"Let your spirit stay unbroken, may you not be deterred." Anyone who has had hardships, whether mental or physical, has felt these words reach out to them. I am sure we all want to say thank you for that. It really touches you.
What an amazing performance........ The word "Genius" absolutely applies for this most amazing artist. His music goes to work directly on one's soul. Thank you, Peter Gabriel.
This song has always been like a hymn for me, inspiring me to stand against whatever odds. My hope lies here, that in that final hour I will be able to stand defiant and unbowed.
This has to be one of my all time favourite Peter Gabriel tracks. It is such a powerful song both lyrically and in terms of melody. How on earth this never appears on a Greatest Hits I'll never know! Thirty years on and this still sounds as fresh as it did back then. He is one of the few artists whose voice has changed very little over the years. Such a pity that his musical output is so infrequent as I would dearly love to hear some new material!
It is totally gratifying and wonderful to read all the sentimental and human comments on this forum. And all this is the result of what an artistic genius like Peter Gabriel transmits and has transmitted for decades. Wallflower is an exceptional and unusual work, an artistic genius that purifies the soul and motivates the most humane humanism that we carry inside. An undoubted support that even allows us to face the current difficult times that the entire world is experiencing
Cette chanson me touche énormément. J'attends donc mon futur procès devant une cour d'assise probablement l'an prochain.
Peter must have seen some real sorrow when he wrote song. I can feel his passion. Life is so damn short, why do people hurt others for money, for power, I think his music has made people realize images of terror, pain don't help any one at all. I think we all him a great thank you for making us realize, it's possible to care for others a whole lot more than ourselves. Thank you Peter..dback
Excellent restraint! I'm so proud that you didn't leave a comment! I'm sorry that I am unable to imitate the great strength of character you described... xxx
When I was a kid this song had been my secret shoulder to cry on Then after a bloody 30 years of life has passed the words come back to me here and there Reminds me of what they say about classic literature; you’d come back to a same piece at different points of life to find totally new meaning and depths. Now I not only enjoy the compassion this song gives, but also experience this with awe and gratefulness. I agree 200% to what someone said on other comment, Peter’s voice and singing has grown magnificent to add whole new dimension to this song. Thank you for uploading
How can one not love this music? I’m supposed to be Focusing on bird calls, as I lead many people on my lushnature excursions, but instead, often I can’t help but hear music like this pounding through my head!
This song is so moving, so delicate and fantastic. I still remember the first time I heard it.. I barely spoke a word of english in those days.... but I was so touched with his voice...
I just looked for this after listening to the original on the Peter Gabriel 4 album. I like this version with the piano as much as the original. In some ways it is much stronger at the end because it is quieter and more thoughtful without the percussion but I do love the earlier parts of the song on the original. It is an overlooked song, like much of PG4, which was so ahead of its time.
Complimenti.
This touches. Make so I have stage four analysis Parkinson's epilepsy , it hard to hold on, but I doo. For my wife and children... I hope on.. Love you
I am a survivor of a barbaric practice know as seclusion and restraint which is practiced on disabled children in schools across the country to this day. Discovering this song in my late teens, I listened to it over and over again, hoping that there was someone out there who knew what I had gone through. I just discovered a group that is part of a larger movement to outlaw the practice, and show teachers humane alternatives. Although there was nobody there for me as a kid, I am becoming the person who will say "...you are not forgotten here, and I will do what I can do." I will do what I can do!
Wish he´d do all of his great songs on a Solo Live Album just with his piano and voice. :-) Happy Birthday Peter, your music changed and saved my life.
love this and all PG's music. it makes me think of my wonderful daughter who wants to work for human or animal rights. We are so proud of her. this song epitomises her as she has a real sense of fairness regardless of what others might think. that's how it should be, and i think PG would agree
Underrated song from an underrated album. The humanity of this song, its understanding of suffering and hope for justice, is rare in a pop song. It reflects a reality as real today was in antiquity, during the Holocaust, during Apartheid, and, god help us, in the future.
This freaks me right out...his voice is the same (if not better) than on the original recording!!! This is so beautiful. My guru, my elder of the arts...for the last 33 years.
One thing that makes the lyrics so special is that PG avoids accusations, thereby escaping the urge of revenge and lowering agressive potential (same in the more famous "Biko"). A true highlight in both music and humanity. "You're not forgotten here. And I will say to you, I will do what I can do"
Che dire???!!!! Masterpiece GOOSEBUMPS WOW!!!!!! Meraviglia!!!!!!!
This Biko, Here comes the flood, Waiting for the big one, Solsbury Hill, Secret world, On your eyes, Mercy Street, I grieve, Washing of the water and The blood of Eden are his absolute best songs!
" Though you may disappear....you're not forgotten here...and I will do what I can do..,,we will do what we can do.."....this is what music can bring..tears to the eyes......
At Peter's age his pipes are better than some 30 year old pop music professionals..this is called raw talent that was produced one after the other during the 60s 70s into the 80s when it went into decline and has been flatlined ever since imo save a few really good artists here and there..that includes r&b too which of course had its decline by the mid to late 90s and is struggling to stay afloat
Agree wholeheartedly w/ you...and yes, R&B has devolved into gangster rap, hip-hop, and whatever they call it nowadays. It's been a sad run for popular music lo these last three decades or so.
This song has saved my life more than once.
On the brink of suicide...when he sings to hold on.....well....i did
you werent suicidal then
Don't hesitate to contact me, not a psych or anything, but don't mind.
Me too
@@trevorcarvalho4562 you OK man?
I count this particular song among my reasons to live.
"Let your spirit stay unbroken, may you not be deterred." Anyone who has had hardships, whether mental or physical, has felt these words reach out to them. I am sure we all want to say thank you for that. It really touches you.

peter's voice is as fine as good wine, better and better with years... we'll do what we can do
This is an absolute masterpiece of a song. It should be held on high as an example of songwriting excellence
at thirteen listening to this man , made my life , thanks peter
I LOVE YOU PETER ❤❤
One of PGs most overlooked songs. So much emotion with just a voice and a piano. Every generation has someone that this song could be written for.
I like this version better than the original. It's great when someone at 60 had a better voince than he did at 20.
Yup overlooked and underrated! My favorite from him!
Not overlooked. Who knows PG's music never overlooks this anthem.
Absolutely. And so relevant today.
i just love this man, the voice, the music, for 40 years,
Legend.
Been listening to PG, with reverence, for nearly fifty years now.
I'd heard a lot of Peter Gabriel songs but this song makes me realize why I have listened to him from the years.

There is also a German version of this anthem, all versions are great.
@@danielbraunlich5560 That was actually the original. From '81 or '82, I think.
This song saved my life tonight
A lot of people respond to it that way. I hope you're feeling better.
@@stellarocquie7957 Yes indeed I am. Salvation is at hand; God bless you for your caring and kind words Stella.

This should be the anthem for the international human rights court. Beautiful but also making me cry.

my idol since i was 13 pure music , live on peter ,genius
I love his tone. It's so unique. I think it's just part of his overall charm and energy. Peter Gabriel is an experience.
Never fails to reduce me to tears, this song.
This (old) dude abides.
PG abides! The brilliant soundtrack to my life.
This song shows me that I am not the only one not having the experiences that I have gone through.
This is a very special song.
I agree.
Thank you, Peter, for sharing compassion and hope with generations of people.
I think this song is for humans but perfect for animal situation. Thanks PG!

Is there anything this man can't do musically? He is a complete musical genius and seems so humble with it. This is one of his many stunning songs.
For me, his finest song. Shivers, every time .
Damn I love when he hits high notes like that.
What a phenomenal human being.
oh my God what a version of this masterwork

So much hope and compassion in this beautiful song. Thank you PG.
Amazing, as always. When this man sings, it makes my hair stand on end. That's when you know are witnessing true genius!!!
I have loved this song and known it word for word since I was a kid.
You face the night alone, while the builders of the cages sleep with bullets, bars and stones..
In times of overused formulas, low-risk artistic endeavors, and sick-narcissism this is like an oasis in the middle of the largest of desserts.
What a beautiful voice.
How can one not love this music? I’m supposed to be Focusing on bird calls, as I lead many people on my lushnature excursions, but instead, often I can’t help but hear music like this pounding through my head!
IMHO, his most evocative, moving and powerful song, on what may well be the best of his albums.
I love this man. There's a reason my son is named after him. This song has given me hope in the face despair for more than 30 years. Bless you, PG 🙏

An amazing piece of work. My all time Gabriel song.
Tears in my eyes..
Thx for great music, sir.
He's a great performer and musical artist, but an equally amazing poet. I've used his visual poetry in my literature classes. My students love it.
He's not a poet though
