- Bandai 1/72 Star Wars Tie Fighter | Full Build Video
In this full build video, I build the Bandai 1/72 Tie Fighter from Star Wars. This is my first Star Wars model I've ever built and I have to say, what a lovely kit it was. You can put this together without glue or paint but where's the fun in that?!

could of tried to put inside wireless leds for lazer and or booster and made the stand the base wireless led tranzmitter
@@fourmula4812 You're right, I could have but I don't want to overcomplicate my builds sometimes. :)
I see that your last uploaded video was around 1 year ago. I hope you still log into this Google/RUclips account, since later this year Google will start deleting all accounts and content of accounts that not been active for some time. It would be a shame if your paint and build guides would get lost.
@@Lord_Funk I put out a couple of shorts in December. So it should be good for a while.
Adding lights to cockpit would have been a bonus along with the engines. A solid piece of work you’ve done there.
I've never attempted that sort of thing before, so I didn't want to ruin a good model. Maybe one day I'll give it a go.
@@spruetherapy it is indeed a pretty awesome model you got there!
That turned out great! Very nicely done. The detail on Bandai kits is excellent and you've really brought it out with some stellar paint work and weathering.
Thanks Brett! 👍
This is what you call a GIFTED craftsman......just fantastic.
Thanks Mike, appreciate it!
@@spruetherapy What you do is something that cannot be learned, really; maybe to a lesser degree, perhaps. No, the way I see it is you either have the gift, or you don't. This is ARTISTRY....pure artistry.
Thank God you’re weathering got rid of that god-awful shine from all the semi gloss paint you used it went from looking like a toy to a movie from good job
The glossyfinish is required for the panel line wash to work correctly, so it flows into recesses. Thanks for watching! :)
FIGHTER.
Question about those washes, do you apply some sort of varnish before the wash? Because if both the wash and general paint is water soluble, I can't imagine a way to clean it without also removing the paint underneath :(
Yes, I use an acrylic wash before aplying the wash. As the wash is clay based, it wipes away with just a paper towel and some water. No paint underneath is removed. :)
I hope Bandai can make a Venator ship.
Very well done, the weathering and the hue of the blue/gray was perfect, very militaristic… nicest TIE fighter I’ve seen in a while
Thank you so much 😀
God damn I love Bandai they are the absolute gods that model building for the first time somebody made a tie fighter Star Wars kit that has a black insert for the wings no more masking and taping it’s already black and then has the gray pieces it going over all my God I love it thank you Bandai I only wish you would make Star Trek models car models jet plane models ship battleship along with all your sci-fi stuff
Would be funny if it's compatible with this kit which also produced by Bandai
Tie-Ball hybrid

Absolutely fantastic work there!
I wish I could do something like that 😢
Very jealous of your skills.
Shame you can't buy anything like that
Well....
... Doesn't that look amazing! :D
Thank you kind sir! :)
I must admit my friend built his without the glass for the windows - as Lucasfilm did to prevent glare or reflections hitting the windows and it looks amazing that way too.
Very nice build!Do you remember what grey color you used on the front window?
What the music at 10:26? Also real nice build
Thanks, it's called "Your Suggestion - Unicorn Heads". It's one of the free RUclips music tracks.
I’m a fan of the blue grey tie fighter as well! I will be using this painting method on my custom black series scale tie fighter i am building!
Awesome, I hope you enjoy your build!
I’ve always wanted to take two different scale tie fighter models and make a Sonic the Hedgehog mech out of them… one ball cockpit for the head and a smaller one for the body…( maybe Tails could pilot the body) and use the interceptor wings to make his spikes… also the old models had these big landing gear pieces that looked just like Sonics feet!
Just found your channel while researching tie fighter paint schemes. Really nice build and paint job! And on a totally random side note: I usually much prefer videos with talking rather than subtitles over a soundtrack - but I loved the chill vibe of this one. Anyway, you’ve got a new sub. Good work
Excellent job. Wish I was capable of painting that well. I'd buy one from you just based on the end results of your video.
Very nice video. If you like building this Bandai Kit, i can recommed the AT-ST Walker. Easy to build and looks great. Would be nice to see you painting this.
I have two AT-ST kits in my stash and I'll be doing a build video of one of them. Thanks for watching!
Really nice. Hate the new Disney stuff but love the original era ships and you've done an amazing job 😊
Thanks man, yeah not a fan of any of the new stuff either.
Same here. The TIE/rp and TIE/sk x1 looks plain ugly and feels wrong.
I wish Bandai would do larger scale models.
Although the gray is a little dark me personally I like my models to look more like the Movie props so this would have to be about 20% lighter shade of gray
And that's the beauty of it, we can build our models to a standard that makes us happy, and I'm really happy how it came out. Thanks for watching!
you were not kidding when you wrote "old games workshop paints". How is that boltgun metal not dry? it has to be over 15 years old!
Haha yeah, I think it might be even older than that!
congratulations!!!!, really a very interesting chanel, i suscribe you, thaks for share, best wishes from Peru!!!!
Thanks very much!
The range of colours between the movies was confusing...until I realised the shots in Episode IV A New Hope were oversaturated and appeared much brighter than the studio models. In fact, the TIE fighter movie models are dull grey-blue (as you painted this kit), and we see more accurate movie images in Episode V and VI.
You also have to take the colour film stock into consideration, which changed the hue somewhat. Cheers!
Is it just me or is the pic on the box upside down? Or am I just becoming brain-dead
I had to check, but no it's the right way up. 😂
@@spruetherapy guess I’m brain dead then lol
@@hamishsheinkels1478 That makes two of us! :D
Absolutely loved this video. Your attention to detail is incredible. You even decal the pilot and cockpit inside. I LOVE BanDai models. They fit together soo well. I only buy models that don't need, painting, weathering or glueing. I don't have much room to display models, so I'm very picky. Usually just figures, but I do have the BanDai 1/144 scale AT-AT.
Thanks, Bandai did all the hard work making such an excellent kit though. Cheers! Dan
One of the best paint jobs I’ve seen! I love the pre and post shading and colour choices.
Thanks Scott!
Best build I've seen of a TF so far...beautiful...attention to detail is so impressive...awesome job......subbed!
Thank you! 😊
Hope bandi improved their Star Wars molds and plastics. Because when they first started doing these Star Wars kits. The plastic was garbage and nothing lined up right, especially the designs of the two pieces meeting on the seems. That was really annoying.
I found some plastic breaks when you use enamel washes etc, so always use an acrylic varnish first. Thanks!
That's a beautiful Eyeball.
Haha thanks!
Wish I could find this kit in stock anywhere, and the Interceptor. Sadly can only find it 2nd hand and horribly overpriced.
I had that with the Y Wing and now those are easily available at a much lower price than I paid from importing. Ah well :(
Oh nice!.. Darth Vader would love you for it! 👍🇳🇿
Haha thanks!
eh hem, "Strikes Back" is the correct term for the movie, episodes are for the small minded!
Actually isn't it just called Empire?
Very cool Modell. But the stand looks like the cheapest plastic ever. Not the best colour. Black would be better.
Thanks, I didn't paint the stand yet. As I have a few Star Wars kits and they all have the same/similar stands, I'll paint them all at the same time.
Awesome video, looks great !!! I have the Bandai Millennium Falcon and the X-Wing …both make me look like I actually know what I’m doing 😂. Bandai is truly a great way to get into this wonderful hobby. ✝️🇺🇸🤙🏻🅰️
This is the first time I've viewed your channel. You have a nice production, and I enjoyed the way you include your rather human lapses and minor mistakes. I enjoyed the build, and the end result.
I also like that you use a variety of paints on this project, which is most likely what the majority of the modeling world has on their shelves. Thank you for showing me that I do not need to mess with the interior decals. Perhaps I'll consider a little highlighting with a lighter version of the exterior color. Thanks for getting me to consider what I'll do with mine!
Hi Steven, thanks for the kind words. I like to show mistakes I make so that others might avoid them. Best of luck with your Tie Fighter, I'd love to see what you do with it. All the best, Dan.
What type of plastic is it made off? #2HDPE or #5PP, or something else?
I've no idea, sorry.
Come to the dark side. We have cookies
Hello. Very nice build and video. Thank you very much for it. I especially like that bluish aspect you gave to the TIE. Please (I'm new to airbrushing), why do you work with very low air pressure? Is it more comfortable to spray with lower air pressure? Thank you
Hi, thanks for your comment. Low airpressure is good when working with thinned paint. As a higher air pressure will cause spidering (the paint to splatter on the model). The air pressure is very much dependant on the paint thinning ratio and how close to the model you are working as well.
@@spruetherapy Thank you very much for this great tip. Have a great day :)
Seeing the thumbnail: Build? How do you build inside of an 3d program...
Starting the video: Hol up!
You absolute beast 😁
Haha, I actually make 3D models too with Blender. I'm working on an X-Wing at the moment!
@@spruetherapy that's cool!
I've been putting off learning 3d, really need to focus my chi and throw myself at it, would love to see your workflow in 3d too :).

Very nice video, with a lot of good explanations (Many thanks for that). Excellent result in the end !
Thanks Eric 👍
How many cotton buds did you go through to get that panel wash off?
One or two....:D
n,ce, well done 👍
Thank you. 😊
Do take commission work for this tie fighter?

just ... wowwwwwwww
Great job, I wanted this and the slave 1 model.
Thanks James, I'd love the Slave 1 model too!
More of Star Wars bandai kits please
I have about 6 others to do, they'll come in time! Thanks!
Where's the back seat!??? Lmao! Great job!
Haha, damn that movie remaking the classic design!
Just subscribed. Awesome job on this TIE Fighter. Sienar Fleet Systems churned out thousands of these amazingly agile but fragile buckets with wings. Really nice build and now I wish I'd gone for the Bandai version of this iconic pesky varmint.
Much appreciated!
In love!
bravo
woah
Awesome build 👍👍👍
Thanks!
This is awesome: visually no difference from the movie prop.
Very kind thank you!
@SuperStraight WhiteStudies I literally just posted on my Insta why there's been no new vids :D. I have another channel called EnglishBikerDan, that takes up 99% of my time at the moment but once the biking season is over, there will be the full Hellcat build and painting vid! :D
Sure, I don't understand people spend a lot of money in ugly painted "Master Replicas" (in that case I prefer Hasbro VC model) if you can get models less expensive like this one (or AMT, Revell, etc.) and to get beautiful results.
Great techniques that I will definitely incorporate into my very limited skill set to make my Darth Vader MPC kit from the 80's!! Thanks for the excellent video sprue!!!
I'm really happy you enjoyed the video, thank you!
Its not a big model. But it IS a beautiful model! Well done, Sprue! That was very therapeutic. 🙂
Many thanks!
Great job! And I'm building a Millennium Falcon in 1/350 scale. Fantastic detail.
Very cool!
Superbe travail de peinture. Une très belle maquette que je dois aussi monter... Félicitations..
~~
Superb paint job. A very nice model that I also have to build... Congratulations...
Merci beaucoup!
Beautiful.. this is in my stash. Thanks for the inspiration!!
Not sure if a Tie fighter could fly in a normal atmosphere......its vertical wings wouldnt create any lift.
They do in some of the movies. I'm guessing the technology is so advanced they use some kind of repulsor or anti gravity devices.
You did this really well
Thank you! 😊
Great stuff! Why the gloss coat mid-way through the paint job, if you're gonna just cover it with matt later? I understand the need to "lock down" what you've done so far, but why gloss?
It's been a while so I'll have to watch it again but I prefer putting oils over gloss instead of matte varnish.
Those old GW paints are indestructible.
Were so displeased when they changed the formula.
This build is very nice, good job.
Yeah, not a fan of the new paints at all! Thank you! Dan
I just keep returning to this as I am working on a Tie fighter collection atm, its invaluable....have to ask, what did you use for the background in the final reveal?
Thank you! That's my lightbox which I bought from Amazon. Really handy bit of kit and I paid about £65 I think. Best of luck with your build.
nice work buddy come out choice!.
Just one thing though do you have to weight for the panel lines to dry be for you clean them up?
I'm sorry if I sound dumb I'm new to modelling.
Hi Jason, there are no silly questions here so thanks for asking. Yes, for this particular wash I tend to wait around 20 mins and then wipe it off with kitchen towl and some cotton buds. Hope that helps! Dan
Great tutorial!!! thanks for sharing!
Nicely done - out of interest did you have to thin the Ammo Mig Lucky Matt varnish? Really enjoyable video especially the part about the tiny decals hahaha
Thanks! No the Lucky varnish doesn't need to thinning. Result 👍
Fantastic work.
Thanks!
Looks cool. 👍
Thanks 👍
If you had shown the end viewing at the beginning, I would have thought it was at least, 1/48 or larger scale.. It Really is that Good. You are a wash Meister!
You are too kind! 😊
Great work. Very nice video. Greetings Aleš 😎👍
Thanks, appreciate it. 👍
Very nice. Great work
Thank you!
Thanks for the video.
Just about to assemble and paint mine today. I’ve not built anything for a few years so I needed the extra help, and believe me this has helped.
Glad I could help. Good luck with your Tie Fighter.
Woah, that is some super-crispy masking. Lovely work.
Thanks Greg!
Amazing work. Enjoyed your video very much, the attention to detail, and also learned a lot. You won a new subscriber. I'm looking forward to seeing the new Star Wars ships and models.
Thanks Felipe, my next model is the X-Wing or AT-ST. Not sure which yet.

Fantastic job 👏👏👏👏
Hello✨ Great work👍
Just found this … congrats … awesome work ;-)
Thanks a lot!
For the decals do you think itd be possible to have painted them on? Cause theres no way i'd be able to get those decals on if i got the kit XD
I think that might be harder tbh.
@@spruetherapy I think I might try anyway just to see.
Yeah I've had a go with this method a couple of days ago. What I've found is that for oil/enamel based washes you can run the wash into recessses easily and it flows very nicely. But for clay/water based washes, due to the surface tension I found I had to really flood the surface for it to run into the recesses. @@darkblades1201
@@spruetherapy good to know!
Nice final color.
Thank you 😊
Wicked Tie Fighter!!!
Very nice model and a very satisfying video. It made me want to order one in Amazon and dust my old Badger airbrush! Just IMO the display "boom" would look better painted black. Cheers!
Thanks, yeah I didn't get around to painting the stand just yet.
@@spruetherapy I specially loved the overallpaint scheme
Very well done, you wasted a ton of time in the beginning but that end result is Beautiful!
Haha, let's be honest, we're painting miniature versions of sci-fi things that don't exist. There's no such thing as wasted time. :D Thanks for watching!
Great job. Beautiful build and great video. Thank you.
Thank you for the kind words and for watching. Dan
Thx this really gave me motivation to paint my own Tie Fighter!
Thanks, I'm glad this gave you some motivation! Cheers.
Beautiful work, dude, you've just earned yourself a new subscriber :-) Quick question: why did you spray it with gloss clear when you were going to add a matt finish anyway?
Thank you! The gloss coat is to help with the panel line wash. A gloss coat has less surface imperfections so that the wash can easily flow into recesses without staining the surface. You can also easily wipe off the wash from raised areas where you don't want it with the gloss finish. If you did that on a matte coat it would stain the model and would be very tricky to clean up. I hope that's helped. Any other questions, fire away. Many thanks for the sub! Dan
@@spruetherapy makes perfect sense. Thank you!
Kick ass painting where it will never be seen!,new subscriber 😁👌
