I think this little amp rocks. I have this little puppy and it pumps out some warm tones, very cool for rock/blues and does metal convincingly as well. The amp takes pedals really well too, plus it has an effects loop. I don't think you can really go wrong with this one.
Your playing is impeccable, so whatever you touch will be golden. Add to that the fact that Laney makes badass amps ensures truly great sounds. Thank you for providing your reviews and your music.
Last week I got the Laney. Version 1 Watt or 15 Watt input happy happy Thank you for the greetings to Jeff. My favorite tune. May he being rocking in heaven.
We got a great selection of sub 450 Euro amps today. Just a few that are good value for money imho. Marshall DSL-1 (all tube, 2 channel with reverb 8"), Vox VT40x (built in fx and tuner, 10"), Fender Pro Jr. IV SE (all tube 10" no nonsense amp), Roland JC-22 (clean Police sound, stereo). The Vox does about 240 Euro, the Roland is 450-ish, the other amps are inbetween.
Been looking for a small practice amp and this is on my short list. For the price, this has moved to the top. I like how it took the gain pedals. Thanks for the Jeff Beck. One of the first tunes I learned as a youngin.
I want to get one, but I still have my 22 year old Laney LC15 (no reverb) with an upgraded greenback 10” plus upgraded TAD tubes (their cryogenic top of the line). It sounds SO good, every time someone comes over and plays thru it, their jaw drops. It sounds better than my LC50 II. I think it’s the 10” speaker. It just breaks up so nice, how can I replace it with something that’s basically the same amp, but with a 12” speaker? I don’t need two. I WANT two, I just don’t NEED two.
Av respekt för potentiella köpare får dagens kommentar ske på engelska: The thing about Laney is their products still match the "poor man's Marshall"-description. Having been an avid user of all things Laney since '05 I will state that the biggest problem was and still is the lack of balance between treble and bass. This is actually not a problem as long as you're playing single coils or humbuckers exclusively. But as soon as you want to have both pickup-alternatives at your disposal, you will have to re-ascess the time at your disposal. Laney's are a bit too sensitive to pickups and you need to be attentive to that. This goes for the stacked humbuckers aswell as they tend to react as single coils in these matters. I play both active humbuckers, stacked humbuckers and single coils and often need to conduct severe setting-changes when switching guitars on my main setup at home; Laney IR60 through an Ibanez 4*12. Bara några tankar sådär 😊. Men fin recension. Blev lite sugen på att skaffa en sån där liten Laney 🤗.
I think the Tube 15 doesn't have an analogous 'boost' right? You'll probably get less distortion from it. Is the HB 15 reverb as good as the Laney one? I personally think the Laney's tone is more balanced, Tube5 and 15 sound very 'trebly'.
What do you mean the overdrive isnt nice ?? It is actually with a boost one of the warmest sounding fat tube sounds amongs any amps !!! Not everyone is a metal head ! ( no disrespect) but is a mega amp for blues or clean tones imho ,,,, Good rewiew tho !
Nice! Not bad at all. This sounds awesome actually, very nice tones! I STILL have Laney LX20 - my first amp ever. You can get ANY sound out of it, it is a weird and a good amp, with even weirder distorsion. + It is still sold as a practise home amp (LX 20 watts - around 100 euro in Croatia, new), but is really is not. Until i got myself a Blackstar and all other, i was playing live with big boys with not even 1 problem. I could follow. It was all almost on max but i survived numerous live shows with LX20 LoL + RG Superstrat 🤦♂️🤣🤷♂️🤷♂️ It is a VERY VERY VERY loud amp! You are right man, you can get sound out of anything, you just have to know stuff... You need to know quite a bit actually for that... awesome vid, thanks mate! Will you be testing the new Laney Lionheart foundry 60?.. They seem to be a great affordable offering from Laney... They say that they mimic the Lionheart tube amps.
Maybe bigger speaker would sound better than in this one. But still cleans and preamp breakup sounds nice. Your strymon done some great job :) hb15 stillbetter choice it seems
In Canada it is 580$ and ETAs show mid-August 2021 for availability. I would say the Fender Bassbreaker 007s at the same price or thereabouts is missing the FX loop, which is what I think this Laney was trying to compete on. I also wonder if this will get cloned (re-badged?) by Monoprice/Thomann in a short while, given how the Tube 5/15's were Laney designs. Edit : Cheaper to order and ship from Thomann via UPS ... LOL
Just had mine. I like how long this stays clean as I'm studying jazz. Dirt players be warned, I don't really hear that much dirt until 6 gain. I actually downgraded to this from a Blackstar 15W tube because it's too fucking loud.
Elmo,Please help. What do you thing will be better? Nextone stage or cub-super 12 for an evening home player. Sometimes i would like to use it with me-90 via fxloop. I know you recommend HB 15 but I don’t like the look :( Sorry
Tried this in person today, and I was not impressed. Being Laney, I was expecting more from the overdriven tone. To my ears it lacks character. The Blackstar solid-state Debut series (10e and 15e) that I tried earlier has clear personality and is grittier sounding. Maybe you should try it out, especially the 10e.
Yeah, I agree. Not terrible, not fantastic. Could be better, could be worse. I'd buy the HB15 in a New York minute over this one but if that wasn't available I might look seriously at this one. Horses for courses as they say. :-)
I bought this amp 3 days ago, tried it for 20 minutes and sent it back. I do not like the way it distorts and to me my £30 Microcube sounds a lot better. It is however beautiful to look at and works well with pedals.
It would be great if Elmo did some sort of tutorial on how to use pedals with the Microcube (at least for those of us that are not familiar with pedals). Which ones to use and how to combine. But yes... Seems for those of us that just play at home, the Microcube is hard to beat. I was thinking of getting a Tube 15 or a Katana 50 in the future but I wonder if it would be an actual upgrade. Thanks, and sorry about the long msg
