This was fun to watch. I was an au pair in Paris 55 years ago and lived on rue Lacepede. Place de la Contrascarpe was where I did much of the family shopping. It looked different, with fewer cafes and more shops, including boulangeries, a charcuterie, a green grocer and a butcher. Did you know that the corner where rue Mouffetard leads away from the Place de la Contrascarpe appears in some scenes at the end of the 1965 film The Great Race?
I've been to Paris over 4 dozen times and he's absolutely right! La rue Mouffetard is an old Roman road and is the real Paris beginning at la Place de la Contrescarpe, a terrific gathering place at night with street musicians, to a calm place for quiet contemplation early in the morning, to a lively market with small shops during the day.
Stayed in the 5th last year near the Mosque & Jardin des Plantes. Did many strolls up Rue Mouffetard & drinks at various bars in the Square-fabulous area.☺️
Just like Rue Rambuteau by Les Halles (where my friend Arnaud had his apart) I'm glad that other streets, like Rue Mouffetard, were spared during the Re-Construction. These little Tresores are what makes Paris......

I have been working in 1 minute walking distance from rue Mouffetard for a year now! Very underrated
