It's not normal treatment. But he is a normal person who has take the robes and vows of a monk. You are showing respect due to his position in the Sangha.

John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
1 Corinthians 15:3 that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.
Romans 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

I respect anyone's choices towards any religion......You should not have to force religion upon anyone. It is bad enough that many do, and many use the excuse of "spreading the word". You should be ashamed of yourself for doing that, especially when someone already has a religion, has not asked you about yours, and is just familiarizing others on how to act respectfully when meeting them. I think you need to look at the lack of respect you are showing to others, and the excuses you use to do so.
That is how I feel about your "comment"
