How TV stations join together for Eurovision - Second Semi-Final 2024

- The second Semi-Final of the Eurovision Song Contest was broadcast live on across Europe and the world on May 9th 2024. Here's a look at how a few stations in Europe handled the networked programme, including host broadcaster SVT. Guess who didn't make it in time...
Big thanks to Gurks for providing the SVT recording!
Rai will never be on time
I would have been sacked for that - coordinator director basics 1-0-1 !!
Italy has specific time of sponsoring that must be respected. Will never be on time, except if it is the hosting broadcaster
@@tvitalyofficial Interesting, thanks.
@@tvitalyofficial Yes, it seems that RAI is a "This program is brought to you by..." broadcaster, which delays the Eurovision broadcast.
@@tvitalyofficial I guess in 2022, when the contest was hosted in Turin, that was the only occasion where they did manage to join in time. But on every other edition since then, they will always get in a few seconds late.
Italy was again late, but, this time, RTS2 was early in case of outro and it even didn't aired the "Eurovision" ident.
They did the same in semi final 1, interesting
Do they really think that the credits are too long?
BBC surprised me this year by actually taking one of the opt outs in semi 1, they don't normally use them at all.
I absolutely love these videos about the eurovision networking 😊
When the semi's were on BBC 3 & 4 they were famous for using all the opts for silly sketches with the hosts Rylan & Scott and whoever our entry was. But they would never take them during the Grand Final. And then they seemed to stop doing this after 2020, presumably as they deemed it wasn't safe to film those bits now and then it also saves them money.
@@robthemodYT and last year, when they were the host, and the contest was presented by Graham Norton and other British personalities, they obviously never opted out so that they don't disrespect their own personalities I guess.
@@moelester7527 2019 they opted out (think one of them was a sketch involving Rylan being a taxi service, another some Line of Duty parody)
2020 - No show, Covid
2021 - Didn't opt
2022 - Didn't opt
2023 - Hosting
2024 - (?)
@@robthemodYT there was even a moment in 2019 during the first semifinal where they just straight-up lost the Eurovision feed completely, whilst on the RUclips livestream and on other broadcasters it was working just fine.
@@moelester7527 It was the last two minutes or so of the first semi-final, and after a silent pause with a breakdown caption the BBC then ran their own local version of the EBU logo and music to pretend they'd fix the issue and rejoined the contest feed, and to cover the real problem (a satelitte link being penny-pinchingly booked to the precise second and thus unable to cope with the completely inevitable overrun). The ESC falling off the air early was more concerning for the UK viewer than it might otherwise have been given that the contest was in Israel that year and the British media before the contest had been disproportionately full of speculation of increased security risks and the potential for some sort of attack.
To everyone who offered to record a specific channel during the finale: Thank you very much! You'll find my email by clicking on the channel info on this page: ruclips.net/user/tevebits (Sorry, I don't like posting it in clear text here because of all the spam bots). I'm looking for segments of approx. 2 mins before and after the Eurovision opening and closing. I'll do my best to include them.
ever thought of having the sbs feed from australia? to see if they have a time delay due to being down under???
@@magesnz That's a very interesting idea
Interesting to see how ARD (via NDR) covers up the sponsors this year, on the One feed at the end of the broadcast (1:10), especially since ARD's flagship channel, Das Erste, who are broadcasting the finals on Saturday, can't run commercials after 8pm most days.
Also, no adverts during Sunday and bank holidays (Maybe you already knows this...)
Please keep posting these, they are super interesting!
At some point, the EBU has to penalise RAI. It's not the first time and it is quite frustrating...
BBC One is the only channel that never aired Eurovision sponsors, That makes sense.
have you forgotten about Das Erste?
The BBC channels in the UK are funded by a license fee, so as such they never aired adverts. Ever.
This is why they have to block the sponsor logos, and leave the show early while the winner is perfroming in some years (as it might contain sponsors in a way that can't be blocked easily by using a still).
By the way, most public broadcasters in the Europe are funded in a hybrid way (license fee + adverts and sponsors).
And the only channel without on screen logos/bugs
actually, I watched this whole video for the 3rd time
same
There's another clip on RUclips showing what went out on La 1 in Spain and it's stirring up quite a bit of speculation.
Honestly, given the televote results fiasco, this isn't even the worst thing Italy did
I still didn't knew RAI is rushing for his life.
we need to see more channels!
I also want to see other Nordic broadcasters, like Yle and DR. NRK and RÚV are optional.
Once again, RAI did not get on time... they will NEVER do that ever...
Can't wait to see RAI 1 mess up when they air the ESC 2024 Final tonight 😂
It’s basically typical Italians at this point. Imagine all Italians expecting a late advertisement in slot of eurovision final.
Rai 1 was on time for the grand final!
@@RadioGiorgio Oh thank god!
you're welcome for the SVT recording :)
Could you by any chance make one with the VRT (🇧🇪)’s feed? I’m curious how the union strike looks like compared to other broadcasters.
Do you want record from Suspilne (Ukraine)? How can we contact with you?
I have a record from the RTP1 channel (Portuguese Radio and Television1), may you want to compile with the Final Eurovision video?
Rai is never on time, it's amazing
00:51, Jean-Marc Richard from RTS is always the first one to talk
of course Rai was late
SVT didn't show all sponsors at the end. One didn't show EBU, SVT and Malmö logo as BBC did.
You mean One (DE)? They must have gone early. But then they did the same last year for some reason - it makes no sense, they are not sponsors, just production companies and host city.
it's because SVT are not allowed to advertise alcohol and bailey's is a beer brand
Why is rai always late?? Do they have too much sponsorship vids to play or why always this delayed.
SBS (Australia) done the eurovision ident aswell
Does sbs play it live in Australia ? I might have a look when I’m at work this week for the finale
@@magesnz Yes, SBS shows it live (starting 5.00am AEST) and replay in prime time.
@@TelevisionAU I have never watched sbs since I’m in New Zealand , but I can Watch It on via my company network since I work for an Aussie company
Can you put the TVP (polish broadcaster) today?
Thanks for including the host broadcaster this time. It seems interesting that SVT chose to broadcast the semifinals on their main channel instead of their secondary one. Maybe they'll do it the other way around for the grand final. For some reason the sponsors are a little different on SVT than the world feed, I guess there are certain sponsorships that are not valid for Sweden.
Love how the Germans are like: Fuck the sponsors, we gonna show the northern light theme instead.
No ads allowed on ARD after 8pm and on Sundays! :)
@@mebutoldernow Also during bank holidays, too
On RaiPlay they even messed up with putting a short EST intro, with that a second EST was heard at the end of the short intro
Not only on RaiPlay but also in Rai 2 DVB-T/S feed. In my semi-final multiview video you can hear it clearly.
By the way, I remember your videos a few months ago
@@erik2593 thanks :)
Please add Suspilne Culture, I can stream the TV channel
(I live in Ukraine, so I write through a translator)
When are you gonna upload a video like this about this year’s final? Sorry if I’m asking you too soon, just I think BBC One was a little late to start.
Coming up tonight
I'm always disappointed RTÉ (IE) is never used here.
Probably because tevebits is simply not able to catch it ;)
I don’t know but Germany was smooooth…
RAI, once again, with the late arrival. And RTS leaving without Te Deum, yet One stays until the end of the broadcast. Was that due to the show running over at all, or did RTS just leave?
Rai will never be on time lmao 😂
Shame you didn't manage to get hold of the flemish TV where they displayed a message distaniating themselves from the participation of Israel

The moment as the ESC-World was fine..
And of course rai needs to join late

Rai late and RTS2 without Te Deum 😂
Could you do it with RTVE please?
Do you want me to catch KAN 11 for you?
If you include TVP1 for final.
Sadly, I don't have TVP available to me at the moment. So I cannot record it.
@@tevebitsI would be more than happy to catch it for you. mxsr mail is the correct one? 😊
@@chusall Lovely, thank you! You'll find my email by clicking on the channel info on this page: ruclips.net/user/tevebits (Sorry, I don't like posting it in clear text here because of all the spam bots)
@@tevebits Oh, I was looking there, but it seems it's not viewable in-app. No problem, I have it now. Will send an e-mail as soon as The Finale ends 😊
@@chusall Thank you very much and enjoy the show tonight
and Rai1 lates again, nothing new
Vrt should really be here too
RTP do that to
Rai joins late as always
for those wondering why Culturebox is showing the credits just like how France 2 did it last year, it is because they are at the same tv group, FranceTV
also the funny thing is that im pretty sure France 4 also showed the eurovision, because France 4 at night starts broadcasting Culturebox
and France 2 only broadcasts the finale
@@Komas19Gaming Basically, it's all the same canal in France (number 14). During the day, they broadcast Okoo (kids programs) and on night, Culturebox (cultural programs). France 4 brand is used for other events (like sports). And indeed, both semi-finals are broadcast on Culturebox/France 4 in France.
o
Rai late again lol
RAI gonna RAI
KAN missing
Oh come on RAI again. When it's come to the end, I forgot to mention in previous video, since BBC have no ad policy, they directly showing good night instead, meanwhile others still showing the sponsor. And at this point RTS ended early.
