as someone that has also seen a total eclipse ( a long time ago) it truly is a magical moment, unlike any other. highly recommend anyone to make sure they get to witness one at some point
You're good at making things you find interesting interesting to hear about. This video has confirmed that you're one of those people who I enjoy listening to pretty much regardless of what the subject is. Looking forward to seeing what you upload!
To this day I turn my head and make toolman "uerrrhh" grunt sounds whenever I see an artillery piece or an old tank in the wild. Had no idea you were so interested in WW1 hardware, tons of cool stuff out there. The engineering for so much of it is incredible, the way they were figuring things out and trying to improve with each iteration.
Hey! J'espère que t'as apprécié ton temps au Québec! Je te suggère de faire un détour par Tadoussac la prochaine fois que tu viens. C'est mon village natal et un des beaux de la province! Cheers!
I have to say, I don't think my French got any better since my stay! 😆 I had to run it through a translator, but I'll add Tadoussac to my list next time I head out that way!
The theme for 'Stickin Around' in the background is great, I'd love to welcome you to Ottawa one day! "iiiiiit's the summer of slug!" (IIIt's the summer of slug)
I lived in MTL for half a year, just before the pandemic, and absolutely loved it. So much public art everywhere, and the Metro... I'm glad you enjoyed your visit!
YES!!!!! TERRITORIES REFERENCE! Power Windows might be my second favorite album next to Hemispheres. Love to know my favorite lego fan is also a rush fan!
Not normally one for travel vlog type stuff myself, but this emphasis on place over the personality of the one filming is a nice change of pace, made all the nicer by a very pleasant earworm of a theme tune.
Neither am I, if I'm honest - don't worry, travel vlog stuff is not going to be the bread and butter of this channel. We're still going to be talking about LEGO a lot over here! 😊
I was lucky enough to see the eclipse somewhere in the path of totality, and it truly was one of the most surreal experiences I've ever had. Way cooler than I was expecting. You really captured it all here, including the shocking cold.
Don't worry, we can transporter clone all the Captain Kirks we need. We can probably run through a few solar systems before someone starts to notice, too.
I drove up from Mass to Plattsburgh, New York to see the eclipse from totality. However, I decided to come hove via I-89 in Vermont but didn't anticipate the worst traffic ever (literally 20hrs of backup on I-89) and had to meander home in the most roundabout route that used New England "Interstate" highways that were designated before the US Numbered Highway System, taking 4hrs up and 8hrs back down. Was worth it, would do it again
Wow, you've just solved one of the most enduring mysteries of my life. When I was a child, some time around 2000, I randomly saw that Star Trek scene you mentioned with the planet blowing up on cable TV. I had no idea what it was, and it gave me nightmares for months about the end of the world. I remembered it vividly. Now, finally, 24 years later, I have learned what I saw on TV that day. Thank you! I should watch it so I can finally get context on what's actually going on in that scene. I always thought that the bad guy won, that blowing up the earth was his goal and that it was the end of the movie.
Whoa!! I did not expect to give you such a revelation when I made this video! The scene is from "Star Trek: Generations" - it's not the best Star Trek movie, but I also don't think it's the worst. 😅 Good luck!
I was in Montreal for 2 summers as an exchange student, I really love Montreal as a city. Fascinated with the fact the Montreal Metro is Trains on rubber wheels. And the Jazz and the food. I want to go back to Montreal now, it has been like 30 years ...
I drove up to Montreal once when I was going to college in Boston. You were spot on about the food up there. Great gastropub scene as well. Did you make it to the olympic stadium area? I remember they have a cool biodome there with several different simulated biomes and their respective animals.
I definitely had some great food when I was in Canada (some of the trip was in Quebec) a year or so ago. One of the places I also would have ordered a second round of if I hadn't already ordered other things (which also turned out great).
So glad you slugged out for the eclipse! I felt so lucky to see it. Totally a bucket list tick for me. My wife said she was going to skip the eclipse and just work. She said "thats not really my thing". I (figuratively) dragged her iut of the house saying "today, it is your thing". And yeah, coming from Calgary, the food here is unreal! Canada is a wonderfully vast country
Good on you for encouraging your wife to see it too! I feel bad for the folks who had to miss it because of work and whatnot - what a once in a lifetime experience it was! Oh man, the food was so freaking good. It's been hard coming back to my Calgary slop, hahaha. 😅
Totality was AMAZING, right?! I saw it too, totally clear sky! We were shockingly nearby each other Slugger. I guess that makes it even cooler in hindsight. No photo makes it seem real, it was transcendent
Completely with you on the fascination with WW1 new tech old tactics Funnily enough I think johnny thunder first got me into it he was a war veteran and I would try and figure out what kinda vehicle the scorpion tracker was based on and my best guess would be the ford model t patrol car used between 1916 and 19 in Egypt
The music already feels like a theme song and it's very pleasant to listen to. Not sure what kind of music theory magic you applied but it works really well! 😋
The glasses for lil’slugger are so cute. Also: loved the dr Soran reference for the eclipse. I’m sure traveling to catch it kinda felt like his grand plan indeed ☺️
Oh yeah, the eclipse. That was certainly... something that happened. One of the celestial events of all time. 👍 (Though I will admit, it getting as dark as early evening at 3 in the afternoon in April was kinda cool to experience).
This video came out at a great time! I've been talking with some friends about maybe going to Montreal on a road trip from New England. Any chance you could share some of those restaurants you went to so I could try to work them into my trip? Upstairs seems like a great addition for us. Also I totally agree about the eclipse, just an insane experience altogether. Me and some friends drove up to Vermont to see it and even if we were in bumper to bumper stop and go traffic for 6 hours, it was incredibly worth it and I feel bad for anyone who won't be able to see a total eclipse in their life. Really just an awe inspiring and somewhat terrifying experience.
Honestly, I didn't have a single bad meal in Montreal, and I don't think I lucked out or anything - I think the standards are just so high! Bagel St Lo was an awesome place to have breakfast every day, and I went to a lot of great hot dog places downtown for lunch. There was an amazing Korean restaurant that I ate at, but the name escapes me now, sorry. Needless to say though, I don't think you can go wrong with food in Montreal. No wonder there were hardly any fast food places there - the competition was so high!
Glad you had an epic trip, hope to see more videos of your real life shenanigans soon :D (The music also reminds of old 90's cartoon theme songs, i love it)
"Obviously media loves the good guys bad guys narrative of the second world war, but I personnaly..." that sentence could have gone in such a wildly different direction, phew
No, it’s not. It’s a *total* eclipse, and believe me, the experience is nothing alike. While partial eclipses happen regularly enough, the next total eclipse won’t be anywhere near Canada for another 20 years. I’m going to be an old slug before I can see one again! 😳

Its an honor to know the slugger visited our city
I’ll add it to my list!
I like that your lego sona is the small slug assembly from that house set instead of a sig fig
You came to Sluggin' Around for more Slugger content, I came to Sluggin' Around for more bandcamp releases; we are not the same. 😤

You just made me realize as a Montreal resident I don't recall ever being to Habitat 67. I'll have to go sometime.
