So just make sure whatever seafood you buy is properly processed for raw consumption and it should be fine. So if you live next to the coast where you can get them super fresh, fresh crab is yum! Outside of crab season and farther away from the coast, frozen crab is safer.
Nah fresh crabs is a must for me. It'll not taste fishy and will last longer. But if it's off season then I guess frozen is fine, just make sure you're getting your crabs from a good place because ya can't really trust eating raw frozen food.

Actually eating sushi or raw fish is a bit different to raw crab. Raw crab comes with its own set of food poisoning risks which may be worse than sushi.

If you’re eating it raw it needs to have been frozen- it’s nothing to do with the freshness but because fish/crustaceans can have parasites in them- cooking would kill them, but if you’re eating it raw they’ll be in there and could cause you harm- so freezing the fish takes it to a temp where any parasites die and you’re good to go

The FDA actually recommends freezing seafood that will be eaten raw. Freezing kills parasites. As long as you follow proper procedure when thawing, your risk of getting sick is lower when eating previously frozen seafood.

Some bacteria can live at a very low temperature that requires heat to kill while some can be killed through freezing cold temperature. Moreover, in my culture we use raw crabs to marinate, it serves as great side dish! Yours looks tempting for me 😅

U can go down to an actual fish market and get fresh fish as well as fresh crab, shrimp, and lobster
If you’re eating it raw it needs to have been frozen- it’s nothing to do with the freshness but because fish/crustaceans can have parasites in them- cooking would kill them, but if you’re eating it raw they’ll be in there and could cause you harm- so freezing the fish takes it to a temp where any parasites die and you’re good to go
Flash freezing is an alternative to cooking. That’s why when making sushi/ sashimi you have to use frozen fish

Wait I think it’s supposed to be the opposite, I think you’re not meant to eat raw meats after they’ve been frozen (and thawing) because that actually enables bacteria to grow, you’re supposed to eat it fresh if you want it raw
The FDA actually recommends freezing seafood that will be eaten raw. Freezing kills parasites. As long as you follow proper procedure when thawing, your risk of getting sick is lower when eating previously frozen seafood.

Here’s a well written explanation from Reddit for you: “The FDA requires MOST fish species to be frozen in a home freezer environment for 7 days, blast freezer environment for a couple of days, or nitrogen/ammonia freezer for 24 hours to kill parasites that may be living in the fish prior to raw consumption. This means that frozen fish in the grocery store is actually safe to use for sushi.”
Fresh seafood that is labeled sushi grade (an identifier used to mean the seafood went through a freezing process to kill parasites) or labeled safe for raw consumption is ok to eat raw from a fish market and will have gone through one of the forms of freezing to kill the parasites. Still fresher than frozen from a grocery store market if that’s what you want. And just as safe. People in the business recommend buying a whole fish and filleting it yourself instead of buying cuts even if those cuts are labeled safe tho. Either way I was not saying you can’t eat them frozen from market. I was clearly answering a question from the video…

I don’t think freezing it would kill all the bacteria, well it’s depending. Some bacteria can live at a very low temperature that requires heat to kill while some can be killed through freezing cold temperature. Moreover, in my culture we use raw crabs to marinate, it serves as great side dish! Yours looks tempting for me 😅
It has to be frozen in a special freezer I'm assuming, sushi freezers are -40°C which kills bacteria.
