As someone who's built too many models, I'm a little bummed that it's sections are already pre-opened and it doesn't actually 'grow' when it goes into NT-D mode

They couldn't do that, because there is a law that makes it illegal to build a structure which can change in height. Kind of a weird law if you think about it, why would they have such a specific law

structurally kinda impossible given that it extends in height too when it opens up. More moving parts = more chance of failure
