  • Hello The Way We Wore Fans,
Guess what?!?! Doris is clearing out some her private collection, and the amount of pieces she has is astounding, specifically her Hollywood memorabilia. Doris prior to opening up The Way We Wore in LA Doris used to rent period garments to film and television productions when her business was in San Francisco, even after moving to LA Doris continues to work with renown costume designers from Sandy Powell, Jenny Beaven (Cruella), Arianne Phillips (Once Upon A Time in Hollywood), Mark Bridges (Phantom Thread), Ruth Carter (Coming 2 America), and Mitchell Travers (The Eyes of Tammy Faye). We hope you enjoy this episode and finding a new appreciation for these costumes in the films.
    Almost Famous: Betsey Faith Heiman
    A Beautiful Mind: Rita Ryack
    Down with Love: Daniel Orlandi
The Notorius Bettie Page: John A. Dunn
The Legend of Bagger Vance: Judianna Makovsky
    Pleasantville: Judianna Makovsky
    The Blue Dahlia: Edith Head
The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour: Bob Mackie and Ray Aghayan
    Costume Designers for your reference:
Walter Plunkett: Gone with the Wind
    Adrian: The Wizard of Oz
    Orry Kelly: Gypsy
    Travis Banton: Limehouse Blues
    Howard Greer: Bringing Up Baby
    Irene Sharif: Cleopatra
Edith Head won an outstanding 8 Academy Awards (Samson and Delilah, The Heiress, A Place in the Sun, All About Eve, Roman Holiday, Sabrina, The Facts of Life, and The Sting). She was appointed chief designer at Paramount in 1938 until 1967. Her work spans five decades and transcends time as the performances marriage to costumes leave movie watchers in complete awe.

‘part of the process of letting go’ ... I am now mid way through my 60th year and putting a brush with cancer behind me. Doris you are such an inspiration to me. I have learned so much from you, your movies are so full of illuminating detail and you share your love of costume so vividly. I hope I am able to be joyful and celebrate ‘letting go’ of my past too, looking ahead to the next great adventure! xxx

It must be so very hard to let these pieces go.... I don't know how you do it! All your years of hunting and collecting will allow each of these pieces - and the people behind them the kudos they deserve. Amazing work Doris, now time for you to sit back and watch them carried forth into their new dominions.
Hurry back and see us all again in NZ! Thankyou.
