The major difference this year is he has embraced a shoot first mentality. Earlier in his career he was trying to be too perfect with passes when the Devils needed him to be a goal scorer. He is still dishing out some assists but his shot total has went way up. The sky is the limit for Hughes. It's fun watching the video and seeing all the different ways he is scoring. One timers, slap shots, wrist shots, rebounds, bank shots, deflections, backhands. He is silky smooth hitting the five hole. "Lets Go Devils"
His wrist shot came out of nowhere, and it's what makes him so lethal now. He can pass as well as anyone, but he also possesses a wicket release. It really makes him that much more of a threat.
As a Sabres fan I believe the Sabres have a bright future, but I can see NJ winning a lot of cups. Add Nemec and Luke Hughes to an already stacked NJ team, and pity the rest of the NHL.
@@thewolfdoctor761 Eh as a devils fan I look at it like this Jack, Hischier, Mercer, Bratt vs Thompson Dahlin Power Cozens probably a wash long term it really comes down to how guys like Luke Hughes Nemec Holtz Muk Gritsyuk Stillman Foote vs Savoie Ostlund Rosen Kulich Quinn Krebs Peterka which maybe favors the devils due to the potential star power but the depth maybe favors the sabres there its just so hard to predict teams with this many good young assets
Man Jack is lucky he had such an amazing forward group, they block the sight of the goalies so incredibly well, yet get out of the way of his shots so fast!!! Great bloody team here! I hope they win the cup this year, even though I know it's not really a chance, but I hope so bad they win. Lol
I dont want to imagine. I want to enjoy every second of the growth into a superstar pro. .....but yes, in 5 years, will be probably 10lbs bigger, beard & scoring 100 pts annually.
Its crazy how the devils were able to get a deal done on the cheap. Now their reaping the rewards. The way contracts are being handed out now a days, i cant imagine what he would of got on the open market..
@@oyeahjustcomenting anyone who saw him play regularly knew it was coming. That talent was undeniable, just needed to get stronger on his skates and in his wrists.
9:1911:34 How long is it going to be until the Flyers change up their defensive matchups against Hughes?! This should be renamed "Jack Hughes makes Ivan Provorov look like he is playing on rental skates." Wow, he has his number this year. Over and over and over again.
I remember Flyers fans laughed that we took Zacha and not Provorov. I mean Zacha’s not a top top player but Provorov has always been average at best and I wouldn’t want him anywhere near our current roster.
@@Eradactyl In retrospect the Flyers messed up that draft pick more considering Timo and Rantenen were taken after both guys lol. And then the Devils made good after all these years by finally trading for Timo.
He moves into places for opportunities as good as anyone in the league, sniper, great skater and handler of the biscuit.

More points then Kakko and Laf have combined.
LOL!! I still remember all the talk about the other two being more "nhl ready" .. faster

Remember when Rangers fans cheered when the Devils picked Hughes. Pepperidge farm remembers.
fr in four years Hughes has 200+ points and kakko has 98

Devils established but I see the same upside in the Sabres
@@SchuylerYh It's close but I give the nod to the devils.

totally forgot tuch too really good youngish player
The Ottawa Senators also have a good young core with Stützle, Tkachuk, Batherson, Debrincat, Norris, Pinto, Sanderson, and Chabot.
That 30th goal against the Pens was absolutely filthy

Hughes has more points in his career than Kakko and Lafreniere combined.

I really think his ceiling is 120-130 points he's on pace for 104 now at 21 years old with ERIK HAULA on his line

It's a shame he wasn't in the fastest skater comp

I’ll eat my words. He isn’t a bust. He just needed to gain some weight and experience.
