  • This is my review of the Montane Podium Pull-On Smock & Pants, a set of ultra lightweight waterproof jacket & trousers for trail and ultra runners that weigh just under 210g combined! What waterproofs are you currently wearing and how much do they weigh? Let me know in the comments below and remember to include the size so we can compare the weights :)
As with all the gear I test on my channel these were sent to me by the brand, but they have absolutely no control over what I say in this review.

Just ordered a Salomon Bonatti Waterproof Jacket not sure on weight yet.
With the trousers put a carrier bag over you’re foot then pull the leggings over much easier over runners. Use this when motor biking 😉

Ive an OMM halo smock which is excellent and fine and light at 95g, trews are decathlon kalenji, they come in at 164g, they have seen me through some horrendous conditions in our local mountains, they dont pack down small enough for my liking but work very well for the budget end of the market.

Arcteryx Norvan SL Shakedry, 125g. Been very happy with it this last year. Great fit, great hood, good cuffs, never wets out and I find breathes better than my previous jackets: OMM Aether eVent, OMM Kamleika, inov-8 Raceshell, Berghaus Vapourlight Smock, Montane Minimus, Rab eVent something or other can't remember the name.

Very informative review as usual Claire . Both items are quite good quality and it would be great to have both in the bag . I liked the filming of you under the heavy rain in the Peak District .

Nice video. Thanks for the upload.
I currently use a Salomon Bonatti Pro jacket (size L, weight 200g) and Salomon Bonatti Waterproof trousers (size L, weight 190g). I'm just over 6ft and the jacket and trousers fit well. I've been impressed with both jacket and trousers, which have both been exposed to heavy rain and strong winds and performed well. Over time, I've used various waterproof jackets and trousers, some less good than others. The OMM Halo Jacket, for example, I found subpar: The durability was not great (initially it kept me dry, but then after only a short time it started to reliably let in rain); and the zip, when fully done up, fitted badly around my chin area: It was uncomfortable and irritating.

Still using an old Berghaus paclite and some Rab trousers. Thinking about getting something lighter for events at some point.
Top tip for full zip jackets, I'll sometimes stuff them away with the zip half done up so they can be put on much like a pull on. I particularly do this with my Montane windproof. I guess it's the opposite to leaving your trouser zips undone!

I generally don't have a superlight kit as i has to do double duty for hiking/backpacking trips. All weights below are for size small.
La Sportiva Run JKT - 198 g (finisher jacket from last year's UltraDolomites)
OMM Kamleika Jacket - 245 g (when I know it's going to get nasty)
    Salomon Bonatti WP Pant - 160 g

Thanks very much for this review. I not a great fan of wearing a jacket when running as I always feels just as wet on the inside when running. This looks ideal for a quick shower protection. Will use your link in the description

I have a cheap and weighty Regatta packaway jacket and pants, they're dirt cheap and they work for me.

    Berghaus Vapourlight Hyper Smock 2.0.

I have one of those Berghaus Vapourlight Smocks but don't choose to use it very often as I find it an absolute sweatbox to run in. I'd agree it's useful for "just in case" moments though.
On the other hand Shakedry has been a pleasant surprise as it's almost as light, breathes better, doesn't wet out, and Arcteryx fits me great. Downside is price and potential durability - although no problems with a year's regular use so far... . .

@@steffenchristmas1987 You're right, the Vapourlight is a sweatbox. Thats why I mainly pull it on as a windbreaker rather than a waterproof, whilst it also ticks the mandatory kit box.

This review was timely as I've been looking for a very lightweight waterproof jacket for running in Summer.
Be thankful you're a size 12. For those of us above a size 16, we usually don't have a choice but to get men's sizes which are a horrible fit. In my case, the shoulders are always too broad, sleeves too long and the hips are way too narrow. And the link shows sizes up to size M

    Dynafit Shakedry 150g
btw. Montane Vortex make excellent cold rain gloves
What is your experience with Pertex fabric? I find it wets through very fast.

    Berghaus hyper 100. It weighs 100 g.
    Is Montane breathability good?

@@wildgingerruns Actually it is men's size medium, 97 grams. Packs very small. I have it for two years. Fairly durable for such thin garment. Very satisfied customer 😀
