@@GunRG I accidentally knocked a cube into one of the buttons that you need to put a cube on because of a physics glitch so that one was a little easier for me
The first time I played this map, I took one look at the third part and thought: "This looks the same as the normal test! I wonder what they did to change it? I bet the platforms disappear into the goo."
I was actually only stumped by the beginning. The portal-proof floor on the one platform fooled me about the "portalable" floor on the next one. Other than that, I was able to figure this out slowly but surely. Even the turret room (which totally caught me by surprise with the relocated slab at the bottom, forcing a slower approach).
Anyone else jump into the portal and come out super wonky? I feel like I'm flailing around without knowing which way I came out. Upside or upright??? I can't do this
had this issue and cheated a little by saving mid flight so had multiple tries to know where i had to turn. playing with controller btw, makes it even worse for me
Oh, I did it a more difficult way, lol. Instead of using that little ledge at 1:43, I balanced on the border of portals because I didn't even notice the ledge. In the turret room, I didn't take out the turrets. Instead, I shot an orange portal high up (in the left high corner at 3:17) then a blue portal on the ground. I jumped through and as I fell I shot a portal on the ground in front of the button (the floor the player is facing at 4:51) to go flying up onto the platform before quickly retreating to hide from the turrets. I then put an orange portal in the high corner that I did before and then put a blue portal on the wall in the button area (the panel as seen in 5:56). I pressed the button, through the blue portal, came out of the orange portal and as I started falling, I shot an orange portal ahead of me and blue portal below me. I went into the blue portal and out of the orange portal causing me to fly high into the air. I shot a blue portal onto the slanted panel, fell back through the orange portal and soared through the air to the block.
Yeah, there are a lot of ways to solve this turret room. I did something very similar to your method, using fall momentum between the blue and orange portals in the same corner you described to reach the platform with the button. Then, I did the same than before just after pressing the button to gain momentum and reach the higher platform with the cube. Then, I took the cube and fell down to the lower level platform while avoiding the turrets, to put the cube in front of the exit. Finally, I repeated the first step to get back to the button, activate it and exit the room behind the moving surface with the cube.
So... you could have solved the turret room even if every turret had a cage and the blue-energy-platform was broken! I would consider that super advanced version.
yeah me too, I did it quite differently though. Using a bit of cheeky ABHing, but only did it because I thought the turret platforms were wayyyyyyy too far.
@bean smell Sometimes you wanna know if others did it in a different way. Like I also did this level blind, though I felt like I did it in an unintended way. I guess it's more of a curiosity thing,
I just beat this by grabbing 3 items from the "hidden" room, took them to the turret room, destroyed the camera on the wall and used all 4 items to throw them at the turrets. It took some time and was impractical, but i'm surprised it worked lol
And I also did the last bit without taking out the turrets. You can press the first button, put one portal on diagonal surface, go back to the previous room and drop into the other portal to get shot across. Then grab the block, use it as your shield, walk forward and then drop back into the lower room. Press the second button, then portal with the block to an area next to the exit and gtfo with only a few bullets taken
Thats what I did too, I just didn't use the second button - I hugged the left wall on the upper platform, blocking the bullets, quickly dropped the block, put the portal used on the slope, then jumped down since the other portal is still behind the wall.
@@tomisvk8 I was able to make the big jump to where the cube is by shooting a portal on the tilted platform and running out of the room, then using the drop to the left of the big red button to launch myself. The timing was super tight and it took me several tries. I could drop to the lower floor with the cube and use the button to get out from there, awkwardly dodging the turrets. I never even used the moving platform that got added lmao
I beat this one, but i knew i was doing it wrong, I didnt even kill any of the turrets and it was hell. This makes so much more sense. All the sections were easy ither than the big room, i cant believe it was that simple this whole time. Good game though
Thank you so much! Good video. Chamber 18 was the hardest for me to figure out... I didn't look up any guides until this one, but it's better to not pull my hair out. :)
For the turrets, I used the protruding wall on the left end of the room to propel me into the cube's room with the help of the goo platform. Then dropped into the switch's room holding the cube. Then it was just a matter of porting back to the exit. That's definitely not the intended way but those turrets are a hassle to remove.
That's exactly what I did. I didn't even realise their was a safe spot to hide from the turrets so to me it was the only option. Honestly I think the devs intended for that method, it's the most obvious and straightforward imo
00:50 you can skip some of the intended route here, stand on the far left and theres a little bit of wall you can create a portal on. Create an entry portal above the sludge pit youre standing by. Tricky to land but I did it this way as I thought it was the only option...
Me too, took like half an hour to pull off the trick, then I went seeing this video because I was 100% sure that way was unintended and I suspected that the floor being able to receive portals was rather involved…
it's crazy how everybody completed this chamber in some different way. for example I killed one android with crazy jump where I must have perfectly time the jump to land on the platform where the android was standing. much complicated way but it worked 👍
There's a way to skip the entire turret section by placing a portal on the slanted wall thingy, running back through, and using momentum to get to the cube. Then you just get to the floor and place whichever portal was on the closed panel. I was so sure that was the only solution before watching this lol.
@sbowesuk its a walkthrough like said in the title and he doesnt say anything about first try. He only goes very slow through the parts, maybe to make it easier to inderstand idk.
1:20 This "shoot the high floor while flying through the air" part was really really hard for me even though the game was running constant 120 fps. I had to try it for maybe 25 times before finally succeeding. Is there any technically easier method for this part?
I was stuck at the beginning. I pushed around all the metal panels from the hidden room. But it made no sense. Then tried to jump around on those small metal panel gaps on the wall. Then intensly checked out the hideout room if i missed something. Then i tried with endless weird portal jumps to reach the higher floor. I decided that this chamber is bugged or to advanced.
I did the turret part by setting a poral before the diagonal button on a far ground. Then, press the button, quickly put a portal on the slope, then jump down and fling yourself to the cube. I then hug the left wall and use the cube to block the bullets, quickly drop it and place down the portal you used for the slope (so you can get back), then jump.
I'm super late to this game but it is cool how there are different solutions. I was stuck on the second move for so long and did some super janky shit, where I put the orange portal in the top left corner of the visible gray wall (the one at 1:22), then jumped through a blue portal to come halfway through and sit in the wall. From there I could shoot the blue under those piston platform things (i.e. go through the wall again). I had a feeling there was a cleaner way to do it though.
We all know why we are here, I decided to honor this game by giving it a go after many years. Got stuck on the middle part, didnt notice that little spot above second platform. Thanks for sorting that out 🥃 Cheers
I actually got to the cube by going to the highest platform one of the turrets was on, then I made two portals adjacent to each other on the really low platform, and then i jumped into one of the portals and came out of the other high enough to reach it
Had to look up this video for the last part because mine was super glitchy for some reason, my portals would randomly close mid-jump, I'd start randomly rubberbanding like I'm playing an online game with low ping and sometimes the portal would throw me forward instead of up to the point I actually thought I was doing something wrong but I just had to keep brute forcing it and reopening my portals until I got a sucessful run.
Idk if anybody is gonna see this comment, but as a portal speedrunner, i literally skipped all the turret part by grabbing that camera, and using it to let the door open, then i just portaled throught. the rest of it is as easy as the normal level
In the turret room I first used the camera to take out the 2 turrets on the right side. Then I went on the lower platform, placed 2 portals on the wall, went through and quickly placed 2 portals on the ground to boost myself up. Everything else was standard, but I never used the moving platform or took out the remaining turrets.
LOL - I cheesed the turret section so hard. You only have to take out 2, maybe even fewer. However, as of right now, the last section is super wonky for me - after the first portal jump, the girl spins around super-disorientingly through every subsequent portal.
I jumped from the first room across using the little bevels against the wall. I didnt think the ground would be usable. once on the second part I attempted to stack the 2x1 metal cubes in the corner with a pc and a bucket to try and jump ontop of the camera to get a higher look. the vertical 2x1 metal cube wouldnt fit through the gap so after 30 minutes of stacking buckets and pcs ontop of cubes, i caved and boy do i feel stupid
Did this level get changed slightly in the RTX Remix (never played before now). In the turret room there is a plasma cannon (?) which rotates round, which I used to take them out.
Wow I did the second part in a completely different way. Somehow managed to complete that part without destroying *a single one of the robots*. Man was that frustrating.
For me the first part, where you have to shoot another portal while flying, seemed to be impossible, so I spent a lot of time trying to get this metal block out of the chamber to climb on the camera and then shoot it. It didn’t wort btw, I didn’t get the vertical metal block out…
I used a muchhh diff method, u see i turned on the button to make the wall go diagonal then go to the normal level and jump on the lower platform to go to the box instantly
I cheesed the second to last room so hard. I portaled the slanted platform that comes out and jumped down in the other room to launch across, the pushed the cube as a shield so I could drop down and portal back to the previous room room.
I just came here to see if the turrets were the problem or if I was meant to somehow ignore them. I didn't think of killing them in the traditional sense, but I did kill 2 of them before this video. I also took serval dips in acid without dying. too much.
I did the turret room differently. To get to the turret closet to the entrance I jumped from the farthest wall, shooting a portal on the platform you enter on and another portal on the floor at the bottom so that I flew high out of the first platform and could land where the turret was. To get to the cube I shot two portals on the ground and then jumped from the highest turret platform.
I did this level so much harder then it should have been holy shit, the second platform I landed on the camera and it launched me or something then I swam in water to jump in a portal to get to the next and then I broke the camera and used it to fuck up one of the turrets by smackin it, then I actually did it right wa king the turrets off the map by going on the ledge thing and whooshing to the turret on the platform but it took me ages.. and then when I pushed the button I couldn’t line the portals right so it would send me flying to the cube took a bit to get right unlike mr.first-try here >:(
1:43, Now that is just bullshit, there is a few pieces sticking out of the ledge, I tried to stand on them and slid right off, so I figured: " nah this piece can't be solid, I'll just slide off as well. " I feel both stupid and cheated somehow.
The final bit fucked me up a few times because it was locking my aiming during the first portal jump. Just wait for the aiming to return before putting down the 3rd portal
I did the first half of this one the "intended way", but the turret room i chessed by just damage boosting, using the same area to the left of the angled moving wall to double fling, and by continuously pressing the button on the other side of it.
I accidentally solved the second room without even killing any of the turrets by having a portal on the wall seeing inside the little room where the button is located
I spammed portals and took out the turrets on the right side, then after a lot of jumping, portals and dying, i managed to shoot a portal from a portal into the room with the switch, skipping the other 2 turrets entirely.
@theultimatedonut It's a bug in Source Recorder. It happens in both Portal and Portal 2, in all walkthrough videos of this channel. I dunno how you didn't notice it before >:
Oof i did the extra room in such a painful way. i went past the turrets using the lower platform and hid behind the cube after getting to it with momentum. It was pain
I thought it was impossible to kill the turrets. So I spent like 2 hours trying to do it with turrets lol. I actually got pretty far was just on portal wiki and saw this.
Because test chamber 18 wasn't hard enough.

Yes, its easy
the normal chamber 18 is super easy but the advanced one
I did the other advanced levels pretty easily, but I just couldn’t do this one. Thanks!

I feel both stupid and cheated somehow.
vanilla crazy cake
I didn't think I could beat all the tullets here.

Necroposting is fun!
The first part in a nutshell: "how tf was I supposed to know that?!"
I spammed portals and took out the turrets on the right side, then after a lot of jumping, portals and dying, i managed to shoot a portal from a portal into the room with the switch, skipping the other 2 turrets entirely.
I feel so stupid. I couldn't understand how to get that frickin' box at 6:21, i was close tho'. >.>"
I was doing this in a WAY more complicated manner. Was building up loads of momentum and stuff to fly the gap and it worked
dude i didnt know how to take out the turrets so i did the entire thing with them there
1:44 lmao i didn't think i was suposed to do that 💀
thanks needed the help on the first section but i did the turrets part completely different lmao i didn’t take any of them out
@theultimatedonut It's a bug in Source Recorder. It happens in both Portal and Portal 2, in all walkthrough videos of this channel. I dunno how you didn't notice it before >:
the first three advanced levels were fun, 16 and 17 were absolute ass, 18 was pretty decent
Oof i did the extra room in such a painful way. i went past the turrets using the lower platform and hid behind the cube after getting to it with momentum. It was pain
I did not do the first half correctly, but by god did I do it
My solution was a bit different. For the bots and the long jump to the cube I used the previous zone where the big red button is. It worked.
this level makes my brain look like a peanut
Love the taste of that sweet sweet vanilla crazy cake
I thought it was impossible to kill the turrets. So I spent like 2 hours trying to do it with turrets lol. I actually got pretty far was just on portal wiki and saw this.
The is part isnt the same for me. The platform under the button and cube isnt there. Just water. I think its a bug
