Andy wrote this song after his grandfather's passing. It's not about getting up and doing something, making something of yourself. It's about how In The End, his grandfather will always be remembered. His idea is you only truly die when people forget who you were.
The inspiration for this song was the death of Andy Biersack's(the singer) grandfather. In an interview with Kerrang! magazine Andy Biersack said the following: "I was very close to him. Every day after school, I would go to his house and talk. (During the funeral) people were talking about my grandfather go into Heaven, and how wonderful person he was. I started to think about what heaven is... I hope I'm wrong, and I hope he is in the clouds, but on a personal level, I was thinking of the importance this person had to all these people at the church. If nothing else, Heaven is a legacy that you leave with the people around you. If there was a place that is Heaven, that's wonderful. But people telling the story of your life after you've lived it, those are the people who create that afterlife you have and continue this legacy."

Black Veil Brides is from Hollywood, California...the band technically started in Cincinnati, Ohio in 2006. Andy Biersack (the lead singer and the only original member) first started the band under the name "Biersack" but later changed it to Black Veil Brides. Fun fact, "This reminds me of the music I used to listen to" isn't an accident. As I unerstand it, BVB purposefully modeled themselves after older bands to try and revive/pay tribute to older styles of rock and roll. If I remember correctly, they drew most heavily from KISS and Motley Crue.

If I recall correctly, one of the guitarists was speaking about how they took inspiration from Motley Crue type anthems and such. Very 80s inspired music.
A few years ago my grandmother was very ill, she was 93 (I think). I’d just been to see her before driving back to London (3 hour journey) and about half way back this song came on. I know the song is about Andy’s grandfather, and it made me think about my gran. So, anyway I burst into tears and it wasn’t a pretty sight. I get home and realised my dad had tried calling me an hour ago, and when I call him back he tells me my gran had passed away. It was around the time I was listening to the song, so now I always associate it with my gran.
In The End is my favorite song of all time by BVB. Probably the most impressionable song that left a mark on my heartstrings because the meaning to it holds a greater depth to me.

Does everyone just forget that this song is off of a concept album? With one of the most comic-book stories I've ever heard put to music. Like I love the Wretched and Divine and this is a great final battle song...followed by Lost it All in contrast it makes for one hell of an album...

I actually do that constantly since my left ear hurts after a while of having an earphone in it so I'd rather keep my ear safe than hear the left side of a song! (It also makes it funny to hear those songs where the vocals switch between the two sides.)

I really like that the full album tells a story. But what gives it more character is the F.E.A.R transmissions. “As war fades” goes with in the end and it would explain a lot about why they sang the song.

A few years ago my grandmother was very ill, she was 93 (I think). I’d just been to see her before driving back to London (3 hour journey) and about half way back this song came on. I know the song is about Andy’s grandfather, and it made me think about my gran. So, anyway I burst into tears and it wasn’t a pretty sight. I get home and realised my dad had tried calling me an hour ago, and when I call him back he tells me my gran had passed away. It was around the time I was listening to the song, so now I always associate it with my gran.
In The End is my favorite song of all time by BVB. Probably the most impressionable song that left a mark on my heartstrings because the meaning to it holds a greater depth to me.
