Hey Josh! I just received my TOEFL score of 101 (R 26, L 27, S 27, W 21) and wanted to thank you. Your videos have been a big help, in one of your videos where you were giving out tips to prepare for Toefl you had said that stop watching lot of RUclips videos and start preparing (all those who plan to give toefl, this is the first thing that you need to do) , it was really helpful because before that all I did was watch videos and not put any effort in the actual preparation but after that I started taking reading test later worked on the speaking and listening sections but I didn't put much effort into the writing section thinking it was easy but my poor decision was reflected on the score. (On the test day I did not have the time to review what i had written since my time management in the writing section was very poor.) I got this score with just 10 days of preparation. English was the medium of instruction in my school as well as in my under graduate program so all I needed was to understand the exam, your videos have been a big help in doing so. I am sure many more will find your videos very useful in their preparation like me, so thanks a lot Josh!
Thanks for taking the time to leave such a nice comment. And of course, congratulations! Always good to hear when someone can put this test behind them.
Taking notes is the toughest part for me but after this video I don't think it'll be a big problem from now on thank you for your hard work I've learned new information plus the lesson was so enjoyable it's a good job that I didn't miss it
Without note, it is hard to answers all questions correctly. But the most important thing, it is right direction to make a note. I try to write everything. I need to learn which one is valuable to write. Keep going to follow you. Thanks.
Hi there and good point. You need to write down only the most important information, mostly verbs and nouns, omit some vowels, and use symbols. Check out this article for more information - tstprep.com/articles/toefl/taking-notes-for-the-listening-section-of-the-toefl-test/
Hi Josh, just wanted to drop by to say thank you for all the great TOEFL prep content you provide! I didn't have much time to prepare for my TOEFL so I needed to figure a way to fit as much of my English skill as possible into the test format. Your videos really helped me a lot with that! Thank you :)
I was not able to listen, write and understand the audio the same time but with your video, I understand more and I'm more confident taking my test in 03 days. I know I'll have a great score. Thanks Sir
i always have trouble in grasp the flow in the listening and speaking sections, and the problem is because I'm losing focus on listening while I'm trying to write notes. this video helps me a lot, thank you Josh and TST prep TOEFL!
Hi Josh is my first time writing here. I am med students and usually we use this kind of notes, because a lot of information in a short time. So looking you channel u gave me better tips to do this in english. Hope I can do a good job during the test. I am so happy u have this big heart and put so much effort to make videos and share with us all your experience and knowledge.
I also didn't take notes during the listening section and got a 30, mostly because I have great memory when it comes to auditory data, and writing notes would actually split my focus.
Thanks for commenting. If you want to build your vocabulary, the first site we would recommend is LingQ. It is a program designed to give you a ton of reading content, from news articles to short stories at all levels of proficiency. It also has flashcards and other tools to help you remember vocabulary.
I think looking at your notes is fine! I don't recommend reading your notes, there is a BIG difference. If you read your notes, you will probably sound robotic and stiff. As long as you sound comfortable and natural when you speak, you can respond however you like, with or without notes.
I have Toefl exam in two weeks and still my listening scores are about 22-23!!! I'm frustrated:((( I will try this method of notetaking, I hope it works....
it is really annoying when making a decision on taking notes or not, anyway, I try to concentrate and take no notes in this practice, but i got 6 out 6 correct!!
Thanks for commenting. Experiment with both strategies. See which one you feel most comfortable with. The most important thing to consider is that you need to understand the listening passage. Notetaking is helpful, but it is also optional.
yes, thank you for your video. I will continue experiment and hope to find the strategies most suitable for me. And, I think you are great and amazing, Josh, 🥰conveying the useful tips to people in need. I will keep close connection with your update!! wish you all the best!@@TSTPrep

HI...I am a bit confused so i wanna ask do we have to make an account on proctoru after registering for the test or simply click the link to proctoru available in the email after the test has been purchased?
I would go through the steps outlined on the site, it is a bit confusing. I made a video about it, which I will link to below, but focus on the steps outlined on ETS and ProctorU's site - ruclips.net/video/yiwBIvk4aiA/видео.html

Hi there and thank you for commenting. Although it's doable, getting a perfect score of 120 is pretty challenging. Most likely, you do not need the "perfect" score. For example, many of the most competitive programs require a total score of 100 - 115.
Hi there and I'm not sure what you mean but the listening section will be a recording, but the speaker is a real person, not a text-to-speech AI program.

well, this is a criticism. You said that we need to take notes, but when you are answering the questions, you do not see your notes, so why do we need to take notes? if you don't use your notes to answer the questions. Another thing, that I would like to share here, is your videos of practice listening, are very far from the real test because in your videos of lecture I never see a question from the professor to the student o from the professor to catch the attention of the students. And I could say another thing that is very far from the real listening section. Please I know you need to make money from this, but try to help the student in a real way.
Thank you for your feedback Valencia and I can tell you are very intelligent. You see right through me. "Please I know you need to make money from this, but try to help the student in a real way." So you are suggesting that I am making this video just to make money (about $5/month from ad revenue) and I am purposely trying to mislead students and waste their time? What a jerk I must be (and a poor jerk at that). Also, in regards to your better critique, "You said that we need to take notes, but when you are answering the questions, you do not see your notes, so why do we need to take notes?" Again, as I said in the beginning, you do not have to take notes. I do recommend them. Even though I do not use them extensively, they help keep me focus during the listening and serve as memory cues when answering the questions, as I said in the video. Also, please let me know how I can "help the student in a real way." I thought the videos on the channel were helpful but clearly, I'm missing something according to your expertise.
Thank you for your videos. I scored 110 in the exam and i too got 30/30 in listening without taking notes. Your videos helped me practice a lot.
Thanks for commenting and congrats!

you kind of disappointed me I spend 100 dollars and now you put all of that course on youtube for free and even better with walkthroughs
Hi Saidi and thank you for the comment. Happy to hear you found it helpful!
I think taking short notes is vital to help remember important information
when i watched this video, i realized that my problem is not about not taking notes, but instead of lack of vocabularies

hello was that live? if that was live when do you do live broadcast?
Hi there and unfortunately, I don't do anymore live broadcasts. Thank you for asking, though.
Hi, Josh! will I be able to look at my notes while answering the questions? 🤔

Do I get a chance to go back to previous response and change it in listening section.
No, this is only for the reading, for the other sections you have to go in order.
it is really annoying when making a decision on taking notes or not, anyway, I try to concentrate and take no notes in this practice, but i got 6 out 6 correct!!

Hello, please I don’t understand question 3 &answer of the listening conversation.
It's hard to write answer with triangle and circle with doing note.
How can I?
thanks....
Are you allowed to bring paper and pen for notes?
You don't need to bring paper and a pencil. The test center staff will provide you with scratch paper and pencils.
So let’s say on number three consists of two questions and you get one correct does this mean all both will be marked wrong ?
For questions with two choices, if two choices are correct, award yourself one point. If one of the choices is incorrect, you earn zero points for the given question.
I have a question , If the audio was in Spanish , Would your notes be the same? native speaker

is the speed of the lecture same as in a real exam
Some people say they speak too fast while others say the pace is normal. In my opinion, the pace is a tiny bit fast.
Hi sir
I make mistakes in speaking
In distribution of pauses
work on those then
