- Wonderful, just wonderful so enjoy and comment if you'd like to. With Randy Keith Brown on bass and Lee Goodness on drums. Live 1990 in Germany, third song of the concert.
All i gotta say, is the black musians got it all . soufull, rythum , blues . and stage presence. Curtis is one . he had a voice that wont give. RIP curtis
Love this
Had the chance to listen to him in Amsterdam.
His back-up group are not his originals; what happened to his "Impressions" bothers?
Doesn't make sense that he's touring without his "family"?
The best from haliax sid smith
Played is part in northern soul
Curtis was a Master Poet. I studied music during the 60's and majored music in college. I am so VERY glad that I studied music during that time because today there is NO structure to 90% of the music produced today. However, this song was presented in a movie named "The Wire" and brought back all those golden memories of the 60's when it cost 10 cent to make a call in a phone booth. I miss this kind of quality music talking about love and beauty. Today the lyrics are down right disrespectful to Women. And, what hurts me more than anything is the young Women of today are answering when they are called dirty names.
Curtis Mayfield's music will live on forever.
What a melody from the legend....
One of my favorite singers of the sixties love all his music ❤
Brilliant! that's what you call music...not the nonsense today.
A hauntingly beautiful song, by the man who wrote it.. thanks Curtis (Sadly no longer with us)
Love you Curtis Mayfield your voice is heaven. Love you
One of the greatest musicians ever.
Look up "cool" in the dictionary, and you'll find a picture of Curtis Mayfield.

Soulful, romantic, sensual, his music and sounds make me feel a certain way... love me some Curtis Mayfield.
You wouldn't believe how many people this guy wrote for.

curtis was. the man
Frfr The man.. #Superfly
From nowhere through a caravan
around the camp fire light
ah lovely woman in motion with hair as dark as night
her eyes were like that of a cat in dark
that hypnotized me with love
she was a gypsy woman
she was a gypsy woman
she danced around and round
to a guitar melody from the fire
her face was all aglow
how she enchanted me
oh how I'd like to hold her near and kiss
and forever whisper in her ear
I loved a gypsy woman
I loved a gypsy woman
What a voice!
One of the greatest music writers who lived on this planet. There have many versions of this great track. The best is by that great singer who also passed away - Slim Smith
Amen!!
I'm a black man too
Great post...I'm a big fan, his voice never changed, so sad what happened in 1990. A true musician if he did not get hurt he'd probably still be making music.
Days of old, double gold. 🥇
Very nice live version! I always liked both his (original) and Brian Hylan's version!
LOVE Curtis!
Loved this man, with the Impressions and as a solo artist. Wish he and Bobby Womack could have collaborated, two awesome singers song writers and guitar players, if only!
This man.....😪😪😪 Why did you have to leave us too soon!!!
World class. R.I.P. Curtis.
Ancestor
Not to be ake anything from Curtis, but Brian Hyland did a fantastic version too. Much love to both artist's ❤️
I'm unable to post to my account. I've been trying for months to get it straightened out. Glad I could at least comment on this old song. Good memories.
On line I found that when Brian Hyland covered this song in 1970 it was produced by Del Shannon it sold a million copies. Del was born in Grand Rapids,MI. grew up in near by Coopersville,MI. his big hit was Runaway and this song Gypsy Woman was a original by Curtis Mayfield.

Larry lee and Jimi hendrix did a fantastic cover of this at woodstock.
1990. I have seen Curtis in April in Rotterdam. A couple months before his accident
Many great soul singers in history ......Curtis is in my top five the American Gregory Isaac just simple mr cool
CURTIS WAS THE BEST IN THE 60'S.
If I had a dollar for every time I heard this song and enjoyed the Impressions music, I would give Bill Gates a run for (HIS) money. I think that the version of I'm so proud that he did on the same CD was HEAVENLY.....Beauty in it's purest form. Thanks for posting.
Fantastic piece of Lyrics Mr Mayfiled! Lets honor the Dark Eyed Women
Greatest, you can definitely tell where Prince get his influence from
The extra verse. Poignant.

Brilliant poet!!!
Love his voice
The bass player is excellent.
This version doesn't evoke the same melancholy feeling I get from listening to Brian Hyland's version of this song.
Yes, there's a yearning feeling that BH conveys in his version
Brian Hyland ain’t nuttin compared to Mr Mayfield . Mayfield was an unrecognized musical genius
