I don’t love residential job sites. Too little room, to many things to hit, and nails and screws waiting to puncture your tires!
On the other hand, as an operator I enjoyed loading trucks. Very satisfying.

As one who drove a dump truck for a while, and one who has had a windshield busted by a rock off a dump truck (saw the rock come off the truck and bounce up), I get pissed when I see a truck hauling without the tarp up…but I’m on the east coast. I noticed when you had a load of dirt that there wasn’t any dust coming off it as you went down the road. Here, it blows everywhere. Sand is the worst…I’ll back way off so I don’t get blasted.

Do all your trucks run all the time, or do you use what the customer wants? I think you have a couple four axle trucks and pup trailers , and a six axle seven axle dump truck? If you count the strong arm on the back. I don’t think i would buy a strong arm for a dump truck unless I had a big fleet of truck’s because I hear the strong arm tires can wear out faster especially if your hauling long distances

You need a strategy for dealing with tailgaters. I will brake slowly and slow down to about ten mph below the speed limit, drive that speed for 10 seconds and then speed back up. If they don't get it, I will do it again for 15 seconds. Third time I will brake harder to 15 MPH below the speed limit and drive that speed for 30 seconds, by then they usually get it.

Meh, it's easy. Want a backing challenge, come work for a road department. When we pull shoulders we drive backwards down the road while the belt loader loads us. So you are not only backing down the road, your riding the edge of the road as well. Then you got to look out for mailboxes and signs all the while keeping your truck against the belt loader which is driving down the road. And then when we do everyones favorite, chip seal, we are actually being drug backwards by the chip spreader. That gets real fun.

In your opinion, has it been more profitable as a driver for a company or owning your own truck? Maybe it's too early to tell as you continue to grow your business. I think that there are a lot of viewers who might be on the fence regarding truck ownership. Enjoy your day and be safe...
