How long would it take Terraria's Eater of Worlds to eat a world? Игры
Skeletron prime is better at eating worlds than eater
Note: yes if Eater only ate 80% of the world (“80% filled in”) the sky islands would still be there but he can’t fly unfortunately
what about the destroyer? does the extra length count for anything or is it faster?
what about the eater of souls
thank you for your research sir *salute
unfortunately?
You forget something in your calculation, is either the eater of world can be "full" and have a time to digest what he actually eat, or if the eater of world is actually capable of split himself yo speed up the process.
I always figured that, canonically, the massive pits in the corruption were from him slowly eating through the planet.
Snack time!
(eats the entire corruption biome and then dies/leaves cuz there's no more corruption)
Cum! /cum/ckum/kum/khum/ckhum
mmnm yummy purple
the corruption is inspired by HP Lovecraft's story "The Color Out of Space", a story where one day a meteor of an entirely new color that doesnt exist on earth lands and begins corrupting everything around the crash site. I think the corruption pits are meant to be the landing sites of the meteors, which would be the shadow orbs.

Look, you eat one planet, and you’re suddenly known as “the eater of worlds”
It can be hard to live up to such expectations!
It wasn't even a big planet! It was about the size of Pluto!
I built a massive, sprawling, and rich ecosystem all with just my teeth and a dream. Do they call me the Bringer of Life? No.
I create crystalline shards of _unbelievable_ monetary value, stuffed with useful loot. But do they call me the Creator of Wealth? No.
I dig tunnels as far as any man, woman, or child could ever need, connecting the world together as one. Still I ask you, do they call me the Tunnel Maker? No.
*But you eat* *_one world!_*
Is that the lore for him? I don’t know his
This is BY FAR the best comment thread, you guys made my day.
Wouldn't be quicker if someone or something split the Eater?
Maybe that's why it's the eater of worlds, the more anything tries to prevent it from eating the world it ends up just eating faster
Eater is 72 segment long in expert+ mode. In order to exist, each splits body must contain atleast 2 segment. Each splits require a segment to be destroyed. That is an average of 3 segment for every splits body. 72÷3=24. So if someone splits Eater perfectly, it would make the process 24 time faster at most.
maybe sand or falling blocks in general
Tbh now that I think about it the calculations might just change drastically (boulders, traps and other stuff) may split or even kill it which means it will also depend on difficulty
Time required for EoW to eat the world / # of segments
My theory is that the eater of worlds that we fight hasn’t actually grow to its full size yet, because those chasms in the corruption were created by other eaters of worlds and those chasms are a lot bigger than the eater we fight
I think it’s a split off from/child of the true eater of worlds, which was killed by The Hero and its body formed the Corruption
The shadow orbs are eggs or something
@@cara-seyun nah, he’s moon lord’s spine.

This is like saying that woodchucks are bad because they don't chuck wood.
That just begs the question
How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
@@deathpie24
"How much worlds could an Eater of Worlds eat if an Eater of Worlds could eat worlds"
yeah doesn't have the same ring to it.
"woodchuck" is the name of a species (not even the real name, which is "groundhog"), and as it's all one word it doesn't necessarily refer to the specific act of chucking wood but can just be a cute name for it that vaguely refers to what it does, digging into the earth
"eater of worlds" is not necessarily the creature's *name* but a *title*, a title which very clearly refers to the act of consuming worlds and, unlike woodchuck referring to a species refers to one specific entity, so it should be more accurate with its meaning
conclusion: eater of worlds should be called groundhog
@@agfasdfjkgf2198 Which raises the question...
How much ground would a groundhog hoh if a groundhog could hog ground?
@@Surg-265 Well groundhogs are animals, and animals usually reserve some amount of territory. So, if we just use google quickly...
Google didn't actually give me a proper answer, but it says they're quite territorial, so presumably they would hog a lot of ground
I don't think eating layer by layer is fastest. I think the Eater should circle around the outer edges, and slowly work his way in towards the center. Instead of doing 180 degree turns, he only has to do 90 degree turns this way, and may be able to fully preserve his speed through them, if you allow him to bank his turns.
Possibly even better, dont do a straight 90 or a banked 90, have him slowly do massive ovals to chew through the world, then he could very easily preserve speed with only a bit of cleanup at the end
@@arrowb.8438 sure, there would be a bit of cleanup, but the eater cant fly through the world, so he cant actually do the oval strat
The reason it's so slow and doesn't actually eat any blocks is... Well, what do you think happens to world files when you delete them? Forgive it for being sluggish, it just ate.
So it does eat worlds, just behind the scenes
what about crimson worlds
@@astrylleaf It eats them too. And purified ones as well.
The eater of files.
wait....
Does that mean the Trash Can on desktops is actually the eater of worlds!?!?!
its also the one that ate the tunnels in the corruption, thats why no more tunnels are made after you kill it
honestly 100 days to eat a island with multiple biomes and locations is pretty impressive
I could do it in 38 minutes
I mean if some random ass alien landed on our planet and we had ~3 months before it literally devoured everything, I dont think anyone would be relieved by that amount of time...
@@kirogudoesnthavelastname2213 Well the terrarian can kill it with a gun in under 5-ish minutes so as long as it lands in America, we should be safe
@@pilotmoo2449 What rarity would you make a Tomahawk Missile?
@@TheMuffinman191 I really don't know much about rarities in terraria so... purple?
While EoW's thickness is technically unknown, he looks like he could be roughly cylinder-shaped. That allows us to measure how long it would take him to eat a 3d world
terraria comic?
This was honestly the weirdest part of the video. I know things like flatworms exist, but it just seems strange that if you don't know a worms thickness you wouldn't default to treating it as a cylinder. It's the shape you'd expect for a creature like this (think of any giant burrowing worm you've seen in movies and games and such). Even if it isn't a perfect cylinder, it should still be "close enough" to get a ballpark estimate.
I mean you literally see a 3d eater in terraria cover art for the console edition at least

well im sure the eater of worlds could eat a world faster than a person
red during the next update: *sees this video* huh... what if we make another special seed where the eater of worlds actually eats the world
seed where every projectile is explosive
imagine the destroyer destroying worlds
and you would need to kill it before it, you know, eats the world.
Everscream actually screams and the Martian Saucer actually sauces you
The eater would grow from eating hundreds of blocks, effectively making your measurements useless, id say he can eat a whole world in 25 minutes if left alone and noone can prove me wrong because the game had to be balanced so he can neither grow nor eat...
Most likely this would increase the length of its tail, not the width of its head. This would be irrelevant since it only eats things with its head.
The EoW can split
@@egwenealvereiscool7726 It's like that apple snake game!
I don't know what it's called, but it probably just 'snake' if I had to guess.
@@egwenealvereiscool7726 increasing the length of his tail means he has more segments to split. And since each segment can grow its own head and eat it's actually multiplying the speed at which it can eat a world exponentially.
@@jacen7911 but it isn't attacked by anyone.
Finally someone answering the real questions
Can we get a sequel where we see how fast a Master Mode worm split optimally (as many of the shortest lengths as possible) can eat a small world
just add his measurements and divide them by 72
the range was 78-108 and their median is 93
93 divided by 72 = 1.291666667 days
which I think would re earn him the title eater of worlds
unless you want him to eat the earth
to scale a single terraria island is . 0000000000006826% of earth
so it would take a very very long time
@@cancerouscorndog6425 You can't divide the eater into single segments. It has 72, that's correct, but you need three in total for a single split. Two for its survival, one to be destroyed.
@@cobaltchromee7533I know but the commenter says as many shortest lengths as possible
@@cancerouscorndog6425 but you can't have a one length segment. Shortest one is 2 parts.
@@cobaltchromee7533 thats correct. im wondering, if there were 36 worms in a small world, how fast would it be destroyed.
im not sure if im thinking of modded terraria or not, but the chopped up worms move and turn faster? also not sure how many blocks are on average in a small world.
There is a mod that enable the EoW to actually eat the world, it would be a good idea to make the next video about you using that mod and see how long it takes to eat the entire map.
Maybe the name "Eater of Worlds" is just the name given to him because of what the corruption does to a planet. Incase you don't know, the corruption takes over planets and then destroys them.
So maybe that's why he is named that.
Also I loved this video.
It would have been cool if any blocks which touched the eater got corrupted. Like stone become ebonstone, etc.
That would be devastating
@@thoracis not really tho considering he just decides hes bored and leaves if your not in the corruption biome
back then in mobile like 1.1 times when the ocram was the final boss before plantera and golem the corruptors could turn the stones and dirt to corrupt version of themselves with their spit
The corrupter of islands?
@@gdlifesteal5824ell if he converted blocks to corruption, he would he able to make more corruption biomes and not despawn
hey i mean, in hardcore, if the eater of worlds kills you, the world gets deleted, so technically he ate your world, just in a roundabout way
"However, the head hancho himself doesn't actually eat worlds, because the developers never gave him the ability to destroy blocks"
Don't say that out loud, you're going to give modded difficulty developers ideas.
I shall get to work when I know how to code.
Good luck
(Mod Name might be something like “Eater of worlds but he actually eats worlds”.)
108 days to eat a world is actually scarily fast. It's roughly 3 months. And that's not even considering what it'd be like living in such a world. Depending on how it went about it, you'd experience apocalypse at the halfway point. It'd be terrified if some large wormy boi started chomping up the world.
I beleive the name comes from the fact that the eater is the king of the corruption, and the corruption itself can eat worlds fairly quickly
ye
This is like an “if a wood chuck could chuck wood” question.
this is the most "well actually" video I've watched in a while...
was a nice vid, keep it up
this channel is like the kurzgesagt of terraria
having a really random question and solving it because why not
Isn’t the For the Worthy Eater of Worlds larger than the regular Eater?
What if we split him to have as many heads as possible?
That Eater of Worlds better be eating the motorway with the speed it's going at or it's gonna be in serious trouble!
I’m guessing that if the eater of worlds split it world eventually grow into multiple full length one if given time, meaning that there could be hundreds or even thousands of them all eating the world
Thank you for peoperly captioning your videos, I'm sure its something that goes quite thankless but is incredibly appreciated.
That top speed you got isn't actually the top speed of the EOW. When you die, it starts going MUCH faster. For lore reasons, I like to think it goes slow only because it can then more easily hunt the godlike creature trying to kill it. Also, I believe it's meant to be split, and as it eats, it grows in length, allowing it to split again. So, the more it eats, the faster it can eat, as it splits into multiple worms. That's why it's the eater of worlds. It's a being which can replicate exponentially.
Exactly what I thought!
That furlongs per fortnight bit was hilarious this is how I'm measuring speeds from now on
Since the eater is a circle, that'd mean its height is its diameter. Which means we have the area problem solved.
Now how long he eats the real world is the question
I want to see that worm try to eat the core of this planet, with its temperature ranging being between 4,400 - 6,000 Celsius.
But then...
Worms are immune to lava and call survive in literal hell, so ig that's something
@@pilotmoo2449 the core of earth is just a really hot ball of metal, how much damage is that?
@@idkwhattosay696 35 with the obsidian rose
@@idkwhattosay696 35 with the obsidian rose
@@pilotmoo2449 well, the eater is probably still going to die trying to eat the core (the core is still much, MUCH bigger than a large terraria “world”)
Imagine the new early game cave exploration meta being the EoW
Honestly considering it can be split which another comment already mentions...irl it would be quite terrifying , the more it gets attacked the more it would split and the faster it would eat and realistically the more it would eat...the more it would grow I feel like it could be caught and sealed off to prevent confrontation and thus minimize damage , and that seal could be represented by the orbs you break to spawn it in and since there's multiple it might as well be a smaller version or a weakened one. There's probably lore that has stuff explained better but this would make so much sense as well.
why is your pfp a waifu
"That measly thing, devouring a planet? Ridiculous." -Yharim
My theory about its name is that it’s only a catalyst for the consumption for the world. The corruption is the part that “eats” we don’t get to see this happen in game but I like to imagine that the eater would go across land destroying human settlements. If it gets spilt apart those part eventually grow bigger, they dig holes and their eyes disperse a mucus (vile spit) across the walls That will start to corrupt the land (in the same way corrupters use to, just on a large scale). Plus imagine being a normal human against this thing
lore wise it says that the corruption is supposed to corrupt the world and destroy it, which is where the bosses name comes from. And the crimson was supposed to corrupt and take over the world, again the name of the biomes boss
Thank you terrasteel! I couldn’t sleep at night not knowing the answer to this.
I would probably say that the Eater of Worlds is shaped a lot like a worm, meaning if you cut him perfectly in half, you would see a circle.
One problem is the arc that it turns is a semi circle and not a 180 degree “snap”, so realistically speaking it needs to back track to make the perfect distance for it to go to the next layer.
you seem to have forgotten a crucial thing
you can have more than one eater of worlds! Not only can it split, but you can simply spawn more of them
god the editing on these videos are so good
I’m sure someone already made a mod that makes him really eat worlds (which also heals him)
That’s like asking how much wood a woodchuck could chuck if a woodchuck chuck wood.
This reminded me of one time where I was browsing TModloader and found a mod that makes worm bosses actually eat blocks.
love the eater of worlds diagram you made on how they eat
I like to think there’s actually like 1000 eater of worlds and all they do is eat whatever they go into
someone make this into a mod where you have to beat terraria within that time period, and part of your world gets deleted slowly
Well its more like the corruption biome is slowly eating the world, and he just sort of rules it.
i wanna believe that the eater of worlds would grow if it ate blocks, split on its own, and then keep duplicating like this until it can tear through the planet at a pretty quick pace
The toxicarp seems to have been buffed in 1.4.4, can you make a video covering it?
I appreciate the "Destroyer of NPCs" note in the altered wiki page, such s good touch
As others have said, I'd also love to know how the calculations change if you include all the possible heads one eater can make.
Nice EoW anatomy.
10/10
If something ate the world in 3-4months irl, im pretty sure we would consider it a fast demise and probably go to the cyborg and buy a bunch of mini nukes
What if the eater of worlds we fight is a very early state of it and it gets biger the more it eats
and that's a theory, a game theory (banger video i loved it)
For figuring out 3d, you can take a guesstimate with worms typically having a diameter that is around the same as their width to get a theoretical 3d size to figure out how long ittl take to eat 3d earth
In the Eater of Worlds defense, not many people have eaten a planet.
Speak for yourself
@3twibles4sweetrevenge was able to do it in 38 minutes!
Love the sneaky "Destroyer of NPCs" during the wiki segment
I always assumed the title of "Eater of Worlds" was just that, a title. Because he was a giant monstrosity that was boring through the world. Not a mention of its capabilities.
I'm also convinced the player character's "world" is just a tiny island, which is why it's only a few miles across at maximum and shows zero curvature.
This can be answered with a question. What is the reason you start an island?
I can't wait for your next theory about how long it would take the Devourer of Gods to actually devour a god
there is a mod that makes the 2 worms destroy blocks and when i saw the title i thought you were going to spawn one and just let it chomp
I mean, you can safely assume the thickness of the eater is probably the same as its width. Worms are typically circular in cross-section afterall. Using that for calculation i wonder how long it'd take him to eat earth lol.
That food in shit out eow anatomy picture caught me off guard 😂
My headcanon is that the EoW functions like the worms in the Wadden Sea, eating the ground, filtering out the nutrients and pooping it out again :^)
0:49 so basically the problem boils down to how long it takes the eater of worlds to touch every part of the world with his head
I love how in the wiki page for eater of islands the destroyer of npcs is there
I know this isnt vanilla terraria canon, but i wanna put it out here anyways.
So in the Calamity Mod, the lore for Eater of Worlds says it cant actually eat worlds and is just a moniker for the monster because its part of old folklore or something like that. Its a great beast, but its not THAT great
Who in their right mind cares about 14yo edgelord fanfiction that is Calamity lore?

You try eating even just an island in under 1/3 of a year and then you can judge my man here
i think as the eater of worlds he gets hungry allot going from planet to planet, so i suspect that he would like to take his time with each one.
The sight of thick eater
I want to see you try & eat an island!!! I think a few months is pretty efficient XD
Genuinely though, if EoW was spawned in at the start of your playthrough but didn't attack you until you hit it & you only had so much time before it at your entire world, I think it finishing the job in 31.2-43.2 hours is plenty sufficient! Now, in no way would it take a player that long to beat the boss but even still, it will leave an unmistakable mark on your world!
4:22 I like how yoy changed Destroyer's name too
That was almost like a Vsauce of Terraria
I always thought that the bosses name was a reference to the corruption itself, eating away at the games other byomes
Imagine in some updates they made eow to really eat the world

If you managed to split the whole eater into 2 segment eaters, he would eat the island in about 34 real life minutes or 1.41 terrarian days but i probably got it wrong cause i always mess up math.
