Corker is hesitant when describing the U.S. position in a global sense. He is soft peddling the congressional support for Trump without mentioning his precarious position as president. Surprised Trump would allow Corker to attend Davos due to his clear opposition to the president. Corker is trying to apologize for Trump's actions.

America first, for example...Syria and America are both in a starving situation (not enough food), Trump would decide, before he sends the food to Syria, Trump will make sure his people are eating first before he sends food to Syria. How easy can that be? One cannot be a leader without thinking what will be the outcome of his decision. It has to be the people first before anyone else. His policy. What is it to argue about?

I have watched many discussions on this topic or closely related to it; mostly we the Americans talk in them but our real contribution is much less than what others bring to the table in the short time they are given. Everyone agrees that the economic suffering - jobs etc. - are going to become worse as time progresses. "America First" is a populist slogan - populist because it lacks substance in terms of plan and policy and is more about leveraging the people's suffering and ignorance - that should be rightfully be the slogan for any country if it means and does what is says. The economic suffering in America, mainly the job situation, is going to become worse over time, mainly due to technology taking over human tasks. this happened during industrialization and surely, going to happen again now. If there is any solution that can ameliorate this problem, it is education, building new knowledge, adaptability, skils etc. etc. But, I have not heard a single speech yet that even remotely talks about it. Everyone is bothered about globalization. Globalization will be a problem if the learning and skills-building happens elsewhere in the world and America is left behind. The tax cut is based on the principle of corporates creating jobs. But, who is going to do the job? A population that is more interested in management and administrative jobs or a population that can flip burgers?? In the whole tax and the upcoming budget, I would like to see how much incentive is there for the students to opt for STEM. What America should be doing is to heavily subsidize Americans in education and create a national atmosphere of learning science and technology. With the cost of education constantly going up, exorbitant as it is today, who but a few have the capacity to opt for it; and, those who have the capacity would rather become managers. Without putting the right policies and incentives for education the slogan of "America First" is a distraction at best.
