Honestly this amazing, I love Nico for Astrid she suits it well same for Hiccup all these characters are amazing and the ppl who play them. I'm so excited for the live action. This is going to be an amazing thing for this series and I hope they can continue the animated version for httyd
I don’t understand why Nico Parker’s casting as Astrid is getting so much criticism, especially when other characters, like Fishlegs, have undergone much bigger changes. A fully white Viking boy is now played by a Polynesian actor, and hardly anyone is talking about it. Why is Nico singled out so much?To me, Astrid still looks "white" (her mom is half Black and white, and her dad is fully white), and her dirty blonde hair actually works well for live-action. Plus, Nico’s ancestry is English, if people are concerned about Scandinavian roots, it’s worth remembering Vikings traveled and settled across Europe, including England. And about that, weren’t the Berk characters in the animated movies meant to sound Scottish? So, people claiming “accuracy” for the live-action while ignoring how much the animated movies played fast and loose with historical and cultural accuracy feels kind of hypocritical. The original HTTYD films blended Viking culture with fantasy and random creative choices, like giving Vikings Scottish accents and the other one American accents. And it worked because they weren’t aiming for realism, they were telling a fun, imaginative story. I think it’s unfair to hold the live-action movie to a higher standard of “accuracy” when the animated series wasn’t accurate either. But don’t get me wrong, I’m also not fully on board with some of the cast members not being fully white. I would have loved a more realistic film with Scottish Vikings fighting and befriending dragons. What bugs me more is how the live-action film seems to copy the animated movie too closely, down to Toothless looking exactly the same. This could be a chance for them to make the film more historically accurate, taking some inspiration from a movie like The Northman, which accurately depicts Viking culture and landscapes. If they’re going to lean into the Scandinavian roots, they could draw from that realism and still keep the fantasy elements ofc. I wish they’d taken more creative risks to make this version feel unique, like how the animated movies reinvented the books. That’s what made the original HTTYD so special, it took inspiration and built something new. I do like some changes, though, like the twins not being identical and Astrid’s look being slightly different. It feels more grounded and less cartoony while still keeping the heart of the story.
Astrid is the 2nd main character and extremely popular compared to Fishlegs, that’s why. The fans were wanting for blonde blue eyed actress to get play her and were rightfully pissed! 🥱
@@SeanWalker15 Yeah, you're allowed to be pissed, I get it-I'm a bit annoyed too, especially also since we’re getting a remake and still no new 'School of Dragons' game. But youse shouldn’t focus on just one character because they’re more popular. Even if Fishlegs isn’t as popular as Astrid, for crying out loud, he’s played by a Polynesian actor, which is a bigger change. It feels kind of hypocritical to single out Astrid while ignoring Fishlegs’ casting. If no one’s complaining about that, then it’s only fair to leave Astrid alone too, or just go watch the show and the original films.
It looks really awesome because it looks like it'll actually follow the original story exactly...but why do we have to change Astrid? Don't speak for others, just because the actress who will play Astrid is not blonde like her original character, does not mean that she can give a bad performance of the character in the movie, we have to be thankful that Disney is not the one working on this live action movie, because if it were, the actress would surely be black, like many of Disney's live action movies: "Ariel, Pinocchio's Fairy Godmother, etc..."

Agree. She also doesn't look out of place, which was one of my biggest fears. And if you look closely she even has dark blond hair (as seen in the few loose strands). It just looks like brown because of the way it's styled. The tighter a braid and the smaller the strands for said braid, the darker the hair looks like (I know that from my own experience. I'm dark blond but in not perfect lighting or in tight braids it almost looks brown).
