  • This is a compilation of my Bandai AT-ST build & paint series collected into one long video. The original series was finished some time ago, so the quality is not the same as I do today. Also things have changed over time and the Bandai Star Wars kits are now available in the US.

    This is an old build series I've compiled into one video. At the time of original recording, Bandai Star Wars kits were not available for sale in the United States. That eventually changed and they are now available.

    Great video! I learned a lot! I just started building models again after 50 years. I'm trying to improve on "all" the model building skills I had back when I was 10 years old. Any improvement I learn now will easily improve my old skills. Thanks for the video and knowledge you share! Eric (Edit): By the way, I have damaged a Bandai AT-ST using enamel paints/weathering. Especially in the "small/thin" plastic jointed areas of the model. Sprayed a clear coat after painting and before the wash but still had problems! Just a thought on my limited experience. Thanks

    16:30 I had the thigh joints of my 1/144 scale AT-ST plus one of the guns of my snowspeeder fall apart after weathering with thinned out black enamel paint. I had to stick them back together with CA. I had never seen that before, it caught me by surprise. Guess I'm going to have to learn to weather with acrylics for all my Bandai stuff.

    Great and helpful video. I really appreciate it. Just starting again after 30 years.
    One tip regarding 6:30 assembling the foot. Seeing Instructions 3.2 and 5.2 you are advised to follow steps 1 to 4. So first put on the upper part (Step 3) then attach the lower plate (Step 4).
    It will be much easier.

    I wish I could afford their big Millennium Falcon kit. The AT-ST is the only one I’ve done so far, and it was one of the best model building experiences I’ve ever had.

    Correction they used to be sold on the U.S.A market, and Bluefin started to implement to retailers along with the stronger push for Gunpla. Revell then decided to cry and moan to Disney over Licensing and distribution of Star Wars Model kits to be region based. They knew their kits sucked when compared to Bandai's kits. They didn't want to step up to the plate and either co exist or try new or innovative kits. So Revell is the the main distributor for their Star Wars kits on the U.S.A and European markets, and Bandai's Star Wars kits are left to their local market in Japan.
    Recently some Hobby Lobby shops, Barnes and Noble, and comic shops started carrying certain Star Wars kits. The downside is they are slightly overpriced when compared to their original Japanese MSRP. Even so they are worth the buy, because you get what you pay for. A good detailed display piece for any builders collection.

    Painting mine as a German what if . Marching down the Ardennes Forest. Was coming out great until I applied a Mig wash. The leg joints melted and both failed. Trying to repair it , but looks hopeless. I primed with Mr Hobby 1000 and clear coated , but I fear I did not wait long enough for it to cure. Waiting to see once the enamel cures if I can salvage it.

    I found hot solvents will cause the plastic to crack and any exposed plastic will be be affected.
    I found out the hard way on the Bandai C3-PO kit. Instead of stripping and repainting over the plate I just weathered on top.

  • @randygagliano4929
    @randygagliano4929 3 года назад

    I think the weathering would have been easier by putting some odorless thinner on the model first, followed by the streaking grime. hit it with a flat brush and done. love the way this one turned out

    9:43 Can you please tell us what product you used to primer(and maybe what you would have suggested for a different color) and also how you kept primer away from snap pegs and holes, either from the outside or the inside? I have a feeling that if I primer separate pieces other than when the model is put together, i will cause nothing to fit again unless I do some seriously tedious repair work. I know this is a year old but I just bought it and have learned a lot especially the tight fit on the feet. I have finished one leg and the middle section so far. Also at 21:22 you said you primered it alclad black and I am confused as to whether or not you primed it twice. Thank you for the video, liked and subscribed!

    Great video! When you say All Clad black primer, do you mean something like a Tremclad spray can, or is it some kind of airbrush primer? I've been using the Vallejo rattle can primers, but I'd love to find something more durable, but still has a pretty fine spray.

    You don’t glue anything on Bandai kits. They are perfectly molded so you don’t need glue. If you glue your just asking for trouble.

    Hi! In your video about painting an imperial knight (ruclips.net/video/dW4JynSynfQ/видео.html) you mentioned using future shine and also used a mixture to spray on the armor to weather it. Could you explain how you applied the future shine, what product should I use? I'm trying to replicate your result and tried a spray varnish and it ruined my first paint job :(
