- The first ever Sutherland Brothers + Quiver single with my take on the lyrics as requested, apologies if they are maybe slightly mis-heard and even mis-spelt too by this old codger. If anyone has the 'B' side 'Not Fade Away', please upload a video as I lost my vinyl single. This just failed to make the UK Top 75 unless you know different. Written by Iain Sutherland. Produced by Muff Winwood. Available on the Very Best of The Sutherland Brothers and Quiver CD issued in 2002 and the US version of 'Lifeboat'.

Loved this song first time I heard. Then when that guitar break plays, I got goosebumps. Thanks for sharing.
I have absolutely loved this song for about 40 years. Damn, I'm old. If I could get this on my iPod I would die a happy person. I have the DVD but my MacBook Pro is solid state.
I'm very pleased to see so many positive comments from you Yanks on youtube about his great band.
I'd been hearing this song on the radio, back in 1973, and really liked it. I had no idea who the group was. We went to the Hollywood Sportatorium to hear Elton John and the radio ads said "also featuring Sutherland Bros. & Quiver", as did the tickets. I thought, what a weird name for a band, who the hell are these guys? They opened the show, did some songs I'd never heard, and then ended with this song-the place went bonkers. I'll never forget it.
I scrambled for this Tune...typing in lyrics from a faint distant melody in the back of my mind, long hair, forever Tan Skin, Beautiful blonde girls everywhere, pasley Jeans, and groovy signs. Another CLASSIC 1 HIT WONDER from the 70's. ~!
MAGNÍFICA CANCIÓN DE SUTHERLAND BROTHERS AND QUIVER ,DESDE ESPAÑA, MI MÁS PROFUNDA ADMIRACIÓN A UN TEMAZO COMO ESTE. ES MAGNÍFICO E IMPRESIONANTE..
Good band, saw them at Essex University.
Tim Renwick a very under rated guitarist.
Great song. Classic and unforgettable.
I saw these guy back in the 70's here in Seattle .. they were the opening act for Elton John. Great band!
STAGE PARADES: Thanks for posting this -- it was a very underrated song in its day. Regarding the lyrics (which are difficult to discern), I always thought he was saying, "Looking hard in the sun," not "Looking harder than some." The last word in that line definitely sounds like "sun" to me. ALSO: I hear the chorus as nonsense syllables -- something like "La, lad'n-da, lad'n-da, lad'n-day" -- not "night after night after night after day," as one comment suggested. Sort of like scat singing.
A pleasure and those lyrics are as close as I could get but you are maybe correct. Such a good song, a favorite group of all time. Thanks for taking the time to comment, appreciated.
KXOK STL 630am use to play it every hour, great tune
I bought this on 45 rpm record back in 72/73. My brother and I used. to save our lunch money to buy records mostly 45s.before we got into lps .then pot...good times.
You both were smart!!! Records and pot- good purchasing choices.
I had never heard of these guys until I saw them open up for Elton John in 1973 bought this album the next day
Thanks for posting this great song. It flows well. I remember it being played in the NJ/NY area. Investigated the Sutherland Bros. Bought some of their albums. It’s all good, esp. Moonlight Lady.
Should have been huge. thank you for uploading. my 45 became so worn it eas unplayable.
Memories...abundant memories come hand in hand with this tune....I was a 9th grader as well! A while back (3-4yrs) I went to see an acoustic show, in Buffalo, NY, featuring 2 of the original 3 members of the Billy Sheehan (Mr Big, David lee roth, UFO) fronted 1970's hard rock band TALAS.....they covered this song in a most excellent manner. I had forgot about it until then. Now, it pops up on just about everyone of my mixed CD's/hard drives//great tune!
Thanks for posting. I always heard it as lah-dot'n-dah-dot'n-dah-dot'n day now', but either way, a great throwback to FM radio in the Casper, WY of my youth.
Another classic song that I used to play with my band. The funny thing was I forgot the lyrics while I was singing this song.
Saw em open up for Elton...Oakland...way back...loved this song....
The name was because the 2 groups merged for what they thought was just a short time but they stayed together for over 5 years. Pleased you have such a terrific memory and Elton John too, WOW some concert that would have been, not surprised it is still etched on your memory. Thanks for sharing, Steve
Oh, man.....the memories this one brings. One of my favorite songs in junior high. Thanks for the upload (AND for the lyrics.)
Me encanta, me recuerda a mis 15 años, es una canción preciosa
So hard to believe that this wasn't a much bigger hit...ONLY made it to #48?.
It made it to number 21 on the Cashbox and Record World national Top 100 weekly music charts. Billboard wasn't was kind to it, as you pointed out. Made it to the top on my chart!!!
Thanks for the reminder Al, making this our Google+ track of the day.
me recuerda a mis 15 años, mi epoca maravillosa
me encanta esta canción, soy europea y me recuerda a mis 15 años, es un temazoooooooo
lola prieto filgueira pendeja lastima no conoces de música esta interpretación es hermosa pero de europeos hay una infinidad de hermosas interpretaciones
i still have my original 45 and the lp
I like that 'night after night after night after day' input, now that just might be right and maybe I will try singing that in the future. Thanks.
I had the 45 on Island Records. I liked the emblem of the palm tree and I really liked this song. I was only 3 in 73. Was this a big hit in the states?
Not a huge hit, no -- it reached No. 48 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, which counts as a minor success. However, radio stations in some cities played it more than others, and I recall hearing it fairly often for a month or so in Indianapolis.
Thanks. Were was the band from and was it a big hit elsewhere? It should have been. It's a great song.
Este es un temazo impresionante, de loas años 70
Cool 1973 song
Excelente grupo siempre por siempre
@fairfax1960 - A pleasure Fairfax, good to know YOU had such good tastes in Junior High. Appreciated, Steve :-)
Okay, Parades, clue me in on this. The Tim Renwick listed as a member of this band, is he the same Renwick who went on to play guitar with Elton John's band during the early 80's? And the Bruce Thomas listed, is he the same Thomas who went on to play bass with Elvis Costello's Attractions? Please advise if you can. This is wonderful pop!
Yes and Yes. Tim was also well known as a later member of Pink Floyd and did great guitar work with Al Stewart and Steve Booker but his contributions made some great compositions even greater by his work. Bruce was only a member here for around 6 months, don't think the merger was a success but he went on to achieve more recognition. It is indeed wonderful pop, thanks for your comment. Steve from Stage Parades.
yes it is
Hey "Further Review" . . I too heard this song growing up in Indy! Probably on WNAP (when FM radio mattered!) Yup NCHS . . go Panthers, then down to IU. Small world!
