Behind the Scenes: 2016 California Regional, Men’s Competition

- Watch as Sevan Matossian catches the fittest men in California during their most exposed and most triumphant moments at the California Regional, held May 13-15 in Del Mar, California.
In a hotly contested region thick with CrossFit Games veterans, nothing is guaranteed.
Dan Bailey, last year’s California Regional champion and fourth-place Games finisher, came into the competition as a favorite to take the title again, but his weekend doesn’t go as planned. After missing qualification by one spot and 15 points in 2015, Games veteran Josh Bridges is more fired up than ever, and it shows on the competition floor as he looks for redemption.
The regional weekend takes its toll on all the athletes, and Matossian is there to document the aftermath of every event as they leave it all on the floor in hopes of making it to Carson, California, for the Games.
The 2016 Reebok CrossFit Games run July 19-24 at the StubHub Center in Carson.

1) Ronnie Teasdale is for sure in training to be a tantric yogi and 2)Marcus Filly's story had me feeling ALL the feels. Sold the Gym, Mom in remission, Grandpa died...The ability to focus through all of that was probably the most impressive thing about his performance.

I'm still a little heartbroken that Dan Bailey and Brooke Ence didn't make it, but I love the games because it's 100% performance based, so I gotta respect the people who performed!
everytime a big crossfit documentary ir long video comes out, I always get excited. there is so much talent spread about the crossfit media team. the camera work and editing is just amazing. I always come away feeling like I know these athletes personally from the interviews. you guys rock

I'm not gonna lie, when I saw Marcus Filly cry I thought to myself, "come on man, really!?" However when I heard his explanation and thinking back to how he played it cool the whole weekend. He got me right in the feels.

My only problem with this is that it only shows the celebrity crossfiters: bridges, Bailey, filly etc There were 40 guys at that event. Right? All crossfiters. Would be nice for them to have some time in front of the camera.

Hello! I'm 18 years old and my biggest dream is to become a crossfitter and compete in the games. At the moment I am kind of fit and I excercise a lot, but I also eat a lot of candy. Where should I start if I want to crossfit?
The question answers itself. Do some crossfit. There's stuff that's posted on the CrossFit HQ site everyday and there are thousands of gyms in the world, so in a crazy world, you could find your way into one of those.

Dang that moment at 26:07 was intense to me only because in their heat Lucero and Bridges were neck and neck and Lucero had the quicker/smoother transition like he was practicing there. If Josh had just looked up and watched that he might have taken that 1st place too haha. I mean he obviously didn't NEED that 1st place, but it's still neat to see a little foreshadowing almost.
