  • (Part 1) The Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra presents “The Orchestra Moves” to Walton and Okaloosa County 4th graders as part of the national “Link Up” program in collaboration with Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute. The NFSO was the first orchestra in the region, in the 2012-2013 season, to partner with Carnegie Hall to bring the series of innovative interactive concerts to area youth and is the only group to present “The Orchestra Moves” which feature dancers from Northwest Florida State College performing in conjunction with the NFSO, as well as the 4th grade students participating in making the music, playing the recorder or violin, at the interactive concert held in the Mainstage Theater of the Mattie Kelly Arts Center at Northwest Florida State College in Niceville. This video is from the region's first "Orchestra Moves" concert in 2014 with the NFSO. In 2017, on May 1 & 2, the NFSO will present a reprise of "The Orchestra Moves" to more than 2,500 4th grade students. Contact Jeffrey Rink, NFSO Music Director & Conductor at rinkj@nwfsc.edu or (850) 729-6023 for more information about participating as a school or sponsor.
The two “Link Up” concerts are the culmination of a yearlong hands-on music curriculum through which the NFSO’s Education Coordination works with Okaloosa and Walton County music teachers throughout the school year to help guide students in exploring music through a composer’s lens. The finale of the yearlong program is a live performance in which students have the opportunity to play along with the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra and experience a concert at an authentic performing arts venue.
