@@thelivingend You are correct - I was thinking this was recorded soon after Curtis' death in May 1980, but it was actually October 1980, a few months after Hartley's departure. Thanks for the heads up.
Man, thank you so much The Cure for this song. I love Ian Curtis . I love Joy Division/New Order. There's a new band "Bad Lieutenant" carrying on the tradition. And I might add-- I love The Cure!
Wow. John Frusciante on Rick Rubin podcasts set me on a dive into the Cure and Joy Division, among many other great bands and records. Holy hour is my fav Cure track and to know it was dedicated to Ian is just perfect. Love both joy division records. Seventeen seconds and Faith are my fav Cure albums.
How cool is this! It's back in time now--but the music still sounds great.. There's good music out there right now, but man, this early 1980's is absolutely amazing.
J'ai eu ce morceau sur une cassette audio. Elle fait partie du concert de Montreux en Suisse en 1981, excellent concert d'ailleurs. Très belle version, la voix de Robert est magnifique, tres triste, un grand hommage au chanteur des JD. I know the date and place Where It has been recorded, festival international de Montreux in switzerland, 1981, first track of the playlist because i had the tape recording when I was at school (lycée). This era reminds me we when we were sharing with friends the tapes all together, and the sound of the tape was going worst once duplicated... Really good version of the Holly hour, Robert voice is so beautiful very sad. A true tribute to the JD singer.
Realistically speaking, probably not. I don’t think they’d be on bad terms, but their personalities are too opposite for them to realistically be considered friends.
@Foxtailedanimator Really? I’d say the quite opposite. Both of them seemed really reserved and not big a fan of putting attention on themselves. Just look at them live; Barely spoke to the audiences they played for, and were only concerned with performing. Not to mention both suffered from depression and struggled with being under too much pressure; Ex. Ian’s death and The Cure almost being abolished during 1982.
This tune rules! Ian Curtis...talent cut short...however, that is always the way... raw Cure...this must have been during the Pornography tour...Love the make-up Robert...the best you ever looked...excert maybe "Bloodflowers" to "The Cure".... Brilliant...

@HawK047 or shallow and depressing. will robert smith ever sing in a different key ? this sounds like a slow ballad played by the herman munster band on a bad night.

Im huge fans of both and i dont see the problem, just people trying to say my bands better than yours like fucking children, these people need to find where they left their balls and stitch them back on
@tricot2009 je ne suis pas vraiment d'accord avec toi. Robert est peut-être fan de Joy, les deux groupes datant de la même époque, j'ai du mal à y voir une influence quelconque. Sans mauvaises pensées évidemment.
@birdandthe Try listening to Cans 'Tago Mago' album. If your not satisfied with that, then tell me I'm at my musical limit! I'd be curious to know what supposedly ultimate & superior music you listen to, tell me & if you don't say any modern indie ripoff shit or any cliched Nu-metal bollocks then I'll shut my mouth. Fair?
@@richies6420 what did u expect to hear, one artist talking about another ones death , it's pure art and can be interpreted differently , we don't know da shouldn't know what exactly Robert meant by his on stage performance
I think the dedication is ironic, given how much mileage The Cure got out of appropriating Joy Division's sound...a bit like what Pink Floyd took from Syd Barrett.
I don`t remember JD but I remember the time when Kurt was alive. He had a real impact, almost global one. Nirvana was someway like a second Beatles. Young people were waiting their interviews, their new music, their new actions. It was exciting. Something said it can`t last foreverer. Something said that it will end dramatically.
Paul Leto ..you may have heard Love Will Tear Us Apart, but i doubt you've listened in full to a Joy Division album..Who over rates Joy Division?? At the time of recording and playing live, the band was seen as a forward thinking outfit, new sounds, diverse beats, real lyrics...Ian was battling bipolar disorder and epilepsy, kept the depression well hidden as the other band members thought his lyrics were just that,.words! As they, now New Order have stated how wrong did they get it! A renaissance of the music has come through artists such as Trent Reznor, formerly of Nine Inch Nails, The Cure, amongst others as well as New Order themselves! As for Nirvana, the music also speaks for itself! Yes, in Seattle at the time and before Nirvana there was a thriving alternative scene..but they were the chosen and their rise was well made before the death of Kurt Cobain..You dont have to agree, nor like the music of these bands..just realise, no one in or outside the music industry, fan and musician alike loves them simply because their respective lead singers died from suicide! Their minds were made up before this!

"Cold Wave" in France. So good sound !

This is live, before the Faith album was recorded. Hartley's keys are obvious, and the lyric and vocal melody are in embryo. It's still incredible.
