I have an idea on how to improve upcoming events and possibly also the community day. The current problems stem from the differing tastes of the participants. The assumption that the community could agree on one or two masks and then unlock them has proven problematic. I see three main issues: 1. Everyone has their own preferences. With the current event structure, where we vote on one or two concepts, some parties are inevitably disappointed. 2. The community is split into competing groups, which can quickly become toxic. 3. The current event splits the existing content to enjoy, into smaller parts. Do you want to support a specific mask? Then play only two heists. The original idea was to show us eight concept masks and have us choose which one we wanted based on our playstyle. This reminds me of the Mob Vote in Minecraft, which is notoriously toxic and divisive. My solution to this problem is to implement an "Event Shop." With each event, new items would be added to the shop. For example, in this event there are four masks new available. The event would have a progress bar with different thresholds. For "Mask Mania," the levels could be set at 25 billion, 50 billion, 75 billion, and 100 billion cash earned across all heists. With each level reached, participants would earn a token. One token could be exchanged for one item from the event shop. As more events occur, the shop would expand. This system could also be integrated into the community day. So, there is never FOMO, but an incentive to participate with an event. If in the future every reward is always available as a challenge after two or three months, then there is no incentive to play - "then I'll just wait." However, if the rewards are not implemented after the event, FOMO arises. If everyone works together towards a goal, but each person can collect their individual reward, it is the best solution. Imagine what an event is like for a new player after two years. If they participate, they might receive three tokens and can choose from a wide selection of items. The shop could offer Halloween masks, Christmas items, Valentine's Day items, and more.
Good Video! 2 things on this for me. First, they mishandled communicating this on all fronts. They had the partners split into teams and tell everyone "Hey, join my team!" which wasn't the play. They should have had the partners vote together on one mask at a time and direct the community towards our vote ("our vote" being whatever our individual communities want) to help unify us, not split us. It wasn't made apparent it was a group effort until it was way too late. Second, making a Helldivers 2-like choice where we ONLY have enough man-power to get 2 masks was such a bad idea. They should have made everything easily attainable within 3/4 of the event window to finally give this community a solid win. Instead, they tried to force us to pick one or two to go for without even telling us that was the case. A complete miscommunication. I swear they have some really amazing ideas for stuff like this, but then their execution is atrocious.
Couldn’t agree more. It feels like this event could’ve gone a lot smoother if the community was told that we should be prioritising one mask at a time - rather than leaving it to chance.
And the thinking that all players work for the same mask is a stupid idea to begin with. I'm not "working" (and the game often feels like work) to get a mask I don't like. I only play for the mask I like. I don't care what mask any youtuber want us to get. Sounds selfish, but it is what it is. I play the game for my own enjoyment.
@@SafyAbecasisdo you really think that this is a fun way of playing a Game? The developer telling the community to grind a specific map until success. For what reason does the Payday gang this? Is that some sort of gangster competition? It is like most of the things in pd3, completely meaningless.
The whole "forming of teams" was going to happen NO MATTER WHAT even if there would not have been any of that social media stuff talk about "mask teams" happening. Because why did you pick your "team"? Because it would unlock the mask you liked the most. And guess what? People would ALWAYS aim for the mask they want to be completed first. Because that's just how people are. So while people would have picked masks they wanted as expected - people would pick DIFFERENT MASKS and hence spread themselves out regardless. This was an inevitable outcome: Everyone working on different masks, spreading the community too thin.
The masks in PD2 are still far superior. I don't like that fact that there's a severe lack of base masks, but also there's no materials to customize the masks.
I want to like this game so much but the devs make it so easy to stop playing. At the beginning, I grinded out all of the challenges and at one point there was close to 1000 challenges and I completed all but five. After the update, they took the challenge screen away meaning all of my work was for nothing. I also used to pay 500 C stacks for certain items I feel like they owe me C stacks. I’m also really disappointed about nothing being implemented in the game about this event. I had no idea it was even going on I play on counsel 😢
To be fair, you're a psycho for doing the challenges and their removal was for the best. It's better that they just removed them for now so that they aren't tempted to do another awful thing with them.
@@Redmont_ Yeah, that's why they listed everything else in their comment about why this game is easier to stop playing than to continue. So I play on PS5, Iplayed roughly 15 hours today, I asked multiple people I played with, roughly 40 different people, and what their thoughts were about mask mania. A vast majority of them had no idea that there was an event going on. I understand there is no advertising of the event in the game, but I agree. If you don't follow social media at all, you'd have zero clue this was going on. Hopefully, next time, they will make some in-game announcements.
Starbeeeze need to add something to the main menus like overwatch advertising the new event. Or force a cutscene when the game loads up letting people know.
It is insane to me, that there is no info about it in the game! Most players don't follow twitter/discord news from payday. The players need info about events in the game.
You look at payday 2 events and it just screams at you that there's one going on. At the top of the menu there was play the ____ event! And at the bottom there was an advertisement for it. Events were usually tied to side jobs, so that was lit up yellow/orange to indicate special events going on. There was a ton of visual aid that the new payday does not have.
The devs under estimated the event, they thought a lot of people would be playing or would come back or buy the game to do the event but in reality the numbers for 3 aren't the same as Payday 2, they fucked up again not fully understanding their community and for some reason again the fans are making excuses to soften the blow of their fuck up, The devs thought it would be doable, that would be true if P3 had P2 numbers but P3 has at max around 900 which isn't enough, the devs reilised this and instead of sorting something out they then turned around and went "Oh uhhh it was ment to be done one mask at a time" which is bullshit because we would still miss out on a mask, we just got 1 in the end and there is 3 more, put those numbers together and we will either have 2 and almost 3 or 3 and half or so of 4, it wasn't doable either way so it's a load of bollocks. We can tell this as when the twitter seen that fans were going for different masks seeing it as a team pick thing, instead of telling people to actually see it as 1 mask at a time.
My other issue with this event is that... let's be honest, masks aren't that good, specially after how many they've been adding recently. Remember crimefest? The rewards would be weapons, whole new game mechanics, new characters, NEW HEISTS etc. Here, you just get something you can't even see because it's on the face of your character on a first person game. This whole event would've been a single reward node of crimefest in it's prime, and one of the less interesting ones at that. I'm not even asking for a whole crimefest, just a more tangible reward like new weapons or anything like that.
Bro you are living with extreme hopium. No body is playing Payday 3 on xbox. The release was so bad I most likely won't go back to Payday 3. I'll be shocked if Payday 3 ever gets the same amount of players Payday 2 has. If the next event has the same goals with zero promotional material, it'll end up the same way this even ended, leaving the player base annoyed and frustrated with a near impossible task. I just wish they got everything right the first time around.
I am a casual player. I play 10/15 heists every 7/10 days... 200+ missions in 5 days is crazy. Just by thinking about the time that you need to play just to get 200 missions in 5 days you can understand how stupid this even was. 20 mins per mission x 200 missions = 66 hrs / 24 = 2.75 days out of 5... meaning that you need to play more than half of the time they gave you (66/120 hrs)... what were they expecting? People quitting their job and skip sleeping just to play for a stupid goal and a 0 value in-game mask??
Let’s be honest, what about Payday 3 hasn’t been a total failure yet? At this point I’m very okay with them just closing this shit down and updating Payday 2 again.
If we're being honest, a lot of the major changes that have been made in the last few updates have been great, and DLC 2 was a fantastic addition to the game, it's just sad that we've stumbled yet again. I think it would be such a shame to see Starbreeze go back to Payday 2 - especially considering console players would then just be abandoned again. But I get where you're coming from.
I had no idea there was an event going on until I saw a livestream showing the mask mania thumbnail. I was sooo annoyed because I logged on every day of the week with zero information in game about it and I had my telemetry or whatever setting disabled the whole time. 😤
SBZ was talking and Daily Challenges and challenges unlocking additional cosmetics. Instead of grinding, if each mask would have their own set of challenges connected to it's heists, it would be better. "But people would finish those challenges and wouldn't play the game then". Well, each day of the event would unlock new challenge in the set, similar to daily challenge system, with difference that older challenges would remain if you are late to party. "But it's suppose to be community event". There would be an additional community reward mask that would be grind-based, yes, but only thing you would have to do is to get certain amount of cash that would count across all heists, like in this challenge. This way, each of us would get the mask we want (we could complete all challenges and not just one set) and if community mask wouldn't be finished, at least we would get want we wanted per player. Of course, any unfinished challenged or community mask would be locked behind different challenge or C-Stacks
I grinded out lots of Gold & Shark, earlier in the event, but today was playing back-to-back Touch the Sky mixed in with a few Dirty Ice & other maps but it was almost all Touch the Sky because I was with someone who I know likes doing that heist. Other than that this event was a catastrophe in terms of expectations. They want the players build momentum but at the moment the only thing to get excited about is a future DLC as a part of the season pass if you splurged money for it. There’s likely more but really we don’t even know what Ilija is doing with the free map or when that releases (likely late considering that news is only recent according to people I know associated with Starbreeze). Edit: More skills makes me displeased, we only have 28 skill points, I find that very limiting now considering the number of skill trees in game since launch has only increased more and more, having only 28 does not make you tough enough for the higher difficulties if the game is balanced the the way I assume it will be by the devs in the future.
I've played other community events that felt like this, felt like "If we make the end goal tough, it will encourage people to get their friends in the game to help" and it just never feels like it works out well. It felt like new player on-boarding thru FOMO then a community focused thing
It can be done properly, I remember 2 crimefest challenges in payday 2, one was to get kills with a bottle and another one with a baseball bat, it's kind of fun to sort of try that for a bit without being too forced to really lean into it.
@@ninochaosdrache3189 I'd also add it was fun to experiment with various melee builds that players would have otherwise not experimented with. iirc, bottle was a fast, knife-like melee while the bat was a slower, heavy hitter. There was also a couple of different melee specific decks too, or you could remix other builds for melee.
Dropped you a DM on Discord for some stats and stuff, recommend taking a quick glance at it. :) Other than that, you summed up pretty much exactly how I felt about this event. We had some ideas on how they could've arranged the event ourselves too.

Cant believe that devs actually wanted all of us to go for 1 mask per time, just by looking at them you already understand that there will be 4 teams fighting for their mask. And this would be cool even with all the small mistakes that they did with this event we could still have fun unlocking all the masks, but the amount of money we needed to get is crazy. As a person, who was grinding nearly 4 days in a row (even without sleeping for 1 night) i was very sad when i saw like 40% of mask i was fighting for unlocked and nearly 2 days left on timer. I literally lost almost 4 days of my life for nothing, cause no matter how hard i tried, i still will have to complete hardcore challenge to get the mask. Atleast, we got 1 mask unlocked, though its the most boring of them all. God bless gearheads, freak you sharks, thank you mollys for existing, and sorry cut ice carltons, that battle didn't worth it.
Honestly Im not sure payday 3 is gonna still be around next year. Like this event broke my mate and his lass who ran like 600 of one of the heists and where like we have 0 chance of unlocking this mask and joined me in bl3 melee only lmao
Too little too late. I feel bad for the team, but at the same time, they knew the state of the game when they decided to release the game. That's unfortunately on them regardless of exec decision or input from the community. I'm surprised they haven't been a bit more experimental/radical with some of these changes to at least try and save the game. Maybe in a few years after loads of updates it will be in a better place, but it's clear the resources being poured into this game are not at all worth it for how little people care about this game. Not sure when, but I could see this game possibly ending dev support within the next year or two... Also, love your videos man, you are always on my home page :3
Wow, I can't believe they'd have an event and not put anything in game to notify players about it. Thats like mandatory when getting player participation.
Payday 3 hurts bro, I really want it to be good but I can’t keep lying to myself, hopefully it gets better but im jumping ship unless something really good happens
The event was wrongly designed. It promoted one of the game's weaknesses - lack of replayability. Then you shoulnd't force users to grind the same heists. The event should've been designed around the opposite - variation. And it should've been integrated visually in the game so that everyone knew that they were participating and feeling like a team.
Wow, I had kicked around the idea of getting some mates together to play pd3 again after we have a mediocre at best time in the beta. It has become a running joke to check the review score on steam every now and then, but we ended up grabbing it on sale. After a year of updates even with the overpriced dlcs, the reviews have started to climb again. However seeing the abysmal showing from this event just encapsulates how incompetent the team very much still are, especially compared to pd1 and pd2. TLDR I was just warming up to the idea of giving pd3 another shot, but this event has doused any chance of that any time soon.
One thing that will have thrown a lot of people off and they might not even get a mask, is “Telemetry must not be disabled in settings” by default this is disabled. So if people didn’t read the fine details they wouldn’t have known to go and change this 🤷🏻♂️ seems a bit of a silly thing to have disabled if it’s a big part of the games server communication when it’s what tracks the stats. So in theory people could have been playing with this disabled through the event and it’s not impacted the percentages 🤷🏻♂️
Telemetry isn't disabled by default. It's something you're asked whether you want on or off when you first make your account. But it isn't explained well, so many people likely turned it off without knowing what it was.
How can you introduce 4 cool masks and not expect people to branch out into 4 groups that each like a specific mask? lol. People were never gonna band together and go for 1 mask because people are just gonna go for the one that they like the most.
Another thing is seeing footage, these masks look already mdeled and ingame, if they expected the comunity to only unlock 2 of them then what were they planning to do with the others, i doubt theyd just scrap them as they likely spent a fair ammount of work on them, put them in with a later DLC?
I first heard about the event by watching this video right now and after hearing about the objective I immediately thought "This would have worked way better in Payday 2 and each mask would simply be unlocked through heists from a specific contractor instead of relying on one or two heists per mask". I don't know how the contract system works in Payday 3, but if it's anything like Payday 2 then this event would work way better once each contractor has atleast 4+ heists available from them and then just do it that way. EDIT: Minor spelling mistake
This feels a lot like destiny 2 s first community event. Where the community had to finish objektivs on 3 different planets. But since these objectives where boring they had to increase the progress numbers quite a bit.
What a horrible event that only exists to boost the player numbers. If the community was given a new toy or two that could change up each map in a dynamic way like an impactful weapon, perk tree or gameplay element I'd be fine with the idea of each player grinding a dozen or so of the same hiests some days; but asking for hundreds of the same hiests for days? To get one mask? That's just unbelievably dumb. People have lives and jobs and commitments outside of a silly cops and robbers game. I really hope this game stops existing.
Man, I remember getting this game early, before it released, having high hopes for it after adoring Payday 2, and at first I found it fun, but as the days went on it got more and more stale, without any variety outside of maybe some keycard locations being random and such (which did barely anything as they were still easy to find and not that out of the way) it just became less and less fun, and even though I was enjoying the smoother gameplay and such, instead of the jank Diesel Engine (don't get me wrong, I adore the engine but damn if it ain't hella jank), I just couldn't stay optimistic for that long. I have had the thought in the back of my head to give the game yet another try, but honestly seeing this stuff and how this event was handled has scared me away from it for at least a good while, be it months or years. I really hope they are able to get some good shit going, make heists have variables, ensure that they don't always go to plan and make us have to think and adapt as we go, instead of making a single route that always works no matter how many times you reload the map etc. I am fully aware and I will admit that my hopes and expectations were way too high for this game, but it was kinda hard to avoid comming off of Payday 2 and how well that game handled it. I do hope they do better as time goes by, I really don't want this game to die out or anything, I would love to have a reason to come back to the game and enjoy it again, but as it stands, I sadly doubt I'll even consider returning anytime soon
People still play this game that’s wild every soul I knew refunded day 1 including me. Game still also has 22 achievements shows how the original vision is so lost it’s hilarious.
This game in particular killed itself on arrival. With the server issues, the preorder issues, the alpha version being the ps launch version issue. They did everything wrong, the core game itself and mechanics are perfectly fine but they ruined their own title that HAD to live up to payday 2. And the solid evidence to prove that is seeing people stream payday 2 instead.
Didn’t even know there was a event wasn’t even playing the game still waiting until the game has a working offline mode and not just a beta before I give the game a chance again🗿
Wait the event wasn't about getting like pieces of a mask you could build towards regardless of overall progress and the time limit just being so sharp you could only get 2/4 so they could reuse these assets next year? But instead about GLOBAL progression to unlocking 1/4 masks through combined points? Goddamn I already dropped this game but boy does Starbreeze have no clue what made Payday 2 fun.
So they want that payday 3 community choose one mask than all players replay over and over only two heists with zero rng in 5 days?

I have an idea on how to improve upcoming events and possibly also the community day. The current problems stem from the differing tastes of the participants. The assumption that the community could agree on one or two masks and then unlock them has proven problematic. I see three main issues:
The event shop idea is great and would probably work and be well recevied by the community
Ngl possibly the most intelligent comment I have seen on this website, this idea sounds great
I’m more annoyed but just how ugly the masks look.
1 unobtainable mask wont make you say “this game is unplayable”
@@Redmont_
Yeah, that's why they listed everything else in their comment about why this game is easier to stop playing than to continue. And they didn't even mention the masks but rather the event in general cause they didn't even know it was happening due to bad communication from the devs.
Is this the equivalent to commenting on a video before watching, where you do comment before reading, or did you forget?

So I play on PS5, Iplayed roughly 15 hours today, I asked multiple people I played with, roughly 40 different people, and what their thoughts were about mask mania. A vast majority of them had no idea that there was an event going on.
I understand there is no advertising of the event in the game, but I agree. If you don't follow social media at all, you'd have zero clue this was going on.
Hopefully, next time, they will make some in-game announcements.
Starbeeeze need to add something to the main menus like overwatch advertising the new event. Or force a cutscene when the game loads up letting people know.
@@uniqbenwell9122Or get this...an announcement via in game like Payday 2 has...
This was a disaster I never knew the event started because of the lack of indication in game 😂
I'm a f2p looter shooter player... and even thinking about the grind they wanted you to do is insane
Just now thinking of how this is literally Minecraft's Voting updates, but with payday, and even more poorly executed...
They should just return to regular Minecons instead of Minecon lives
Bro you are living with extreme hopium. No body is playing Payday 3 on xbox. The release was so bad I most likely won't go back to Payday 3. I'll be shocked if Payday 3 ever gets the same amount of players Payday 2 has. If the next event has the same goals with zero promotional material, it'll end up the same way this even ended, leaving the player base annoyed and frustrated with a near impossible task. I just wish they got everything right the first time around.
Payday 3 is digging such a massive hole for themselves that I have it on good authority that they have made the hole to china
It’s just crazy to think this was the first event. I’ve never seen a studio drop the ball so many times in a row with an IP as strong as payday
This is the first time I have heard about this event.
I would have helped more in this event but I was too busy having fun playing Crime Boss.
I will be honest, agreed.

I had no idea there was an event going on until I saw a livestream showing the mask mania thumbnail.
I was sooo annoyed because I logged on every day of the week with zero information in game about it and I had my telemetry or whatever setting disabled the whole time. 😤
The most confusing part is if you had the 'Disable Telemetry' setting set to 'Disabled' - that was actually correct!
Yeah I’ve been wanting to get back into payday 3 and had no idea about this, GG starbreeze.
I’m not surprise that it was a test event to see what people want in a event like this.
I doubt the numbers will be that higher in a year Payday 3 just isn't Payday 2
I've played other community events that felt like this, felt like "If we make the end goal tough, it will encourage people to get their friends in the game to help" and it just never feels like it works out well. It felt like new player on-boarding thru FOMO then a community focused thing
You all should've seen this coming
Thanks for your input 👍
Community event on a game with no community, what did you expect?
I didn't even know there was an event
We got the shark mask.
Yes
They tried to do a community event like the old PD2 community events but forgot that PD3 doesn't have nearly as big of a community. What a surprise.
if your playerbase is supposed to play something a certain way to do something you’re developing your game all wrong
It can be done properly, I remember 2 crimefest challenges in payday 2, one was to get kills with a bottle and another one with a baseball bat, it's kind of fun to sort of try that for a bit without being too forced to really lean into it.
@@redtheyiffer
But even then that Challenge had player freedom, because you were able to do it at any heist you wanted
@@ninochaosdrache3189
I'd also add it was fun to experiment with various melee builds that players would have otherwise not experimented with. iirc, bottle was a fast, knife-like melee while the bat was a slower, heavy hitter. There was also a couple of different melee specific decks too, or you could remix other builds for melee.
I don't necessarily agree, having an intended way to play is fine. As long as it's implemented well and we know what it is!
Dropped you a DM on Discord for some stats and stuff, recommend taking a quick glance at it. :)
Other than that, you summed up pretty much exactly how I felt about this event. We had some ideas on how they could've arranged the event ourselves too.
I thought this was some kind of dlc item when I first saw something about new masks, had no idea there was even an event until this video

Damn imagine the chaos when all the 10 Payday 3 players started fighting over which mask they should get
"PAYDAY 3 was a FAILURE!"
There, fixed video's title for you.
Payday3 failing its first event is so funny
What the hell happened with the studio(s) between the 2nd and 3rd game?
When something drops day 1 dead in the water, An apparel event isn't going to fix it. 😢
But it isn't explained well, so many people likely turned it off without knowing what it was.
good way to completely grind all enjoyment out of the game for a single cosmetic
How can you introduce 4 cool masks and not expect people to branch out into 4 groups that each like a specific mask? lol. People were never gonna band together and go for 1 mask because people are just gonna go for the one that they like the most.
750 people play this game daliy
Another thing is seeing footage, these masks look already mdeled and ingame, if they expected the comunity to only unlock 2 of them then what were they planning to do with the others, i doubt theyd just scrap them as they likely spent a fair ammount of work on them, put them in with a later DLC?
@@saunshilu the masks that we weren’t able to unlock are going to be added to the game through the hardcore challenge’s system.

I admit that it gave me anxiety to see the Gameplay with the camera tilted to one side
