Not only that, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a depiction of a divorce and a kids movie before it also shows kids that yeah two people can get divorced but still keep a healthy relationship
They had a serious message in an awful and unserious movie. If you want to watch a good and fun kids movie about divorce, then watch Ms. Doubtfire instead. Don't waste time on the Spellbound movie with its awful humor, horrible animation, infuriating songs, etc.
The big problem with the film is that message/twist was poorly set up that it came out of nowhere and came too late in the film. The only hint we got was when they were crossing the desert. Personal fixes: -Have the King and Queen's marriage be political. -Have lines of dialogue hinting at the King and Queen's conflict. (eg. Nazara being annoyed of monsters causing havoc with Bolinar replying saying it's the same as it was when they were humans). -Have the monsters hate each other from the very beginning and over the course the film set aside their differences for the sake of their daughter.
What movie where you watching? I called that ending from the very first tunnel scene. Also just because they weren't in love with each other anymore doesn't mean they hated each other. They didn't work as a couple anymore but they where clearly very friendly and still co-rulers at the end of the movie. Having their marriage be political also ruins the entire point they even said that didn't bring the best out of each other anymore which clearly means they did at one point. Also they're not going to put a fucking political marriage in a children's movie. Its meant to be a realistic scenario in a magical setting and told in a magical way hence the monsters but a child is not going to understand the parents had a political marriage.
The whole adventure is a metaphor for couple therapy: -in the tunnel they harm each other with their words and relearn to communicate; -in the desert they fight and put their kids in the middle of it and they learn how to cooperate for their behalf; -they remember they are parents (literally). Also imo the marriage shouldn't be political, IRL love comes and goes, it happens and I'm happy they're not pushing the "stick it with someone I hate for the kids" agenda. It's not the divorce who hurts the child, it's how the parents handle it that does irreparable damage.
If you want divorce to be related, have a loving relationship go sour. It doesn’t need to be political marriage, as it’s basically a reflection into most divorce cases out there in todays society. And the movie visually shows how annoyed Nazara is by the havoc that her parents are causing, through both literary and figurative representations.
You can see the hint in the end. The first song in start of the movie talk about how they are not her parent anymore but litteral monster. Their fight broke the house again and again when Ellian try all she can to limit the problem . That a direct hint to why they transform in the first place. That also why in the end she broke. Too much for her. The idea of everything by magic will return, but it's not that simple. They allways argue all the time and never act lovely to the other. Not even once. Only in the Ellian memory and they act well with the other only for her. There is no good moment at all in the two parents. There is hint, you just need the end for seeing the whole. The whole spell and monster part is a direct metaphor of two parents that fight all the time, broke their house, familly and they became human only after realized how bad they became and finally accept that it's time to stop.
The exact same way every divorced couple can get married and then stop getting along. They literally said they stopped bringing out the best in each other. Which means at one point they felt they did bring out the best and loved each other. Yall do understand that people can grow apart and stop working as a couple but that doesn't mean they never loved each other. Thats literally half the point of the movie. I don't think any of you payed attention at all. And they clearly dont hate each other at the end either. They're very friendly for exes
Despite all of this, a part of me really thought that there was a sign of treason against the King and Queen. I thought someone followed them to the dark forest and put the spell on them intentionally and get rid of the princess after that is finished. I believed that it was the captain of the guard.
Captain of the guard is basically child service where they will intervene on behalf of the child if things get real messy. They also represent those that look from outside, seeing the mess that requires intervention to bring peace and stability back.
They can't support that their child face some reallity they didn't like. But divorce is present all the time with children like Ellian in the middle. Overprotect children do not serve them.
Because a healthy marriage is something one should aim for, and this movie hates that. The creators are bitter people who want to make the world worse. Divorces do happen, but it should never be seen as an inevitability. People shouldn't throw themselves into life long commitments without thinking, they need to be choosy about who they marry.
@@9751matt That's not what this is at all. This movie is showing what happens when a marriage ISN'T healthy. Not every marriage is happily ever after, and sometimes it just can't be fixed. For some marriages, divorce IS inevitable because if you stay in a marriage where you and your partner legitimately don't love each other, it hurts the kids you are staying together for. They tried to make it work, and the daughter tried to get them to make it work, but they just can't. As far being choosy about who to marry, people make mistakes. The whole theory about Ellian's parents being an arranged marriage aside (which does still happen today, btw), people can make mistakes. People can change. At 30-40 (the rough age range for Ellian's parents) you might not be the same person you were in your 20's. When people change, they can fall out of love with each other. That's not a guarantee, but it can happen, and it's alright. It's not a flaw to recognize when something is flawed, and it's not a flaw to take a step back and say "well shit, this isn't working. Maybe we can work together better, apart." Some people DO genuinely co-parent better when they are out of the relationship. As I said in another comment, divorce is the end of a marriage, but it's not always the end of the relationship. You can absolutely remain friends with your child's other parent and still work together to make each other's lives better and do what's best for the child. I've even heard stories of people who meet their current spouse through their former spouse and got their blessing. The point of the movie is to show what happens when you and your partner fight and pull your kid into it. It's mostly for the children who are watching their parents fight and argue and destroy everything around them right now. The movie isn't trying to tear families apart, it's trying to bring them together by letting you know it's okay to BE apart. It's trying to let you know that your children need parents who protect and guide them more than they need parents who pretend to still be in love.
This movie had so much more potential. Very mid in my opinion. I know it’s family friendly but that twist wasn’t that much of a twist so much as it was predictable. Beautifully animated tho
Not only that, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a depiction of a divorce and a kids movie before it also shows kids that yeah two people can get divorced but still keep a healthy relationship

Not gunna lie, would have loved to see what she would have looked like as a monster. Fluffy baby!

From the stressed part, I’d say their marriage was arranged.

Why else would a king and queen marry but have a hard time getting along?
I’d say definitely
