my biggest gripe and where many people claim the cheap deaths come from is how inconsistent the game is about hyper armor. you can fight a foe, do the same combo twice, and the first time you'll disrupt them mid attack and the second time you get knocked on your ass. I've tried determining if it has something to do with your armor, ki, or hp levels but the problem persists no matter how i test things. If this game is inspired by Dark Souls, then it needs to learn that the game excelled because it was consistently, brutally fair about the rules that game operated on.
I also felt like the stats could've been condensed: Dexterity and Skill should've been one stat, and Spirit and Magic should've been one stat. I could also argue strength and stamina should've been one skill as well.

as a foot note, i feel that the game wanks over single katanas: most of the unique armor sets are paired with single swords, and not wearing a matched set is stupidly subotimal to the point of you nearly being better off wearing no armor at all

the in game description of toughness describes it as affecting your blocking ability. im going to have to test this. I tested all these attacks when at a full ki bar, making a single attack, or making a single attack and adding a followup combo ender like piercing rain. I will return to Nioh and test again. and by knocked on your ass I meant disrupted, but in more inflammatory language.

I think the ability to "poise" through attacks is determined by the agility stat which is determined by equip load and I'm guessing the humanoid enemies follow the same rules. I noticed if I had A agility, I would be staggered by everything. Whereas if I had C agility, I would get staggered at times but not whilst dodging or attacking. In regards to Yokai, I assumed they couldn't be disrupted unless they were out of Ki or you hit a weak point.

***** Sorry about that lol my eyes tend to auto skip long comments when viewing things on my phone. What type of armour has the most toughness?

I know that I'm probably the n thousandth guy telling you this, but it's pronounced On-Myo, not Om-Nyo.
The first one basically means the path of Yin and Yang. The second one is the sound of a catgirl trying to meditate.

Ruri, @29:00 ish, you mention the loss of skill points after respeccing. I was doing this myself and noticed that the number of points is determined by your stats as well. For example more points into Strength, Heart etc all give you samurai points. If you respecced to different stat ratios, you might end up with a few less, but the difference should be relatively marginal because you are still at the same level. The exception being that points put into magic or dexterity give you Ninjutsu or Omnyo Magic points instead.

I am FINALLY getting through my backlog of vids XD but ya, I love Nioh, I think I could have almost 1 shot every fight, but I did every side quest and such when I could so I did likely get over leveled to fights which can help, but I kept trying to go for "Crusher" titles (boss fights taking no damage) and that's what's REALLY got me killed over and over again more than anything.
I think my only issue with the game is that I hate that enemies/bosses at times don't work on the same combat like stamina usage and whatnot. But I got over that and still enjoyed it.
I'm not sure I like the weapon/armor forging. It's nothing bad, but I also am not sure on the loot system as a whole. In a game like this I feel it only frustrates me a bit more than I enjoy. I'd rather it be more DkS where the stats are set and the placements are set (or even the drops are random from a mob, but still the same enemies every time) and collecting them.
But, overall, it's still a great game :D

13:35 Yeah, Something may have been wrong with your TV.
Kingo wore a pink. I found him as the comic relief character of the game lol. The badass dude in red (His nickname was the Red Demon) he was sick.
Edit: It seems they knew a lot of non japanese speaking players who wouldn't be able to say or even understand the names. B/c they always told you there nicknames or titles after they introduced them (I still forgot most of them & I'm still playing though lol)
    Anyways great review!

I've been playing on a regular ps4 and I've found that the most framedrops i've found have specifically the wheelmonks rolling around int he background. they always ended up dropping it whenever they were not in the foreground.

The frame rate is excellent I don't care if there's frame rate dips if I'm having fun I shouldn't care how the game was performing. If you can't play the game at 30fps you must be very bad at video games I can play at 60fps to but I refuse to lower the resolution from 1080p to 720P for 60fps that's my opinion.

i don't think you lose skill points by respecing. you get skill points by leveling the corresponding stat. So if you had say 15 in Omnyo Magic and respec to 6 in Magic, you wont have those skill points anymore. if that makes sense lol

And also you dont get the skill points back that you gained from ninja locks and samurai locks etc

I thought the beta was a bit tough , and I’m glad it is its own thing , I feel too many game are tryin to mimic the souls games , even though they are awesome , I feel games should try to differentiate and not just copy and cash in on someone else formula

Talk about Necro here lol. As you I played a ton of monster hunter world but I just do enjoy games like diablo and dark souls. I did NOT know about this, noticed the complete edition was up for sale so, what the heck And I really love the game. I think the most interesting part is the spec into various weapons and the builds you can do. However, watching some videos I must say true end game seems like a grind fiesta, but are they not all. But there seems to be some broken builds out there. Personally I started with max strengh, body and stamina, respecd and went most into spirit and magic, and kept stamina, body and strenght at medium level (axe user). And ooook...The game went from hard to mediocre. The rejuvination talismans, weakness talismans, steel, protection and above all...Sloth. Im not sure I agree on the implementation of sloth. Me for example that runs steel and protection with weakness AND sloth. And carnage for when I feel like it. Bosses tend to be, rather easy. The defences had been enough. Of course your limted to just a few but its only some big Yokai that can be a challenge and..."Sloth on you"...Overall fantastic fun game, frustrating at start. I have to say the hardest part of the game by far is the first few hours where you have hardly any gear but above all, no magic to speak of. But the fun factor lies in trying various weapons and builds and there are some insane end game material in Nioah, you need to be far far from where I am. I play in Movie mode though on my 4k tv and ps4 pro and maybe I should give the 60 frames a go but I feel the 30 is very fluid and it never drops below, more feels like it hoovers a little above. Now is a good time to pick up Nioah due to the Complete edition, including all dlcs etc, for a fair price. And as a souls fan (I only liked dark souls 1, I hardly tried the others but DS3 seems ok, and of course I played Blood Borne), I have to say this is a must buy.

After watching the Nioh review by Previously Recorded and comparing it to yours, it's clear you know more of the nuances that separate this game from a Soulsborne game. The movesets for each weapon, ki pulse weapon switch attacks and special attacks are more satisfying to me than a typical combo you can do with a weapon in a souls game. Great review and gave you a like. I made a Way of the Samurai video filled with highlights if you're interested.
