    If anybody needs to do a similar repair, here’s a link to the laser I used

    Another console resurrected from a broken state. 🙌
    What I would suggest doing whenever you use shrink wrap is to just use heat from like a heat gun rather than an open flame. It’ll avoid the whole charred insulation and shrink tube situation then. 😉
    Also, I am glad to see that you used a tabbed battery and soldered the wires to the existing pins. I’ve seen quite a few solder directly to the battery’s casing, which isn’t good for it. Another solid repair.

      Thanks for the suggestion! I can’t undo the videos I have shot and edited but I’ll use my hot air rework station for shrink tubing in the future. I hadn’t even thought of that lol 😂

      I was going to suggest using that, but wasn’t sure if you had one on-hand. That’s usually what I use as well, but the heat gun is a great alternative at only a fraction of the cost of the hot air rework station at ~$60 USD (for other viewers interested in getting a start with soldering repairs).

    So I have replaced the laser drive, cleaned the system, and used lithium grease on the worm drive. My discs all work fine now but there is an unusual ticking noise at the start of the system and then eventually goes away. Discs all read every time but the noise is very bothersome. Any ideas?

      Open the console, find out the problem and try to eliminate the noise caused by it.

    I get no signal on my tv at all and no disc spin after I replaced the laser. Why??

    • @CrashFan03
      @CrashFan03 3 месяца назад

      might be the door sensors. did you try putting pressure on the disc flap? i know that the ps2 slim tends to not give a signal when the disc drive isn't closed properly

    The problem with theses V12 or V13 consoles is that they eat lasers. So there is a Matrix PIC fix or a Summ0ne fix. Can you look into that?

    • @RestorationRelaxation
      @RestorationRelaxation  3 года назад +1

      It’s my understanding that’s only an issue when you’re using a modbo chip, I haven’t found anything on that being an issue with stock consoles

    does the empty cmos have any disadvantages?

    • @RestorationRelaxation
      @RestorationRelaxation  3 года назад +2

      A few! Some games like Metal Gear Solid 3 use the internal clock, like in the boss fight with The End

    Really good fix video, dude. How on Earth did you know that the battery needed to be replaced?

    • @RestorationRelaxation
      @RestorationRelaxation  3 года назад +4

      Thank you! When you start the ps2 without a disc in, you should see a bunch of swirling white dots in the background of the black screen. If you only see one white dot, the battery is dead. The dots actually change based on the time of day

    I'm thouroughly confused and lost... My PS2 Slim I just bought has this exact problem. Reads CDs just fine but not DVD. The CMOS battery is definitely dead BUT my model SCPH-77001 doesn't appear to have the battery in the same place as literally everything I've seen online. I can't find an answer as to WHERE it is at all. The spot where it is like in this video is just a solid piece of metal and I don't see the battery underneath that metal... if anyone can help that would be great 😭

    • @CrashFan03
      @CrashFan03 3 месяца назад

      i did a quick search of the board and i believe that on the 77001 the battery should be on the very left of the console near the power supply port

      He was lifting up that metal flap that holds the ribbon in place, it clamps down and locks everything in 👍🏾
