to using a pair of vice grips on the needle nose pliers to exert the torque necessary to loosen the back. It had been secured by a watchsmith ; a very strong one! Finding one these days is like looking for super 8 tapes.
Thank you! Now I know which way watches needed to be opened. But I have a tip..Put a cloth underneath the scissors to prevent your watch from getting scratched! I did it and it worked just fine!
Well I owe YOU an apology - I thought this was dumb as hell... but it actually worked! I used the rubber ball, and previously NOTHING worked. I even soaked the watch overnight in liquid wrench (for removing old/tight/rusted parts), and still nothing. Rubber ball? Well, I had to really crank on it, but it actually came right off. Kudos. So yeah, before I put a negative review or a thumbs down, I'll at least TRY it, and lo and behold, it worked fantastic. KUDOS TO YOU!
Thank you for this! I was just able to open mine with pliers and have something to add: cover the plate with masking tape first to avoid scratches. Works like a charm. Also, placing it facedown on a non-slip mat (like a silicone kitchen trivet or silicone baking mat) makes it easier. Unfortunately, my watch is still broken but at least I didn't waste any money on a tool to open it :)
I really cannot believe it. I have been sitting up here with 3 watches that have been dead for at least a year because I could not figure out how to get the backs off of them to change the battery. I don't know why I never found this video before, but I happened upon it just now. I was mad skeptical at first. Yeah I saw that you were able to do it, but I doubted whether I could get the same results. Nevertheless, I found me a pair a scissors and tried it on one of my watches and low and behold, the scissors trick worked. It was tricky because I used the tips of a large pair of scissors to open my watch and my grip kept slippin. But on the third try I managed to get it off without making any major scratches. I am quite pleased. Thanks a bunch for posting this video. At this time I am trying to save money any way I can so I am grateful that this video helped saved me some. Thanks. :D
Great video. I’ve had my Nixon watch for over 15 years and never been able to take the back off myself despite many failed attempts. I used the scissors technique and in a few tries I got it to loosen.. and close to snipping my fingers a couple times in process so be careful if trying!
The needle-nosed pliers did the trick for me. Just be careful not to let them slip and scratch the back of your watch. I looked at using some dull-pointed scissors, but they seemed more likely to scratch the back. In my case, the nubby ends of the needle-nose pliers fit the notches on my watch nearly perfectly. I wouldn't have used this method on an expensive or heirloom watch, of course.
OMG thank you so much. I have tried with the right tools and could not get it to come off. I also tried needle nose pliers and couldn't get that to work for me. The kids scissors worked GREAT!!! Thank you Thank you
Learn something new everyday. I would take a plastic prying tool with a very small end on in it and stick it in one of the notches. Then lightly tap the plastic tool with a hammer to unscrew the back.
OMG so happy I fell on you, I have a Swiss watch that I haven't worn in years not wanting to go to a jewlers, CAUSE of you I was able to do ot on my own. Thxs🙋😊
This Wouldn't work on most diver watches, particularly those with five meter plus water resistance, takes a special tool, they're very tight to keep water out ,and should be done by a professional or you could void your warranty if any
Our watches have too many scratches despite the fact that the watch master changes the batteries. I like the rubber ball trick😁 Thank you for sharing your wisdom with us🙏
I cant believe I did not watch this until now. I will never pay to have a watch replaced again on a watch, ever, unless maybe its a rolex, but otherwise I'm doing it from now on. Thanks for the video.
Real watchmakers use a rubber ball too, only instead of a cheap yellow rubber cricket ball it’s designed to be gripper so you don’t have to press as much and can get it tighter
I bought a case wrench just for this and I could not get one of my watches opened. It was totally stuck. Then I tried the scissors with a lot of pressure and it worked!
Very simple solution to removing the back of an Ice watch. I knew there was a reason to save an old pair of kid's scissors. The replacement battery that I used was a Rayovac 376/377.
I'm sad to see all these hate comments. If it wasn't for this video I'd have had to pay a professional to help me open my watch. I found a wide enough pair of pliers and that worked perfectly. If you are a person who is worried about scratching the back of your watch, or just in general if it's a pricey watch or you don't trust yourself not to scratch it, just go to a professional. don't be stingy.
Excellent suggestion! I've been trying numerous suggestions on removing very frozen back cover. I used the rubber ball trick. I found a tennis ball, cut some of the felt off to expose the rubber and after about a minute and a lot of pressure the back unscrewed! Thanks!
I have a Fossil watch with a screw off back that someone gave me. Unfortunately, none of the above worked on it. The back is on way too tight. But it's good to know these methods for my other watches. Good video.
It so effective. Thanks for this Video the Second of Option to use Scissors i applied. Thanks for this Creativity or Life Hacks . Less Money, Less Hustle.
I find that if I tack weld a 1/2 peice elof rebar onto the case it comes off easy with vise grips. You need to grind off and polish after but very effective!
I didn’t have a small pair of scissors like in the video, so I used my garden shears,!!!!!! after I came back from A&E to get my hand sewed back on I was ok.. and my watch worked great.. lol
I opened mine with a Micrometer, the straight kind - not the circular kind. It's screwed on very tight but there are a lot of common tools you can use to open these. I would just put some silly putty on the watch, or plastic on the tips of the tool otherwise it might get scratched if you are using metal.
Think you meant Vernier guage as they do a similar job to a micrometer but a micrometer's a different design and you would have one helluva hard time trying to take a watch caseback off with one. You'd probably have an easier time of it with a claw hammer or Wellington boot than you would with a micrometer. Whereas: a Vernier caliper; I can pretty much see where you're coming from. Way to fuck up a Vernier, though.
Thanks so much for this! I thought I was doing it wrong but just as a tip need to apply quite a bit of force initially to get it moving. All the oher videos showing a watch wrench asif people just have that lying about at home XD
This case back had CLEARLY been prepared for the purpose of this video. I'd like to see him try using a ball with a very tight case back and see how far he gets.
He said in the video how tight the back was originally.
Took inspiration from the first part of the video to open the back of the watch. Instead of the stress ball, used one of the 3M picture hanging tapes (the adhesive end). Worked like a charm, and no scratches.
I have those with me, what did you attach those to? Or which ends of the watch?
If you’re talking about the mounting tape…. That’s purely genius man. I’m going to try that.
@@GasGotti Think they are called 'Command' or some such. One side sticky, other side velcro.
@@neilshastri1184 thanks so much for the info. Appreciate you
Thanks man! I had some 2mm rubber with a 3m tape. Came off so easy.
Thanks!-the scissors worked.I first put the watch into a thin latex glove to protect it from scratches. :)
Thank you.

No scissors so I tried hedge clippers. Now I have no hand and watch keeps falling off?!?
ah well no arm done then fpmsl
Haha so funny beast joke Shahs who did this
Put it on the other arm! Problem solved.
alan ash 😆😆😆😆😆😆
Alan Ash, that's funny stuff! Thank you for sharing with us!
The next video must be How To Remove Scratches from Your Watch Back.
Hahaha
Barry
Made my day! Brilliant comment :)
Great comment Barry! I will definitely watch the Remove Scratches video! I'll need it!
Barry Moyer easy

Any hammer-type tool will work to open Fossil watches, 2 lb sledge is best.
Benjamin Maddox Just remember to buy some spare parts in form of a new Fossil.
@@miskatonic6210 Just remember to buy spare parts in the form of a watch that isn't horseshit like Fossil.
Honestly cause i need to change my fossil battie & my ftiebd does it normaly been not availible...really that much harder...
Lmao xddd
Throwing them off a building rooftop works as well

I happen to have a little stress ball right next to me when I watched this, and it worked! Thanks bro
Ball method worked perfectly
i found the rubber ball method ridiculous at first but it actually worked 😄 cheers man
I used the scissors method and it work perfectly.
You da man!!!!!!!
This was PERFECT!!! I totally used my dog's Kong to get my watch open just now and swapped the battery with ease. Thank you!!
The needle-nosed pliers did the trick for me. Just be careful not to let them slip and scratch the back of your watch. I looked at using some dull-pointed scissors, but they seemed more likely to scratch the back. In my case, the nubby ends of the needle-nose pliers fit the notches on my watch nearly perfectly. thank you very much, it helped a lot , good vid, and straight to the point.
Scissors helped me out. No scratches neither. Thanks
The rubber ball method worked surprisingly easily. Brilliant!
OMG thank you so much. I have tried with the right tools and could not get it to come off. I also tried needle nose pliers and couldn't get that to work for me. The kids scissors worked GREAT!!! Thank you Thank you
Just tried the rubber ball method and , surprisingly, it worked !!
I tried the scissors method. I lost three fingers but it was worth it-my watch finally works! Thanks!
Learn something new everyday. I would take a plastic prying tool with a very small end on in it and stick it in one of the notches. Then lightly tap the plastic tool with a hammer to unscrew the back.
In a pinch the scissors worked!!! Thank you!!! 1 litttle scratch on the back, but no biggie!!
My watch guy tightened my vintage omega's caseback so tight I can't loosen it. Good upload!
You are a pure genius, i used the rubber ball with my watch and it works! Thank you so much!!!
Thanks,I got a pulsar couldn't figure out. Now I know. Subscribed.
I used a suction cup from an iFixit kit. It didn't apply any suction because of the shape of the watch, but applying pressure and rotating worked.
Couldn't figure out how in the world to open my watch. Watched your video today and used scissors and it worked great. Thank you very much!
I used a tennis ball and duck tape, and it wurked. Your rubber ball gave me the idea tho, so i subbed. Thanx buddy.
I used the kids scissors to loosen the back of my Seiko. So easy. Thanks for the suggestion
Needle nosed pliers work best if the case is on tight [Jewelers Secret] Oh and Semper Fi...
Excellent. Thank you. The needle nose pliers worked PERFECTLY without a scratch.

ευχαριστώ. Ξέχασα την περίπτωση με το ψαλίδι. Συγχαρητήρια. Γρίβας Δημήτριος.
It was obviously already loose. That wouldn't work usually because the backs are screwed on pretty tight
Exactly
Nope, rubber ball works! Got mine open really easy!
Not with a rubber ball, but with pliers it works...it's really hard to get the right grip, but it works.
This Wouldn't work on most diver watches, particularly those with five meter plus water resistance, takes a special tool, they're very tight to keep water out ,and should be done by a professional or you could void your warranty if any

Thank you for the scissors method easy no scratches saved me 25 quid for a battery change cheers ! 😁
The scissors worked like charm. Thanks buddy.
Thank you, I used a set of tweezers to open twist open the watch back. The key is to Apple enough downward pressure when twisting.
give this guy some award.

The pliers worked great. I was able to switch out the batteries on both of my Swiss Legend Neptune watches. Thanks!
I guess you're a Sinn fan too 😉
Brilliant and very well done video. I was able to replace the battery in my 10 year old Lorus. Thank you.

not for me on a Citizen watch

The scissors worked great! My grandfather's watch was stuck fast and it broke my heart not to get it working again. Thank you!
The rubber ball did it on the first try!!! Genius
