Making a Guitar from Scrap Wood

- Most of the guitar is made from reclaimed pieces of wood from an old piano I was given this year. Difficult to identify some woods but the main body of the guitar is made from Green Heart, the neck could be Maple but I'm not 100% on this. The only new wood was some African Rosewood I added to the neck, and the Cherry Plum pieces for the top of the body.
First time building a Guitar, so a steep learning curve, lots more I would have liked to have done but time was short trying to fit this in around other work.

Beautiful work. Love watching layered Wood, it's like Damascus for wood.
It is impossible to believe what you can do. I don't watch other wood artists, only you Matt. I believe you are a genius. Thank you.
Excellent work Let's hear her sing👍👍👍 . Thank you for sharing. Be safe 🇨🇦
BS'D
OMG!!!! Matt, I have been watching you for years....BUT THIS BLEW MY MIND!!!
No words....OMG!
That is a work of art!! ❤
Truly amazing and inspiring, well done! Stay safe
This is amazing, you have such Skills Matt!
Wow what an incredible build, dude you have made an awesome masterpiece
Я мало что понимаю в музыке, но из старого пианино сделать современную гитару? Это достойно восхищения. Браво Мэтт!!! Моё уважение и многократный лайк👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
What a great build! Good recovery from the error also.
Senza parole 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👌👍
Wow that's incredible. Initially I thought it was decorative. I'm glad that I wrong.
In the GGBO23! Nice work 👏
That's awesome that you made a guitar from reused wood.
Matt! As always, supreme craftsmanship, and such original thinking! Just amazing!!
Beautiful!
Love that top. Beautiful build.
Thank you!
I love the idea of using an old, unusable, musical instrument to build a new one... keeping the spirit alive in a new form.
Just love this, absolutely amazing build and great detail. That patch you match works nice as well. Beautiful, thanks for sharing.
Beautiful Matt.
Nice "T" style guitar. Great job! That would look great in my collection. 😉
And the music lives on…..
Hi and congratulations on your guitar creation, Matt! This one took you over the top! I wonder how long this took to plan out up to completion. So much thought had to go into this, besides skill. Again, Congratulations! 🙌
Absolutely amazing, Matt. Words can't describe how impressed I am. Your talents are endless. About 4 minutes in, I was thinking guitar, and then I read the video description. Just WOW.
Bill
Thanks Bill
Looks good.
😮 nice job
Woah Matt! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Great job, man)))
I'm not sure about the baby blue, but the top is awesome. Very nice safe after the CNC mishap. Really cool guitar.
While it does have a shape and style that's very similar, it definitely looks a lot cooler than your run of the mill Telecaster.
Absolutely beautiful, but personally I liked the look of the wood in the back. But that's just me.
I'm really impressed. This man actually designed and hand made a beautiful guitar. Your craftsmanship is so much more than woodturning, which didn't even come up in this video! I don't know a thing about guitar pricing, but if you sell that, I think it should be worth at least $10000 if it plays perfectly.
So, you think you own enough clamps? Lol
Thanks, always in the market for more clamps 😁
Without reading the title at first, I was wondering what you are building until you glued the pieces to the headstock. And then I thought we're probably watching the same RUclips Channel dedicated to building guitars. But yeah GGBO2023 gives it away! This is one nicely crafted Guitar!
Have you build a Guitar before? Your work on this instrument is really impressive
Thanks, first one I've made
This would've been ingenius if you'd made 100 guitars before it. As a FIRST guitar, it is transcendent. The only choice I didn't like is the blue for the bottom half of the body. For my taste it undermines the natural look of the rest of the guitar and before I watched the video I actually thought the blue was a similar material as Ovations used for their acoustics (i.e., the paint looks plastic).Loved your fix for the measuring miscalculation. The cross-cut limb top is absolutely sensational. SUCH a great idea. Loved the sped up drilling for tuners being a different note for each one, very musical and a nice sound nugget. The fretboard phoenix is excellent (if that's your personal logo you might consider moving it to the headstock for a really great ID). I'm definitely going to buy tickets for this build. Is the guitar very heavy? it did seem so visually with all the layers of wood. No matter, it is exceptional. Well done.
Thanks, the Phoenix is there to represent the guitars made from recycled material, kind of rising from the ashes
Looks great, Matt! How does it sound?
I got about the same amount of green poplar out on old piano recently as well! Used it on an intarsia project.
Nice save on the top! Any footage of you when you first realised your mistake? I imagine your initial reaction would have breached a few of YTs rules!
Thanks, I ran through a certain part of the English vocabulary..
That looks so good. Good no awesome thinking on the spot to fix that. Two questions though. 1 is it like fully functional or like works a little or is it just for display. 2 what does a piece like that cost? Love what you do keep up the hard work
Fully functioning, this was done for charity. As for cost there was about 80 hours in this for me, so you tell me what's that worth plus materials?
its appears thick to me is it standard size, even the neck looks big
Hurts my shoulder just looking at it. Beautiful work, though.
It's also a self defence item
................where are you from?!!! This is just incredible, such imagination and such skill. Matt, I bet your classmates hated you when the Science fair came around. "And first place goes to, winning since kindergarten, Matt-Gyver!" 👏👏👏👏👏 AWESOME work, sir. 👏👏👏👏👏
Beautifully done guitar, would have loved to hear how it sounded.
So much work and a beautiful guitar came out of it! ❤
Looks very cool and the wife loves it!!! Beautiful guitar Matt!!!
I enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
If I had made that mistake I would have felt absolutely defeated - major props for hanging in there and thinking of such an elegant solution!
Never give up!
Muito show!!!!
Que obra linda!
Eu amei demais Matt. Parabens trabalho maravilhoso 😍 que Deus o abençoe hoje e sempre.
Mr. Matt, this has got to be one of your most involved creations. Absolutely phenomenal!! Hopefully, you do well in the Great Guitar Build Off!! From across the pond in the US, most excellent job!!
That was awesome! That guitar looks amazing sir 👍
I always wanned a bass with a body made from natural wood and resin. Now that I see you makin a guitar, prepare for an order in about 4 years from now 👀😄
Love the guitar! Personally I dislike the blue, but that comes down to personal taste. Nice work!
Amazing job my friend congratulations 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Way cool idea!
Great presentation!
Cheers from Texas!
🤘😺🤘
Michael
such beautiful work Matt.... peace and love... happy holidays and aloha from hawaii 😊🤙🙏🌴🎄🎅🎄
Stunning guitar, Matt! What an amazing work!!! 😮
Beautiful won't describe it!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
And happy holidays! 🖖😊
Excellent build. And while that blue on the back of the body is very well done... not the color I'd pick. It kind of clashes with the rest of the instrument. You got the ebony finger board, the sparkle black resin in the gaps on the cap. Going with a black on the back of the body is kind of a no-brainer to me. I really like how the cap turned out with the cross sections of the trunk. Cool stuff.
A new stringed instrument created from an old one. Exquisite!
truly enjoyed watching. thank you for including the mistake and the fix
I don't usually like it when woodworkers bring out the epoxy but I love that you used coffee grounds and didn't make it blue. ❤
I am always affraid when I see people who are not in the instrument making craft make videos of their attempts but this one seems to come out nicely (the freting was reassuring to be honest). That thing must weight a ton though...
Thank you for not making a classical guitar as it is a whole other craft.
You should change your name to Matt Woodworth, or Matt Trower (sounded like Robin at the end). 😎👍
Fantastic👌👍
I've been watching for years and I think today is the first time I've ever heard your voice!
I honestly would've liked it better without the color, but it's a pretty neat build, sir. good job 👍
Wow Matt, that's one awesome Guitar. You ROCK man. 🎸
A beautiful guitar you made from plum and cherry wood.
how much wood a guitar like that cost?
That’s a beautiful project.
Qell , that is absolutely gorgeous. ❤❤❤😊😊
Aaw! wanted to see it being played! :) Nicely done.
Thanks For Sharing
Even you have to use all of your equipment
From one instrument into another! Cool.
Looks amazing. You are a baaaaad man. 👊😁
That is just awesome Matt.🎸🎶🙂
Awesome job, Matt!
Beautiful guitar Matt
🌬 ~🔥
How long did you work on it Matt?? Was this made for yourself Matt?
Made for a charity event, and about 80 hours
Genius work.
Wow, well done you!
when we will see you playing it?
Will try and do a short demo
nicely done!
That's hawt 😁👍
So much hard work went into this. I really appreciate you sharing this with us. Beautiful!
Very nice
I was sitting in front of the screen and thinking: "Come on... Come on... 😲 Oh, come on...!" 🤯
Ladies and Gentlemen, Matt Jordan has just casually built a new instrument out of another instrument - even including discussing a mistake that has happened! 🤩 And it is another piece of art that will hopefully last for decades.
Matt, I really admire the dedication to your work because that once again is just beautiful! 👌🏼💪🏼✨
Thank you
Matt, what a beauty! The end cut top and the filigree pieces for the electronics are an amazing combination. I missed the opportunity for the drawing, bummer. Just wanted to say, Incredible designs and workmanship.
Thank you very much!
❤❤
!!!
I'm so used to the wood turning, I just clicked to watch the video without reading the title. I kept asking myself, "how's he going to turn this? Looks a lot more like he's building a guitar..." 😂 Nice build!
Thanks, this was all new to me too! 😁
And I'm back! Duuuuude! That's a sick guitar. I may have chosen a color that worked more with the natural color of the top but that's just personal preference, 5/5 on this man, well done!
Thank you
I’m always impressed with your work, and this…this is just AMAZING!!!
Question? How do you keep coming up with ideas for different projects? Like how do you do it?
Thinking time...
Matt, brilliant job as ever, even the error made it all the better. What was the red wood used in the neck? I'm sure it's the same stuff I used recently in some turning projects. No idea what it is though.
Thanks, it was African Rosewood
I did not realize that they built pianos out of Poplar. Unless that is some other kind of wood that is exclusive to the United Kingdom.
It's green heart mainly, no poplar wood
Hi Matt you have madeca magnificent electric guitar I lkve well done you truly are an excellent artist. Amanda xx
Thanks Amanda
I love your work, but pleeeeease stop ruining your builds by painting the beautiful wood with these ugly paint colors!
I like the paint colour, it was used to hide the fact the guitar was made from recycled wood. Otherwise there would be old screw holes visible
What was the point of the toothpicks in the fret board?
Hold it in place so it's aligned when you glue it, otherwise it would slip out of place
How many hours did this take you, and how many days did you work on it?
Estimate would be about 80 hours, first guitar so there was a lot of standing about thinking about how I'm going to do things..
Good job. Is this your first guitar build?
Thanks, it is
Took me a few minutes but once it clicked, I got REEEEEEALLY excited to finish this one. Gonna come back and comment when I finish watching.
