I always wondered what my favorite Cure song is because I thought I like a lot of them equally but someday I realized that I never ever ever ever skipped M on a playlist, CD, cassette or vinyl record, so I guess M is my alltime Cure favorite !!!
Anybody who's ever been in a crappy garage band will know just how hard it is to sound this tight & this generally shit hot. What a song, what a performance.
The saddest part of The Cure's (and Robert Smith's) legacy is that nobody understanding the thematic content of his poems. He is a literary genius, unparalleled, peerless. "Killing an Arab" is so obviously a reference to Camus' The Stranger. People get that much. But his other works are explications and commentaries on classic literature, poetry, and film. It is a travesty that nobody knows what he is talking about in his beautiful / brilliant lyrics.
That book was a bore, though. I think the real travesty is Smith's guitar playing being overlooked. Hes not really known for his creative playing and sound. Hypnotic and totally distinctive.
Just the early days of fame for The CURE and Robert Smith ! Timeless band now ! I fall in love with the great Robert Smith again and again and again and again...
let's just take a moment to appreciate how hot Robert was, in his twenties and without the extravagant makeup note : totally not hating, I find him charming either way :P
👍 couldn't agree more. And I do live either way. Just refreshing to see how some people can sell themselves with talent and don't have to resort to using their looks/body.
The Cure are Legends, but they would be GODS if they never slowed down their playing for recording sessions, who ever the producer was to convince Robert to play slower should be shot. The Cure never should of slowed down their time. Never, never, never
+ Itsall good "but They Would be GODS IF They Never Slowed down Their playing for recording sessions, whoever the producer was convinced Robert to slow down Should be shot. The CURE Should of never slowed down the time, the time, the time to These songs
Are you kidding us? Since when there was a "producer" telling Robert Smith how to play his music? Ironically it was their slow rhythm with psychedelic effects what has made "Gods" out of the Cure...
This is a absolutely great vid! Good quality and The Cure at it's best. For me the best years were the beginning with the albums boys don't cry- 17 seconds and offcourse faith!! Although they had a strong comeback with disintegration they never catched me again like they did with this kind of songs. MANY THANKS FOR THIS UPLOAD!!!!
Wow! This is awesome! One of my favourite songs from Seventeen Seconds! Great performance, great quality video & by golly do Robert & Simon look cute!!!
The Cure is so underrated, in my opinion. They're not in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, critics gave mixed to negative reviews to Pornography, Faith, Seventeen Seconds & even Disintegration back in the 80s, and it seems like critics don't like the Cure that much. Hell, only ONE Cure album was on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums list. :(
they are in now my friend! love this album so, so much. this era - 1978 to about 1982 is peak Cure for me. Wasn't a fan of the last one, but I bet the upcoming album will be brilliant.
Absolutely love this song and one that i've never grown tired of even after hearing it 1,000's of times over the years. Thanks for posting this great concert.
This is the year I saw them for the first time, they played in a dance club in New YOrk ( Hurrah! Club) thatnks for sharing this flashback...they have come a long way, this is the period before the delays and chorus effects on guitar ( which I prefer)
SImply Brilliant. Simon's Fender Precision Bass is tight & hums along and I really like Matt's work on the Korg 700. Rob singing and guitaring is tight!
People seem to dismiss the Cure as a collect of haircuts, but Robert and Simon are incredible on their instruments. Seventeen Seconds and Faith, Simon absolutely murders with his bass lines...
Definitely , and fucking hell ... I wonder what sort of diet he´s made to look like this in here . Must have been the usual "cigs & crank" one , which the other geez whose name eludes me now did for "American Psycho ".
The terms and labels have changed so many times over the years/decades. Back in 1980 when this was brand new we just called it 'new wave'. That term took on a whole different meaning after MTV happened, but in 1980 that's how I and everyone else I knew who was into the Cure referred to it.
this is the Cure at their absolute best. pre-goth. post-punk. just brilliant.
You're bang on the money there mate!
Pre-Lol's alcoholism.
Yeah, you're right... or at least, before alcohol got the better of him.
Coldacre actually this is their goth album. this is gothic rock
Coldacre all their stuff until the ninties is awesome.
That bass is amazing!
It's so fun to play
yes it's so beautifully rude
@@TheDrowningWoman how
Post-Punk is full of awesome Bass. Check out Peter Hook
That bass is just amazing.
the simon 'gallup' =) cool a f.
My favourite Cure song, seventeen seconds is a masterpiece :)
Clare Maddison Marry Me
YES lol :)
+Clare Maddison this is my favorite as well. Next up, The Exploding Boy.
+Clare Maddison This was my favorite Cure song for a long time.
+Clare Maddison M is my fav as well, and 17 seconds is simply amazing, one of thier best
The bass in this song is an amazing wall of sound
Monster Bass❤
That fucking bass sound...I could listen to Simon play for hours...
thats not simon its mick dempsey
No, Dempsey was gone by the end of 79.
Christian de Nimes Look at his face. That's all you need to realize that Simon is the guy.
+kontarkosz Also his body posture is a giveaway it is Simon.
Check out Magazine's "Real Life" & "Secondhand Daylight". Genius.
everyone keeps talking about the bass, but Roberts Voice is so out of this world that we take it for granted.
I always wondered what my favorite Cure song is because I thought I like a lot of them equally but someday I realized that I never ever ever ever skipped M on a playlist, CD, cassette or vinyl record, so I guess M is my alltime Cure favorite !!!
Great great Robert Smith, I am a huge fan... I saw him in London when he was 18 !!! Still love his songs and poetry. From France, many thanks !
Simon's bass in this does things to me. Simon in general does things to me. I wish I was alive in the 80s!!!
i wish you were too, you would have loved it!
1980 was the year I first started listening to the Cure. I was 10.
The Bass! The line. His walk is so clean, pure and powerful for this song! Beautiful.
Anybody who's ever been in a crappy garage band will know just how hard it is to sound this tight & this generally shit hot. What a song, what a performance.
Love this song. M is for Mary, as in Mary Poole, Smith's wifey, for all those out there who would like to know but didn't until now.
I tried a cover that you might enjoy here : ruclips.net/video/V0BLRPU1EHU/видео.htmlsi=OvCWUcrkdCuPOmN6
Robert Smith looking so damn fresh man. Ill do anything to get back on these years.
Love The CURE and his boss Rob Smith since I was a teenager. Now I'm 57 years old and I still do love the sound of The CURE.
this is SO the best
its better than best
I would have loved to have been at that particular concert. The Cure in their early period, just amazing music.
Robert's guitar playing is sublime as always but I really love Simon's bass on this one, down and dirty for sure!!
The saddest part of The Cure's (and Robert Smith's) legacy is that nobody understanding the thematic content of his poems. He is a literary genius, unparalleled, peerless. I will ALWAYS love Robert...
He’s obviously a spectacular song writer. Maybe some of us don’t have to understand it to that extreme. Maybe we just love the music.
That book was a bore, though. I think the real travesty is Smith's guitar playing being overlooked. Hes not really known for his creative playing and sound. Hypnotic and totally distinctive.
So what's this song referring to?
@@DaveAnchovies indeed!
Seventeen Seconds..... one of my all time favourite Cure albums... love how dark and broody, etheral the sound is on this album.
i honestly think he's beyond caring; he's always been a poet- and a beautiful performer ❣💋💜😘
Getting to see this song performed live thirty years after 1980... one of the top moments of my life.
40 years after for me.. greatest experience ever❤️
Yeeeees, very impressive!
One of my fav song
The Cure at their absolute best
Never gets old. Chapeau Robert!
Great artists ! Still love The CURE (& Robert Smith) 40 years and they are still legends. Great career. 🖤💋
Just the early days of fame for The CURE and Robert Smith ! Timeless band now ! I fall in love with the great Robert Smith again and again and again and again...

Yep totally agree! I adore him either way! But had never seen all these really early clips before and he was beautiful!
you think he was looking after himself then, then?
Leia I KNOW, I LOVE HIM SO MUCH HES BEAUTIFUL.
Same
Well…guess I’ll be mesmerized by this for the next few weeks.
Words can’t express how much I love this band
Thank you to the world for bringing this brilliant man to earth.
Robert smith is an under rated guitarist. His guitar solos are very unique.
The Cure are Legends, but they would be GODS if they never slowed down their playing for recording sessions, who ever the producer was to convince Robert to play slower should be shot. The Cure never should of slowed down their time. Never, never, never

100% agree itsall good

100%
Ohhh Yeah. I was there.... .Jeus i dit not know is was on You Tube !! One of the best concert i ever seen....They blow me away there.......
HOLY FUCKING SHIT! THIS PERFORMANCE IS SO FUCKING BRILLIANT!

the Peel version is also tremendous
Yes... after 30 years.. still yes!!!
Im a muso and I've always rated Robert as a player, writer and singer. He is a rare talent.
power
When they added Hartley on seventeen seconds album they kicked it into another level! So good!
Truly a masterpiece. The Cure is by far the best in every way. And that bass ...
Simon's bass playing is great to hear so high in the mix 🖤
This is a absolutely great vid! Good quality and The Cure at it's best. For me the best years were the beginning with the albums boys don't cry- 17 seconds and offcourse faith!! Still one of my favorite bands. Saw them in 1980 and they never left my hart and mind.
Fantastic !
The Cure as I remember them at their absolute best
Wow! This is awesome! One of my favourite songs from Seventeen Seconds! Great performance, great quality video & by golly do Robert & Simon look cute!!!

The Cure should've been in Rock and Roll hall of fame a long time ago. They more than deserve that honor
strange isn't it?
Now Robert Smith has been awarded the 'God Like Genius' award, presented by Tim Burton, who is a long time devotee, more fitting really.
they are in now my friend! love this album so, so much. this era - 1978 to about 1982 is peak Cure for me. Wasn't a fan of the last one, but I bet the upcoming album will be brilliant.
I'm seriously starting to think the word "underrated" is the most abused word in the English language!
wow! i had no idea they were this good !!
They're AMAZING , especially , in concert
One of my favourite song ever! This version is absolutely excellent...
great basslines
Gem of a video. TY!
Absolutely love this song and one that i've never grown tired of even after hearing it 1,000's of times over the years. Thanks for posting this great concert.
Absolut piece of history !

Камю любит. Значит экзестинциальная философия..как у Летова.
Great video quality and great sound. 10/10 holy crap isn't this internet thing amazing.
AWESOME
OMG I WAS ONLY 14 OR 15 YEARS OLD... STILL LOVE THEIR STYLE AND SONGS
ive touched the very same fender that roberto is playing....quite an honour when
u think what a song writing /guitar GOD he is..happy days
This is the year I saw them for the first time, they played in a dance club in New YOrk ( Hurrah! Club) thatnks for sharing this flashback...they have come a long way, this is the period before the delays and chorus effects on guitar ( which I prefer)
Magnificent
Nice look - no makeup or hairspray - raw song
CAREFREE LIFESTYLE you didnt like their trademark image?
Agree. I just want to say "Bob, mate - FFS, cut the smeared lipstick, teased hair bullshit".
Hands down their best live performance!!!!
They've got plenty of performances like that or even better
Perfect song the cure is the Best band
La classe absolue !
SImply Brilliant. Simon's Fender Precision Bass is tight & hums along and I really like Matt's work on the Korg 700. Rob singing and guitaring is tight!
Lol's doin a good job too , isn't he?
1.17-1.44 is absolutely the best!!!! Matt's Korg 700 synth lines & Simon's fENDER Bass with Lol on the Simmons Clap Trap!!! JUST LOVE IT
117-144 captures the essence of the 80's new wave scene
Fan de ce groupe depuis cette époque....Merci, merci !!!!
...with the now almost entirely-unknown Mathieu Hartley on monophonic synthesizer.
So young and writing stuff like this? Baffles me.
Да это так,он как поэт)
Robert is a total genius. I hope he is doing all right now.
***** Whats wrong with Robert? I haven't heard anything
Heel fijn! Bedankt

LOLOL me & my crew
People seem to dismiss the Cure as a collect of haircuts, but Robert and Simon are incredible on their instruments. Seventeen Seconds and Faith, Simon absolutely murders with his bass lines...
This guy Affleck had a better future as a musician than as an actor.
+painkiller346 haahahahah
LOL
Definitely , and fucking hell ... I wonder what sort of diet he´s made to look like this in here . Must have been the usual "cigs & crank" one , which the other geez whose name eludes me now did for "American Psycho ".
haha
painkiller just what kind of fucking idiot are you? how funny are you? are you five man? thats robert smith, to you
found this again. buzzing
Amazing!!!
i remember (late '80s) hearing ppl refer to this genre of music briefly as "gloom"
The terms and labels have changed so many times over the years/decades. Back in 1980 when this was brand new we just called it 'new wave'. That term took on a whole different meaning after MTV happened, but in 1980 that's how I and everyone else I knew who was into the Cure referred to it.
Wish they made music like this today...
You'll fall in love with somebody else ...
Fantastic. They sounds great, y están en un pequeño escenario .
fantastique
merci
WALL of sound. Unmatched.
i made this song famous on twitter
Trudno uwierzyć że jest to nagranie na żywo. Jakoś jest znakomita. Jedna z najleprzych rzeczy jakie słyszałem tej kapeli.
My favorite album is their first but this is one of my favorite songs of theirs
shoooow
Best line-up in the history of The Cure imho. Seventeen Seconds to me is their top album.
Exactly
Great classic +++++
This song, either studio and live version, has, imho, one of the best solo Robert ever did, this version is a good proof of the beautiful guitar part
