    Oh my word! That log is huge! Impressed by the Laguna to hold that! I also have a Laguna 18/36 and was worried when I put a log almost half that size on it. Now I Have a lot more confidence in my Laguna! great job! Beautiful work!

      Thanks Philip, the lathe is more than capable of turning something of this size, just bring the speed up slowly until you see a wobble and back it off a touch. Stand to the side though :)

    Outstanding work there Matt, just an word of caution, unless you under power LED tape it really needs to be install onto some sort of aluminium profile as this acts as a heat sink for the LED's which do generate quite a bit of heat & without a heat sink or being under powered their lifespan will be drastically shortened.

    OMG!!! That was freaking AWESOME!!! You started with such a large piece of source material, I was wondering if it would even fit on your lathe. HA! Looked like a 50 to 100-year-old chunk of a tree right there. HA! ...but that finished product was more amazing than I could have EVER imagined!!! WOW! Thank you so much for sharing, as that was absolutely outstanding!

    This is a brilliant design! Only thing I would do in addition would be to add a translucent film right behind the slatted part. That way you won't see any of the led strips. Not meant to be in anyway a smart-ass criticism. Just my observation is all. I am always in awe of your design creativity.

    You keep on improving every time.
    I have a challenge for you - You are realy good making speakers. How about a round floorstanding speaker? Like the size of that lamp. With room for a sub at the bottom and more speakers around. You like Visaton so maybe like the fontana series from them. Only rounder and with full artistical freedom, No doubt better 😁 Just a thought👍🤞 Cheers.

    • @MattJordanWoodturning
      @MattJordanWoodturning  Год назад +1

      Speaker being made at the moment from a large root, will be floor standing. I will check out the range of speakers you mentioned, I was going to use Tang Band but I'll will see what the volumes are like 👍

    How long did it take you to make this lamp?
    I turn wood myself [way less professional than you :( haha] and it already takes a good while to make pieces of about 40 cm turn true. With something this large you must have had some pacience!
    Keep up the good work, I really like your videos! Thanks for sharing!

    • @MattJordanWoodturning
      @MattJordanWoodturning  2 года назад +1

      Thanks Dave, the top and bottom didn't take that long, the middle section was a few hours of alignment and glue up, if I was to do another one I would use a slightly different technique making the middle section, after thoughts are a wonderful thing..
